“Holly” By Stephen King Review

Holly Gibney, one of Stephen King’s most compelling and ingeniously resourceful characters, returns in this thrilling novel to solve the gruesome truth behind multiple disappearances in a midwestern town.

This book is the 3rd book in the stand alone Holly Gibney series. Which for me personally is the character I love the most from the Stephen King Universe. However its important to say that the stand alone Holly Gibney series doesn’t need to be read in order, you can read the series however you want without losing anything because every book in this series is a stand alone crime case which Holly Gibney needs to solve.

I read and reviewed the first book in this series 4 years ago,  and I’ve complete loved the first book in this series which means that I had a lot of expectations for this book even thou I skipped the 2nd book in this series because I’ve heard a lot of mixed opinions about the second book in this series.

I had some big issues with this book while reading it. And these issues were that the plot, characters and tension of this book were very overshadowed by the topics of Covid and Trump which really annoyed me. Because when I’m reading a fictional book I don’t want to reading about political opinions and views with the author has which this book had a fair amount of.

This whole book had the feeling of covid happening as well as the author not liking Donald Trump overshadowing every single aspect of it, which made this book so much less enjoyable, and uninteresting. Because every time I would start getting into the plot and having fun with this book the narrator in this book would make some stupid comments about Trump or covid like “Trump is a psychopath and his covid policy sucks”, which would made me want to grab Stephen King by his t-shirt collar and yell into his face that I don’t care about his political opinions.

However if we step aside the covid and trump comments throughout this book, then we will see that the book was very very good and it would have been easily a 5 star book if Stephen King didn’t throw his political opinions every once and awhile.

The plot in this book is Holly faces an very intriguing crime case, which is that people in a small town keep disappearing. The kidnapper or kidnappers in this book isn’t someone you would suspect at all, which makes this book so much better.

The plot it very interesting, engaging and intriguing. And I personally had a lot fun with it when Stephen king wasn’t forcing his Trump opinions down my throat.

The characters here were all over the specter of annoying and very incredible. Holly and 3 other characters were very good. But the rest of the characters in this book, I just couldn’t care less about them, and some of them were really getting on my nerves  like the guy who gets kidnaped in the first 2 or 3 chapters of this book.

The writing style in this book was very good, and you could easily tell that it was written by Stephen King the master of horror himself. If you have read some of Stephen King’s better books you know what I mean here about the writing style. It was like Stephen King knew what words to use to grab my attention.

“Mengele” By Max Czornyj Review

Before we start this review it is important to say that this book is only available in Polish at the time of writing this year.

This book is very easy to read and understand. And at the same time having fun with it. Before getting into this book I thought that it would be very heavy to read and boring. But the truth about this book is that it is the opposite of it.

This book has some trigger warnings about it. Because it talks a little bit about the experiments Josef Mengele had done on twins, pregnant woman and sick people in the concentration camp. Which means that its not for everyone.

However reading about these experiments done by Josef Mengele truly sets the mod about how big piece of a shit Josef Mengele really was. However the way the author told us about these experiments done done Josef Mengele almost seemed like it was some kind of horror book rather than real life events.

But it is important tot remember that this book isn’t a 100% nonfiction book, the cover of the book itself says that it is “based on true events”. And we all know how far the term “based on true events” can go from the reality.

I personally liked this book so much that a part of me wishes that it would be longer than these 350 pages that it had. I read it in 2 sittings, because it short, the chapters are also short and the way it was written makes it even faster to read because all of these words just get consumed by your brain.

The writing style is very good, because it is simple and easy to read. And it was just like the author knew exactly what words to use to grab your attention and not let it go until the very end.

“Maul: Lockdown” By Joe Schreiber Review

It’s kill or be killed in the space penitentiary that houses the galaxy’s worst criminals, where convicts face off in gladiatorial combat while an underworld gambling empire reaps the profits of the illicit blood sport. But the newest contender in this savage arena, as demonic to behold as he is deadly to challenge, is fighting for more than just survival. His do-or-die mission, for the dark masters he serves, is to capture the ultimate weapon: an object capable of obliterating the Jedi and conquering the galaxy.

Ive been telling this for years since the first time I’ve watched for the first time The Phantom Menace that Darth Maul is one the most underrated characters in the whole Cinema history. And this book book just how much he is underrated in the star wars movies and shows.

