“Captain Pixel: Preview” By Shawn DePasquale & Maciej Prozalski Review

10-Page Preview! A new virus has been introduced and it is now up to Captain Pixel, a polar bear and the mysterious wizard, Adobus, to stop this rapidly growing plague.

Let me start this review by saying that this one is just a preview for the entire comic book. And I read it because I wanted to see if the full comic book was worth the money and time I would spend on it. And im gonna give you the answer for that at the end of this review.

The whole concept of this preview revolves around a digital world brimming with possibilities. I personally found the concept to be very intriguing and interesting. But the narrative of this whole preview was very lacking of clarity and cohesion. Which made it difficult for me to follow the storyline and be interested in it.

The plot in this preview felt very rushed with a lot of key elements undeveloped and unexplored. The plot has a very uneven pacing, because at times it goes very fast making the whole plot undeveloped and unexplored and on other times the pacing was going on and on forever without an end.

The main character in this comic book had a potential to be a very good main character but in reality he lacks depth and any form of personality. His motivates are very unexplored and absolutely no backstory. Which really made it impossible for me to like him or care about his journey throughout this preview or the full version of this comic book.

The side characters in this preview and very similarly underdeveloped and unexplored with absolutely no personalities of their own or backstory. At the same time the side characters aren’t adding anything to the narrative or to the whole story in general.

The artwork in this preview is the best part of this preview in my opinion because it is vibrant and colorful which I really liked. But there are times where the artwork feels very chaotic which really distracts the reader from the main story of this preview.

This preview tries to give us the themes of adventure and technology which had a lot of potential. But in reality the themes of this preview are very unexplored because of the very weak and poor narrative of this preview which doesn’t present the themes of this preview in a good way.

So will I buy and read the full version of this comic book ? I don’t think I will. The main reason behind this is how poorly this preview was very uninteresting for me personally.

I Give This Book 2 / 5
