Maya Killgore is twenty-three and still in the process of figuring out her life. Conor Harkness is thirty-eight, and Maya cannot stop thinking about him. It’s such a cliché, it almost makes her heart implode: older man and younger woman; successful biotech guy and struggling grad student; brother’s best friend and the girl he never even knew existed. As Conor loves to remind her, the power dynamic is too imbalanced. Any relationship between them would be problematic in too many ways to count, and Maya should just get over him. After all, he has made it clear that he wants her gone from his life.
I need to admit here that I was pretty skeptical about this book before getting into it. Because I’ve read one book by the author before reading this one which was “Cruel Winter with You” which was okay but not the best. So I thought that this book would also be a pretty average read, when in reality it was easily in my top 10 best books I’ve read this year. If you want me to make a list of the 10 best books and 10 worst books I’ve read this year at the end of 2025, let me know in the comments.
The plot of this book was very incredible. Because from the first page of this book I was complete sucked into the plot of it and I had the hardest time ever putting this book down. And when I wasn’t reading it, I was constantly thinking about it and thinking about what would happen next.
The plot in this book was very sweet and cute. The main plot of this book is the main character named Maya, going to Italy for her older brother’s wedding where she meets again her brother’s best friend which she had a crush on for years even thou he is 15 years older than her. So we get a lot of the age-gap romance situation in this book which was pretty cheesy but at the same time also very sweet and cute in my opinion at least.
The characters in this book book are just as incredible as the plot. The characters in this book have a lot of depth and personalities to them which make them feel like real human beings.
Each of the characters in this book have their own personalities to them and something which makes them unique or standout from the rest of the characters we get in this book.
We get a handful of characters in this book, I personally had a pretty hard time figuring out who is who amongst the characters in the beginning of the book but the deeper I got into this book the easier and easier it was to tell the characters apart in this book and actually find them to be likable and relatable. Which made me like this book even more because of how much I loved the characters in this book.
The writing style in this book was very good. Because it was like the author knew exactly what words to use to completely grab my attention and not let it go until the very end of this book.
As you might think, this book has a lot of drama going on. The drama that takes place takes us on a roller coaster of emotions which shows how good of a job the author did writing this book.
Even thou this book is over 400 pages long, I read it in 2 or 3 days because of how sucked I got into the plot of this book. And because how interesting and enjoyable I found this book to be.
I Give This Book 5 / 5
