“The Cats of Ulthar” By HP Lovecraft Review

This short story is about how the town of Ulthar made the decision to forbid anyone from killing cats.

For the most part this one is fun little short story which most people will enjoy.

The plot is fine here, but the whole potential wasn’t used here. And the plot gives a couple of question-marks because the narrator talks about that in the time before the law became a thing, there have been an accident or an event where the an old cotter and his wife who trapped and killed their neighbors’ cats.

The writing style here was pretty okay, it wasn’t the best but after reading a couple of short stories I can tell that the writing style could be much better than it actually was.

This short story supposes to be a horror story but to be honest it feels more like a twisted and dark fairytale than a horror story. It can be just me, but if you have read this short story let me know what was your thoughts about it.

I give this short story 1 / 5

“Nyarlathotep” By HP Lovecraft Review

This poem is about  a bleak view of human civilization in decline. And the whole poem explores the mixed sensations of desperation and defiance in a dying society.

Well I don’t know how to write this review because I like this poem but also at the same time didn’t. And I don’t know what happening to me on this one, because whenever I finish reading something I just know if I liked it or not.

The writing style in this one was amazing, it was probably the best part about this poem. It felt like HP Lovecraft was in my head and just knew what words to use to get me involved in the story of this poem.

However the plot itself wasn’t so good. I don’t know but the plot didn’t go so well with me on this one. Of course it was good but I felt like it could be much better.

It is important to mention that this poem for whatever reason gave me a Edgar Allan Poe vibe while reading it.

I give this short story 1 / 5

“The Picture in the House” By HP Lovecraft Review

This short story is about A young man takes shelter from a storm in an old house inhabited by a strange old man.

So this is the second short story by HP Lovecraft which gave me Edgar Allan Poe vibes for whatever reason. But I really don’t mind that.

The writing style here was pretty decent, but as someone who have read a few short stories by HP Lovecraft I know that he was able to do better than this.

The plot in this one was really Lovecraftian as you might know. But still for whatever reason it didn’t go well with me.

It was very short so I didn’t need to suffer throughout reading this one, which is really good.

The ending in this one, was one of the worst ending I’ve read so far. Which really speaks for itself doesn’t it?

I feel like the whole premise of this story wasn’t really fulfilled which really annoys me.

I give this short story 1 / 5

“The Balloon Hoax” By Edgar Allan Poe Review

It is about detailed European Monck Mason’s trip across the Atlantic Ocean in only three days in a gas balloon. It was later revealed as a hoax and the story was retracted two days later.

So another short story from Edgar Allan Poe which didn’t go well with me. I had hard time connecting with the story which again leads to a low rating from me.

I also need to mention that this story was boring and it wasn’t a lots of action in it.

The writing style was bad, probably one of the worst I’ve seen Edgar Allan Poe do in his short stories and poems.

After reading this short story I began to think that Edgar Allan Poe had a fascination with hot air balloons.  Because it was too much talk about them in this story.

One of the things which annoyed me the most with this story is that it ended where it was supposed to be picking up.

And I can’t stop thinking that if Edgar Allan Poe wrote at some point a Buzzfeed article it would be as lame and boring as this story.

I give this story 1 / 5

“Instinct vs Reason – A Black Cat” By Edgar Allan Poe Review

The line which demarcates the instinct of the brute creation from the boasted reason of man, is, beyond doubt, of the most shadowy and unsatisfactory character — a boundary line far more difficult to settle than even the North-Eastern or the Oregon

Oh boy where do I start this review?

I appraicfte reading this short story but nothing more than that. I didn’t like it as much as I’ve suspected I would.

It’s well written so it need to get point for doing that.

The plot in this however could be better because it didn’t go well with me. I don’t know why.

Ive read all of the poems and short stories which Edgar Allan Poe and this one feels like Edgar Allan Poe but there is something missing but I can’t name what.

I give this book 1 / 5

“Morning On The Wissahiccon” By Edgar Allan Poe Review

This one is describing the natural beauty of Wissahickon Creek, which flows into the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia.

Will I was reading I had the feeling that this one is sort of a commentary on the effects of man vs wild nature. Which I didn’t like.

The writing style here was pretty okay but nothing better than this one. As someone who have read every short story and poem by Edgar Allan Poe I know that Edgar Allan  Poe was able to do better than this one.

The plot here was pretty good but the whole potential wasn’t used. All I’m saying is that it could be better.

For me there also been something missing in this short story.

I give this book 1 / 5

“Byron and Miss Chaworth” By Edgar Allan Poe Review

This one is far from the best stories from Edgar Allan Poe.

However i appreciate the insightful piece on Edgar Allan Poe’s view of Lord Byron’s first love which was awesome.

The writing style was pretty okay but Edgar Allan Poe was able to do much better work than he did in this one.

The plot was for the most part okay but it could much better. The potential to the plot wasn’t fully used as it could be.

I give this book 1 / 5

“The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket and Related Tales” By Edgar Allan Poe Review.

The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket is a pivotal work in which Poe calls attention to the act of writing and to the problem of representing the truth. It is an archetypal American story of escape from domesticity tracing a young man’s rite of passage through a series of terrible brushes with death during a fateful sea voyage. Included are eight related tales which further illuminate Pym by their treatment of persistent themes–fantastic voyages, gigantic whirlpools, and premature burials–as well as its relationship to Poe’s art and life.

It is important to mention that this novel is the only novel written by Edgar Allan Poe.

This novel was sort of an odd, enjoyable and weird read. It was interesting read but it felt like it was missing something.

This story sort of sets the mood that it sort of was written by two different authors. Because the whole story is Edgar Allan Poe ghostwriting the first two parts novel and the rest is written by the so-called “Pym” himself.

This whole novel was split into a preface and 25 chapters. Which I wasn’t a fan of.

I really had trouble with connecting with the story in this novel so that’s why I can’t really tell you what I think about it.

This novel as I said above was enjoyable but very far from interesting or okay.

I give this novel 1 / 5

“A Tale of the Ragged Mountains” By Edgar Allan Poe Review

This tale begins with an identified narrator whose story is the loose outer frame for the central tale of Augustus Bedloe, a wealthy young invalid whom the narrator has known “casually” for eighteen years yet who still remains an enigma.

First thing first and that’s why I need to say that I’m giving short story extra points for being mysterious and overall an original story.

The writing style here again was not good enough for Edgar Allan Poe. Edgar Allan Poe was fully able to write better than he did in this one.

The plot was kind of okay, but the potential of this story wasn’t fully used. Of course it was interesting enough to read it. But I wouldn’t reread it.

The old English really comes to place in this one. And I needed to pull up my dictionary a lots.

And to be honest here I was confused while reading it and after I’ve read it I was still confused.

Overall its a little weird short story.

I give this poem 1 / 5

“X-ing a Paragraph” By Edgar Allan Poe Review.

The ‘wise men’ came ‘from the East,’ and as Mr. Touch-and-go Bullet-head came from the East, it follows that Mr. Bullet-head was a wise man; and if collateral proof of the matter be needed, here we have it—Mr.

Overall this was a little funny story, which has the misused potential to be much better. However this wasn’t so funny for me as many other people on the internet claim it was.

I personally feel like every time Edgar Allan Poe tries to be funny in a story or poem I every time hate it no matter what.

For the most part this one was a very tongue-in-cheek story.

To be honest here this short story felt like reading a drama on the internet when a person who have issues with someone else on the internet begins to talk vaguely about it.

The writing style here didn’t even seem like it can from Edgar Allan Poe. Which wasn’t great.

I give this novel 1 / 5