This book gives us a bigger background on Darth Maul, even thou we don’t get a lot of his background we get to see what he has been up to before the The Phantom Menace.

This book gives a lot of examples why Darth Maul is one of the best characters in the Star Wars universe, and why every time he is on the screen we get the chills run down our backs.

The writing style in this book is very incredible. It is like the author knows what words to use to grab our attention and not let it go until the very end of this book. Which I personally love when it happens in books.

In this book Darth Maul is send on a special mission to a prison by Darth Sidious to infiltrate a space station prison. Which was much more interesting than what it sounds like.

This book gives Darth Maul his own voice and shows us how unique of a character he is.

However this book starts slow but the action really picks up very fast. Which means that you won’t be bored for too long while reading this book. There is a lot of things happening in this book which makes to a very interesting and enjoyable read.

It might be a very personal opinion, but this book shows big time that the legends books in star wars are really the best book in the star wars universe.

“How to Destroy America in Three Easy Steps” By Ben Shapiro Review

A growing number of Americans want to tear down what it’s taken us 250 years to build—and they’ll start by canceling our shared history, ideals, and culture. Traditional areas of civic agreement are vanishing. We can’t agree on what makes America special. We can’t even agree that America is special. We’re coming to the point that we can’t even agree what the word America itself means. “Disintegrationists” say we’re stronger together, but their assault on America’s history, philosophy, and culture will only tear us apart.

I can’t believe how much I loved this book, this book is incredibly well researched and written. It really blows my mind.

This book talks about a very important subject which of course is the problem of democrats wanting to destroy what America been fighting for over 250 years. And what made America special in the 19 century where huge masses of people were migrating to USA from all over the world.

In this book Ben Shapiro gives us a very good presentation Libertarian and conservative views on America for the past, present and the future. All the reason Ben Shapiro gives us in this book are very good explained and they make a lot of sense. However if you aren’t very politically interested or you don’t know a lot about politics and what was happening for the past couple of years this book might get over your head.

The writing style in this book is very amazing. And it really shows how intelligent and how good of a written Ben Shapiro really is.

This book gives a very on point narrative of what is happening in USA and how the media in the USA is trying to portray the entire country as racist and discriminating for people who are trying to trash all what America stands for and make it a communist country.

This book is very important to read, because is so very well written and even better researched. Because this book takes an academic approach to a lot of very important topics like cancel culture, how the left is trying to change the whole country to fit their agenda and so many other topics.

At the same time this book is very thought provoking and it will for sure make you think about couple of things in this book. Which really make love this book even more. Because it wants you to think for yourself and not force you think like the author does.

“The Beautiful and Damned” By F. Scott Fitzgerald Review

It describes a handsome young man and his beautiful wife, who gradually degenerate into a shopworn middle age while they wait for the young man to inherit a large fortune. Ironically, they finally get it, when there is nothing of them left worth preserving.

I love this book a lot. In my opinion it doesn’t live up to “the great Gatsby” which is my favourite book of all time, but this book is for course one of the best books I’ve read last year.

This book takes place in New York during the “Jazz Age” which I find myself to love more and more to read about.

The fact that this book is F. Scott Fitzgerald second novel is mind-blowing to me because it feels like it was written by a author with huge experience in writing novels. Which really makes me love this book even more.

The writing style here is amazing, it felt like the author knew exactly what words to use to grab my attention and interested and to not let them go until the very end.

All of the characters in this book are incredible. Because they feel like real human being who were alive during the “Jazz Age” in New York City. All of the characters in this book have huge dept to them and they all have something very unique about them.

The ending in this book was very unexpected but at the same time it was very satisfying because it really gave us what the entire book was building up to.

This book portrays the “jazz era” very realistically and without restraint and embellishments.

The plot in this book is very sad and depressing. And the fact that the Gloria and Anthony were heavily inspired by the author’s life and his wife, makes it even more brutally sad.

