The story revolves around a Bostonian painter named Richard Upton Pickman who creates horrifying images. His works are brilliantly executed, but so graphic that they result in his membership in the Boston Art Club being revoked and himself shunned by his fellow artists.
This short story blew my mind because it was fucking good, I didn’t really expect it to be so good as it was.
So far I gotta say that this short story might be one of my favourites stories from H.P Lovecraft.
The plot here was fucking good but still had some runs down the hill. Which really killed the mood here and the atmosphere which really made me sad.
This short story had some little bit scary moments in it which I truly enjoyed them. But if it comes to the whole story then it had an eerie vibe to it which I enjoyed and found it interesting.
Think Again is a book about the benefit of doubt, and about how we can get better at embracing the unknown and the joy of being wrong. Evidence has shown that creative geniuses are not attached to one identity, but constantly willing to rethink their stances and that leaders who admit they don’t know something and seek critical feedback lead more productive and innovative teams.
So this one is one of the better nonfiction / psychology books i’ve read so far. But to my excuse I didn’t read so many psychology books yet.
I like this book much because of asked you very important questions which you might not have thought about before reading this book.
This book is full of useful social psychology research which surprisingly wasn’t so complained because the author here explained them in way and understandable way for everyone to read no matter if you have multiple bachelor’s degrees in psychology or if you didn’t even graduated high school.
Every social psychology research in this book is very good and in a easy way summarised as well as very good presented for everyone to get interested in this book.
The writing style in this book is amazing, and it has an easy and understandable language. So that everyone would understand what the author is talking about.
This book also goes straight to the point and not like most nonfiction books which are jumping around the main subject.
This book is very interesting and engaging which every nonfiction book should be. Because every nonfiction book have a lots we can learn from them and if they aren’t engaging and interesting we wont learn so much from them.
There are also times when this book will make you giggle and smile at times which also gives this book extra points.
This single volume brings together all of Poe’s stories and poems, and illuminates the diverse and multifaceted genius of one of the greatest and most influential figures in American literary history.
So this one is a complete works of Edgar Allan Poe which were realised.
Let me just say it that I love the edition which I got which is super style-ish and looks extremely good in my bookshelf. It looks all fancy and I really love it.
I’m not gonna review each poem and story which is in it because if I did we would be here for at least 2 whole weeks.
I had so much fun reading this book because every poem and story had something in it. And every poem as well as story had the big gothic vibe into it which I love like nothing else in the world.
I read this book in one week which is very fast for me because this book has over 900 pages (at least the edition which I got) which is a lots to read if you want to read it in one week.
I love this book because it involves every Edgar Allan Poe poem and story which means I didn’t need to buy multiple books to read every work of Edgar Allan Poe.
This book is completely worth buying it because it Edgar Allan Poe we are talking about and who doesn’t love Edgar Allan Poe?
If I gonna have kids one day, this would be the book I would force them to read no matter what.
Every poem and story in this book has a creepy, gothic, and thrilling vibe to it.
Long ago, in a time forgotten, a preternatural event threw the seasons out of balance. In a land where summers can last decades and winters a lifetime, trouble is brewing. The cold is returning, and in the frozen wastes to the north of Winterfell, sinister and supernatural forces are massing beyond the kingdom’s protective Wall. At the center of the conflict lie the Starks of Winterfell, a family as harsh and unyielding as the land they were born to. Sweeping from a land of brutal cold to a distant summertime kingdom of epicurean plenty, here is a tale of lords and ladies, soldiers and sorcerers, assassins and bastards, who come together in a time of grim omens. Here an enigmatic band of warriors bear swords of no human metal; a tribe of fierce wildlings carry men off into madness; a cruel young dragon prince barters his sister to win back his throne; and a determined woman undertakes the most treacherous of journeys. Amid plots and counterplots, tragedy and betrayal, victory and terror, the fate of the Starks, their allies, and their enemies hangs perilously in the balance, as each endeavors to win that deadliest of conflicts: the game of thrones.
Let me start this review with saying that this book is so far the best books I’ve read so far and Ive read 250 +. Which really speaks for itself if you can tell.
This book easily takes the cake for me when it comes to the best fantasy book I’ve read so far.
I had this book on my shelve unread for a good time and its because the size of it scared me every time I wanted to pick it up. But now I finally read it and I can honestly say that this book is in my top 10 books so far in life.
The writing style is brilliant, incredible and amazing in every meaning of these three words. The writing style in this book makes you imagine the scenes in every page of this book. The writing style really drags you into the story and wont let you quit reading until you read the last page.
This book is long, very long but when you start reading it you wont know when you did finish the book. It goes very fast because it drags you in and you will lose track of time when you first get into it. And thats how every book should be like.
Because of books like this one I’m a huge book lover and a nerd like I am.
As you might know already there are millions and millions of reviews on this book, but I felt like I need as well give my thoughts on this book.
The setting of the whole story is just nothing like you have seen before in any fiction / fantasy book. Because it has so much into it. There are a whole world which George R R Martin have builded for us. There are many different families, places, problems, conflicts, drama, intrigues, conspiracy plots and so much more.
And every character and family has its own problems, roles etc. And every character is so different from each other that you almost cant believe that one person have gotten the idea and written the entire book.
