10-Page Preview! Aliens have conquered the world in search of the mysterious SF-92, a fuel source without equal. Their plot has hit a snag, however, in the form of a handful of rednecks– well-armed, drunk rednecks. The invaders may have met their match in Clay County.
Let me start this review by saying that this one is just a preview for the entire comic book. And I read it because I wanted to see if the full comic book was worth the money and time I would spend on it. And I’m gonna give you the answer for that at the end of this review.
The concept of this preview revolves around an unusual mix of action and comedy. The premise of it had a lot of potential but the way it was presented to us really lacked clarity and cohesion. And I wasn’t a fan of this because the whole execution of the concept in this preview felt very shallow and like there wasn’t a coherent storyline in this preview.
The narrative of this preview felt very scattered because it had a very inconsistent tone that makes it difficult for me personally to engage fully with the story which this preview tired to give us.
The characters we are introduced to in this preview, have their own quirky personalities which I liked a lot. But at the same time their quirky personalities feel like they lack depth and development.
All of the characters in this preview show a good potential for humor and intrigue. But this potential wasn’t used because all of the characters didn’t have any clear motives and their backstories are not sufficiently explored. Which really made me not fully care about their journeys.
The artwork in this preview provides us with a lively and energetic feel, fitting the comedic tone of the story. But as much as the artwork is appealing, it does have a few issues. The artwork feels cluttered at times, which really didn’t help me with getting interested in the storyline because it was very distracting from the storytelling.
The themes which this preview gives us a bland between adventure and humor. Which could have been very good it those themes were used properly. For the most part the themes feel very unexplored and underdeveloped. And the lack of narrative doesn’t help the themes of this preview to shine through the poor writing of this preview.
So will I buy and read the full version of this comic book ? I don’t think I will. The main reason behind this is how poorly this preview was very uninteresting for me personally.
I Give This Book 2 / 5
