“How Do I Love Thee? Let Me Count The Ways” By Elizabeth Barrett Browning Review

The speaker asks how she loves her beloved and tries to list the different ways in which she loves him. Her love seems to be eternal and to exist everywhere, and she intends to continue loving him after her own death, if God lets her.

So yet again I’ve read another boring poem.

The beginning of this poem was okay but after like 3 lines or so it just ran down the hill. In my opinion it happens a lot in poems and short stories.

The writing style was very bad in this one. As it usually happens in lesser known poems like this one.

The plot in this one was just even more boring then the writing style. Because it is another poem about death and god. In 2022 this topic for poems are way too overused.

I give this poem 1 / 5

“We Real Cool” By Gwendolyn Brooks Review

The poem describes a group of teenagers hanging out outside of a pool hall. It imagines these teenagers as rebels who proudly defy convention and authority.

And this time as well we are talking about another boring poem. However in need to give this poem points for not being about death and god.

I also need give this poem points for describing teens now on days in a very good way because it seems like every single teen wants to be a popular and cool kid for whatever reason.

The writing style was okay but nothing extraordinary yet again.

This poem made some good points but it wasn’t really my vibe so that’s the reason for the low rating.

I give this poem 1 / 5

“The Nightmare Song” By W.S. Gilbert Review

I gotta say I had some expectations for this poem which it didn’t live up to. But after all it isn’t the first time a poem or a book didn’t live up to my expectations so got used to feeling disappointed in books and poems.

The writing style here was super bad, it had two or tree parts where the writing style was really shining but overall, the writing style as a whole was super bad.

The plot itself in this poem was super bad. Not as much as it being boring, as much as it was being told in a wrong perspective. It was told in a very boring perspective.

I give this poem 1 / 5

“Filling Station” By Elizabeth Bishop Review

This poem is about Bishop’s optimistic view of life despite her own difficulties. She realises that beauty can be found in even the most banal and mundane things

This poem was for the most part okay, it wasn’t bad nor was it something extraordinary. For the most part this poem feels like the generic poem.

The writing style here, is bad for whatever reason. It didn’t go well with me for whatever reason. It for the most part it felt that the writing style here was the same writing style which you can see in any other average poem.

The plot here was so boring for the most part. It had some very good parts but for the most part it was boring.

I give this poem 1 / 5

“Love Is Not All, Veertien Sonetten” By Edna St. Vincent Millay Review

So we are talking about another poem which I had hard time connecting with.

I don’t know about you but I feel like since late last year and until now I got very picky with books. And almost everything I read since then doesn’t get the rating higher than 2 stars. But there were very few books which got a rating higher than 2 stars.

The writing style in this one was pretty poor if you ask me on this one. But once again let me mention that I’m not into poems so I don’t know if you can comment on writing styles when it comes to poems.

The story was pretty okay but I had hard time connecting with it as I mentioned above.

It was my first poem by this author, so I don’t know if she does a better work on the other poems she has or not. So I can’t compare this one to some of her other work.

I give this poem 1 / 5

“Parsley” By Rita Dove Review

Based around the true story of a mass killing that occurred in 1937 in the Dominican Republic. Rafael Trujillo, referred to as “El General” in the text, was the military dictator of the country. He ordered everyone put to death who could not pronounce the word “parsley”.

Overall its was a good poem but as you may expect from my low rating it didn’t go so well with me.

I had hard time connecting with the story in this poem, so as you might expect if I can’t connect with the story not the characters I just can’t give a good rating to the poem or the book.

The writing style was pretty average, the writing style which you can see in this poem is pretty much like every other average poem. So the writing style doesn’t have a lot to talk about here.

Im also not that into poems so I can’t talk a lot about everything people talk about when it comes to poems.

I give this poem 1 / 5

“Silence” By Edgar Allan Poe Review

This poem portrays how humans can feel about silence; how it both brings people joy and causes them sorrow.

I really had high expectations for this one but it didn’t live up to my exceptions which is sad because I really wanted to like this one.

I either love Edgar Allan Poe’s work or hate and there is nothing in between these two.

This poem was easy and a quick read but still there were a lots of things missing in this one at least for me.

I didn’t bother even to remember this poem because it was so bad and nothing more than that. It was so boring and uninteresting that I don’t even have words for it.

I give this poem 1 / 5

“Oh Captain! My Captain!” By Walt Whitman Review

This poem celebrates the end of the American Civil War, it is also was an tribute to President Abraham Lincoln. Losing and winning are thus closely intertwined throughout the poem.

So this one was my first try at reading something by Walt Whitman and to be honest I wasn’t a fan of this one.

The writing style in this one was not great, it could have been better and the full potential of this poem wasn’t used which is sad.

The plot in this poem is pretty okay, but still it felt like there was something missing in this one.

But I liked the link which this poem had to Civil War (USA) and sort of the tribute in this poem to Abraham Lincoln which is one of the most important historical persons in the history of United States Of America. And of course without Abraham Lincoln, USA would had look very different today and throughout the history.

I think that the main problem on why I gave this poem so low rating is because I’ve never been a poetry lover. Im just a girl who tries to stay away from poetry but I can read it when I have a reading slum.

However I need to give this poem points for showing us that victory comes with a great price to pay. Which some people today might forget about.

I give this poem 1 / 5

“The Hound” By H.P. Lovecraft Review

This short story explores the idea of suicide as a response to knowledge of the world.

Once again we are gathering here to talk about one of H.P Lovecraft’s work and this time it is The Hound.

The writing style in this one was amazing which really surprised me.

The story however could have been much better than it actually was. It had the potential to be better but this potential wasn’t used. Which is sad. And I sort of had hard time connecting with the story.

And I don’t know why but the story didn’t go well with me for whatever reason. Its could have been just me but it was couple of plot holes which I’ve noticed.

I give this short story 1 / 5

“The Beast in the Cave” By H.P. Lovecraft Review

A man touring Mammoth Cave separates from his guide and becomes lost. His torch expires and he is giving up hope of finding a way out in the pitch dark, when he hears strange non-human footsteps approaching him.

So, another boring short story from HP Lovecraft so fucking sad to see this happening. And that things which I’m talking about is that I don’t find myself enjoy most of his short stories. I’ve noticed that late last year I became very picky and it still is around.

However, its quite enjoyable and you will have fun time reading this one but nothing more than this. That’s at least how I felt about this short story.

The writing style here was pretty decent but again it could have been better than it actually was.

The scary part wasn’t existing in this short story for me which is really sad if you ask me. Because I want to feel scared and I want to enjoy his work more than I actually do.

I give this short story 1 / 5