“Agnes Grey” By Anne Brontë Review

Having lost the family savings on risky investments, Richard Grey removes himself from family life and suffers a bout of depression. Feeling helpless and frustrated, his youngest daughter, Agnes, applies for a job as a governess to the children of a wealthy, upper-class, English family. Ecstatic at the thought that she has finally gained control and freedom over her own life, Agnes arrives at the Bloomfield mansion armed with confidence and purpose. The cruelty with which the family treat her however, slowly but surely strips the heroine of all dignity and belief in humanity.

To be fully honest here, this book have really surprised me in a good way. Because I wasn’t expecting to like this book because until now most classics I read left me not wanting to pick up another classic book ever again.

This book was very interesting and intriguing. It really hooked me up and I couldn’t stop reading it, because I really wanted to know how it would end.

And to learn that this book was written from the author’s experience and perspective as a governess really made me like this book even more.

The plot in this book is very straightforward which means that it is very easy to follow. The plot sets a really comfortable mood to it which I just couldn’t help myself but love.

The characters in this book are very good, and it was just an pure joy to getting to know every character in this book. Expect of the two kids whom Agnes Grey needed to take off because she work as a governess.

Every character in this book feels like a real human being and not like a fictional character made in 1847. And every time it happens in a book I just can’t but fall in love with the book.

The writing style in this book was amazing. And simply from the writing style alone I just can’t believe why haven’t read anything by Anne Brontë until now. But now that I read this book I will keep reading her other novels because her writing style really got me hooked.

“The Bat” By Jo Nesbø Review

Inspector Harry Hole of the Oslo Crime Squad is dispatched to Sydney to observe a murder case. Harry is free to offer assistance, but he has firm instructions to stay out of trouble. The victim is a twenty-three year old Norwegian woman who is a minor celebrity back home. Never one to sit on the sidelines, Harry befriends one of the lead detectives, and one of the witnesses, as he is drawn deeper into the case. Together, they discover that this is only the latest in a string of unsolved murders, and the pattern points toward a psychopath working his way across the country. As they circle closer and closer to the killer, Harry begins to fear that no one is safe, least of all those investigating the case.

Ive been wanting to start this series for years now, and I finally did that. And the first book in the Harry Hole series is amazing.

This book is about Harry Hole being send to Sydney to help the police to solve a murder case which turned out to be a serial killer case rather than one singular murder case.

The plot here is very good because we don’t have the idea who the killer is until the last 40 or so pages. And in my opinion makes me give the book some extra points if the identity of the killer is given to us when the main character breaks it down for everyone else in the book.

The main character which of course is Harry Hole, is one of the best main character I ever encountered so far at least. Because you can truly see the depths of his character. Because you get to see that he is a good person but at the same time he is haunted with the demons of his past as he is struggling to solve the case.

And the rest of the characters which we get to know in this book are very good as well. They all have something unique to them and something that makes us like them. Which really shows how good of an author Jo Nesbø really is.

This book has one pretty gruesome scene in the middle of it, when a clown is killed in a very brutal way. Which might trigger some people but for me it only added another layer to this book. Because we truly get to see how gruesome the serial killer who Harry Hole tries to catch really is.

The writing style is very good as well, it is like the author knows what words to use to grab our attention and to not let it go until the end.

The ending here is not so good as the rest of the story, which made me give this book one star less than what I originally wanted to give it. Which really disappointed me in a way.

“Brainwashed: How Universities Indoctrinate America’s Youth” By Ben Shapiro Review

When parents send their children off to college, mom and dad hope they’ll return more cultivated, knowledgeable, and astute–able to see issues from all points of view. But, according to Ben Shapiro, there’s only one view allowed on most college a rabid brand of liberalism that must be swallowed hook, line, and sinker. In this explosive book, Ben Shapiro, a college student himself, reveals how America’s university system is one of the largest brainwashing machines on the planet. Examining this nationwide problem from firsthand experience, Shapiro shows how the leftists who dominate the universities–from the administration to the student government, from the professors to the student media–use their power to mold impressionable minds. Fresh and bitterly funny, this book proves that the universities, far from being a place for open discussion, are really dungeons of the mind that indoctrinate students to become socialists, atheists, race-baiters, and narcissists.

Finally I got to read a Ben Shapiro book, and it truly lived up to my expectations. Because it was very, very good.

Reading this book 15 + years after it was published in a way takes the wind out of it. Because since the time this book was published things got way out of hands when it comes to college and the woke mob terrorising everyone.

