“The City in the Sea” By Edgar Allan Poe Review

The poem takes the reader through Death’s city. He rules this place from a throne and towers over it “gigantically”. The city is lit by nothing but the light from the sea.

So another pretty good poem from no other than Edgar Allan Poe.

The writing style is amazing as you can from Edgar Allan Poe.

In this poem Edgar Allan Poe gives an elaborately grim picture by only using his words and writing style which is depicting a sinister atmospheric.

This poem needs to get points for being vivid and full of life and meaning.

This poem is one of very few poems which you can re-read dozen times without being bored of it.

This poem isn’t scary but it sort of gives you a chill.

This poem much be one of Edgar Allan Poe’s much  dark and gloomy gothic poems.

I give this poem 3 / 5

“Thou Art the Man” By Edgar Allan Poe Review

The plot involves a man wrongfully accused of murdering his uncle Barnabas Shuttleworthy, whose corpse is missing. An unnamed narrator finds the body, suspects the victim’s good friend Charles Goodfellow, and sets up an elaborate plot to expose him.

So another enjoyable, fun and very quick short story from Edgar Allan Poe.

The writing style is pretty decent, but Edgar Allan Poe was able to do much better than this one.

This story is an amazing to read even you looking for something to pass time with.

To be fully honest with you I need to say that this story is probably the most predictable story from Edgar Allan Poe.

This story is sort of a detective story with huge gothic vibe. But i need to say it isn’t about solving a mystery. It’s more about exposing a murderer and clearing an innocent man from not being the murder.

I give this poem 3 / 5

“A dream” By Edgar Allan Poe Review

This one describes a speaker waking and dreaming state and the brief moments of light and hope he experiences. The speaker begins this piece by introducing a dark dream that he was subject to. This dream, and the emotions he experienced during it, are not unfamiliar to him.

This one is another pretty okay poem from Edgar Allan Poe.

This one I need to say is one of Edgar Allan Poe’s poems that sort of hit you hard with its lines. Of course there are few of these lines in this poem. But they count.

If you are a long time fan of Edgar Allan Poe and you have read several of his poems and short stories Im pretty sure that you will like and enjoy this poem.

This one is 100% worth reading. But in my humble opinion this one sort of have failed to pack the punch of some of Edgar Allan Poe’s other short stories and poems.

This one is sort of a basic poem, which you will either give it 5 stars or below 3 stars.

I give this poem 3 / 5

“Stanzas” By Edgar Allan Poe Review

This poem speaks about nature, especially the sky, the sun, and it also speaks of God

Need to say that this one was pretty hard to understand at once. That’s why I needed to read this at least 3 times to finally understand that.

This poem is somewhat very cryptic and pretty random when you look who have written it.

The writing style was pretty amazing this one. And pretty much the best part about this poem was the writing style.

I give this poem 3 / 5

“Lines on Joe Locke” By Edgar Allan Poe Review

“Lines on Joe Locke” was a short, two stanza poem written to make fun of a commanding officer during Edgar Allan Poe’s time at West Point. Lieutenant Locke was either generally not well-liked, or Edgar Allan Poe had a more personal vendetta with him.

For the most part this short story is pretty decent, it okay and nothing more than that. There were stories and poems from Edgar Allan Poe which were better and there were stories and poems from Edgar Allan Poe which were worse.

The writing style is pretty much on level with Edgar Allan Poe, which for these of you which don’t know what I mean then just know that the writing style is amazing. But when you compare it with some other short stories or poems from Edgar Allan Poe you will see that he was able to do a better job.

However this one didn’t fully make sense to me, and I needed to read it multiple times to even understand it.

But I appreciate that this short story was sort of written to mock the commanding officer during Edgar Allan Poe’s time at West Point. So you can fully expect some fun verses and lines in this one which will make you giggle and laugh.

I give this poem 3 / 5

“TO ISAAC LEA” By Edgar Allan Poe Review

This one has only four lines. It seems to come from a letter Edgar Allan Poe wrote to Isaac Lea.

This one was another very short poem from Edgar Allan Poe.

The writing style was pretty decent but Edgar Allan Poe was capable of a better job.

This poem was surprisingly wise and intelligent in its few lines that it has.

The theme of this poem as I said above was pretty amazing and wise put together into one poem.

I give this poem 3 / 5

“A Sound of Thunder” by Ray Bradbury Review

A hunter named Eckels pays $10,000 to join a hunting party that will travel back 66 million years to the Late Cretaceous period, on a guided safari to kill a Tyrannosaurus rex.

This story is one of the well known classics about why you shouldn’t play around with time travel and all that. It’s one of the best time travel stories out there.

This story is very well written, the writing style makes you almost feel like you are a part of the story which is in the end the highest level of brilliant writing style in books.

The whole plot of this story is brilliant. The idea of using a time machine to hunt dinosaurs which will die very soon to avoid changes in time is very brilliant. But of course there are some things which goes down hill on one of the “adventures” and it really shows how actually easy it is to change the future.

This book was written back in 1952, so it means that there are some parts which you may find cringe or cliché. But everything is cringe or cliché. after 80 ish years isn’t it?

This book is one of the best Science Fiction stories out there because it involves all the best parts which a Science Fiction story should have. And these parts are Time travel, Dinosaurs and Democracy / Dictatorship.

This story involves Butterfly Effect, Chaos Theory, time paradoxes or whatever you want to call it. I think that every science person will appreciate it because it really makes you think about time travel and how small pieces which gets changed can effect the bigger picture we have today.

However the ending could have been better than it was. More descriptions would have helped the ending but of course we didn’t have that much descriptions as we should have.

This book needs to get points for being short and a quick read. Which we all love to read every once in a while.

Possibly the most anthologise science fiction story of all time, but this is up for the debate.  its interest lies in its early exposure of the public of time travel paradox and the butterfly effect which makes this story even more interesting.

I give this story 4 / 5

“William Wilson” By Edgar Allan Poe Review

The story follows a man of “a noble descent” who calls himself William Wilson because, although denouncing his profligate past, he does not accept full blame for his actions, saying that “man was never thus … tempted before”.

The ending of this story was just brilliant. And i’m sure that a lots of you will enjoy it for sure just as much as I did.

The whole plot of this story is also pretty amazing, but less amazing than the ending itself.

By reading this one you will also get some good insight into the psychology of that young man and his motifs which as a whole is an incredibly good psychological study.

This one is definitely one of the best Edgar Allan Poe stories. And if you are calling yourself an Edgar Allan Poe fan and you haven’t read it yet then you must do it.

I would say that this short story is a typical Edgar Allan Poe story. Because it is chilling, have a super gothic vibe to it and its hard to stop reading it when you begin.

Need to say that this one is a very enjoyable read and also pretty fun and quick read as well.

The writing style in this one is as you can expect from Edgar Allan Poe which of course means that it is amazing and super moody.

I give this poem 3 / 5

“Metzengerstein” By Edgar Allan Poe Review

The story follows the young Frederick, the last of the Metzengerstein family, who carries on a long-standing feud with the Berlifitzing family. Suspected of causing a fire that kills the Berlifitzing family patriarch, Frederick becomes intrigued with a previously unnoticed and untamed horse.

The words in this short story sort of carries sort of a weight that you will find yourself enthralled at their delivery.

This story has also the ability to grip you and won’t let you until the end of this story.

The writing style was pretty decent but still it wasn’t that good as in some of Edgar Allan Poe’s other work.

This story might first look as a simple gothic story but you will be surprised because there’s so much more in this story.

The background of this story seems like it was inspirited by the words of an ancient prophecy.

This one is very underrated, it is actually better than much people on internet claim it is.

This one is packed with the classic elements of Edgar Allan Poe as well as it is packed elements of gothic literature and Victorian ghost stories. Which I personally am a huge fan of.

I give this poem 3 / 5

“Spirits of the dead” By Edgar Allan Poe Review

The poem is about a lost soul or spirits of dead. It is based on his wife’s death, Virginia Clemm. As though his wife was an important role in his life, and this unfortunately accident, affected him so deeply that after he wrote many poems about dead.

So this one is another pretty okay poem from Edgar Allan Poe.

I need to say that this might be one of the best poem from Edgar Allan Poe in my opinion.

This poem is short as you can except from a poem. This poem is also very quick to read.

If you are like me or similar to me. You will have a fun time reading this poem and you will find this poem very interesting.

Because of the language in this poem is so old as it is, it makes this poem to even more moody than it actually would be without that old fun English.

I give this poem 3 / 5