This book is the first book which Ben Shapiro written, and even thou it is his first book it truly shows how skilled3 writer Ben Shapiro is.

This book is over 250+ pages long (depending on what version of this book you get) but it didn’t stop me from reading this book in one sitting because I couldn’t stop reading it and it being so interesting and enjoyable.

Ben Shapiro makes some very good points here, which I totally agree with. Even thou some of his points might be outdated they shows us how the the left controls universities in USA and how fucked up it is to be in college when you are a conservative.

No matter what age you are, you won’t have any problems reading this book because it is very straight-forward and is easy to read.

Ben Shapiro in this book gives us various different areas of the college where conservatives are better not to speak their opinion because if they do they will be thrown out of the university by an angry woke mob.

One down side of this book are the too many generalisable statements made in this book. Which is pretty the biggest no-no for me.

But also this book was published in 2004 which means its pretty outdated because since then the woke mob is on the insane level and terrorizing everyone for even speaking one word if you are on the right wing.

The writing style in this book is very good. It’s pretty rough at times but overall its very good.

“Light of the Jedi” By Charles Soule Review

Long before the First Order, before the Empire, before the Clone Wars. Jedi lit the way for the galaxy in the High Republic. It is a golden age. Intrepid hyperspace scouts expand the reach of the Republic to the farthest stars, worlds flourish under the benevolent leadership of the Senate, and peace reigns, enforced by the wisdom and strength of the renowned order of Force users known as the Jedi. With the Jedi at the height of their power, the free citizens of the galaxy are confident in their ability to weather any storm. But even the brightest light can cast a shadow, and some storms defy any preparation.

This book is part of the “High Republic” storyline of Star Wars which takes place long before what we see in the movies.

If you watched all the movies and TV shows and wonder what happened long before that then the High Republic books is the go to there. However if you didn’t read any High Republic books before or any Star Wars books before then this book might not be a go-to here. Because this book begins in the middle of action, and if you don’t have any context for it, then you won’t probably enjoy it as much.

This book is very good because it really pulls you into the plot line. I personally read this book during one sitting, yes the sitting was couple of hours long but it was worth it and at the same time I couldn’t stop reading it because this book completely pulled my attention.

The plot is very good. At from the very beginning it doest fail to grab you attention and focus because it begins in the middle of action. And there is a lot of things happening in this book, the action is very good, interesting, enjoyable and entreating. As a plus we also get some good lightsaber and spaceship action which really makes me love this book more.

The characters here are very good, they are almost as good as the OG characters like Leia, Luke, Obi-Wan etc. We don’t get a lot of characters in this book but the once we do get are very, very good which really makes up for not many characters.

There were 2 characters which I didn’t like as much as the rest but I still thought that they were okay.

The writing style here is very, very amazing. The writing style made me fall in love with this book more. The writing style here was perfect for this book. And it was like the author knew exactly what words to use to completely have me head over heals for this book.

The ending leaves us with more or less a cliffhanger, which really makes us grab the following book in the High Republic and keep reading.

“A Night in Terror Tower” By R.L. Stine Review

All locked up and no place to go! Sue and her brother, Eddie, are visiting London when they run into a little problem. They can’t find their tour group. Still, there’s no reason to panic. No way their tour guide would just leave them. All alone. In a gloomy old prison tower.

There are a lot of things happening in this book. There is horror, time travel and magic. If you ask me this is the perfect mix for a children horror book which this book is.

The plot in this book wasn’t a masterpiece, but I know that if I read this book and this entire series as a child it would have given me some very good scares and probably some nightmares.

The town main characters are very good, because they feel like real human beings. And they feel very relatable even thou they are children.

But reading this book as an adult is less impressive, and less scary. Because if you read this book and the series as an adult you won’t be scared but you will for sure love this book and series for other reasons especially if you grow up while watching the Goosebumps TV show as I’ve did.

This book (and the rest of this series) is very short. Which means that you can read it in one sitting. But also reading this entire book won’t take you around 1 hour to finish it, if your reading speed is average like mine.

This book has a huge nostalgia, because it reminded me of the OG tv shows I grow up watching. And of course the OG tv shows I’m talking about are “are you afraid of the dark?”, “Goosebumps” and “tales from the crypt”.