This book is so different from any other fantasy book because every character has their own behaviour, habits and style of talking, walking, acting etc. But in every other fantasy book the characters are so similar to each other that it is hard to tell them apart. And thats why I love these characters in this book and the book itself so much. Because every character have so much depth into them, sometimes they have so much depth that it feels like these characters are real people because they are so well written.
Sometimes these characters in this book feels like they have more depth and meaning in them than a lots of people in the real world.
This book has everything a great book should have. It has action, drama, problems, travel, conspires, intrigues, dragons, hate, love, friendship, family bonds and so much more.
This book should also get huge points for its world build up, because the world in this book is so big that you cant even remember every place which is mentioned in this book. And every place in this book have a lots of unique things about them which makes them stand out from the rest.
And every big family in this book has characteristics which makes them who they are. And every family stands for something different and something deeper than just people who soon or later gonna die. And when one of these main characters die in this book you will become very sad because you already got sort of a bond with them throughout their journey in the book.
And we all the time get new and good characters which we as well form sort of a bond with them. Which is very good.
The storyline is deep and it takes a lots of effort to even get a brief imagine of the storyline because it so deep and big.
Frankenstein tells the story of gifted scientist Victor Frankenstein who succeeds in giving life to a being of his own creation. However, this is not the perfect specimen he imagines that it will be, but rather a hideous creature who is rejected by Victor and mankind in general.
Let me just start this review with saying that this one is a fucking classic and if you are a book reader and lover you just must read this one.
You won’t regret reading this one as long as you are into horror and gothic story which will drag you into the story and wont let you go until you finish the book.
This one have surprised me a lot because I was expecting a super hard book with very difficult old english in it but oh boy it had surprised me. But in fact it is the full opposite of it. The language in this one was super interesting and enjoyable, it was easy and it seemed like a mix between Edgar Allan Poe and Stephen King.
This one is just an incredible tale of horror which wouldn’t be written in a better way.
The writing style of the author is fucking incredible and probably the best I have seen in my reading journey which really speaks for itself when it beats Stephen King and the rest. The writing style is completely beautiful and it really brings a lot into the story.
There were moments in this book which seemed a little bit as a drag but they are survivable.
This one beats most of the modern day horror books which also says a lot about how good this one really is.
However there are people who wont like this one because it has a huge gothic vibe to it and it isn’t scary as you may expect. This one is rather a thriller book than a horror book.
This one is a classic for a reason and you will know why when you read this one.
This one is so far in the top 10 books Ive read so far in my life and I have read over 350 books.
A masterful true crime account of the Golden State Killer—the elusive serial rapist turned murderer who terrorized California for over a decade—from Michelle McNamara, the gifted journalist who died tragically while investigating the case. “You’ll be silent forever, and I’ll be gone in the dark.”
Since this book was released back in 2018 I wanted to read this book so badly that I can’t even explain it, and finally this year I read it.
To be honest I had low expectations for this book, but oh boy I was wrong with setting these small expectations. This book was not full pot book but it was close to it.
If you are interested in true crime and cold cases you should definitely read this book if you haven’t so far.
I need to say that so far this book is my favourite true crime book I’ve read.
This book was super interesting and I couldn’t stop reading this book at times. Which doesn’t happen a lot in true crime books, because most of the true crime books happens to be boring because of the amount of details they provide and zero room for personal thinking.
This book not only covers the details about the case but also it covers all the people which have helped Michelle McNamara coming closer and closer to solving this case. It also involves the journey which lead Michelle McNamara becoming obsessed with cold cases.
This book gives you a lots of details about the Golden State Killer and all of his rapes and kills. But these details which this book provides you aren’t overwhelming which happens in a lots of true crime books now on days.
Michelle McNamara was an incredible true crime writer and investigator which both hers blog (which you can find here) and this book.
This book also provides you with a lots of details about the police investigations and all the wrong things the police have done during the investigations. But this one also shows that the Golden State Killer was much more smarter than a lots of people thought he was.
I personally also have a huge obsession with true crime or to be more specific with cold cases so when I’ve heard that this book was coming out I just knew that I’ve got to read it.
After reading this book I’ve understood why this book won Goodreads Choice for best nonfiction book in 2018. The reason behind why this book won this is because this book is amazing and fucking good.
This book is one of the few books where you wish it could have been longer, which doesn’t happen a lot.
Hallucination takes place at a time in the future although the exact date or era is not specific. The action takes place on Energy Planet, a rocky earth-like planet orbiting a neutron star in the Milky Way.
It important to say that this story is a classic written by Isaac Asimov. And if you are thinking about starting your journey with Isaac Asimov this story is the place to do so.
This story was written back in 1985, but it carries the ideas related to the present which a lots of work of Isaac Asimov does.
This story is of course about space travel and it involves all the parts which a science fiction movie / book have now on days. So be warned about that. However it doesn’t fail to ask us the big questions about space travel and being a multi planetary species which we will be one day in the future.
This story have the perception of reality which it needs to get points for. Because a lots of science fiction books and movies now are far from having this. And most people like to have stuff explained not just give us the “thats just how it is, accept it”.
This story is in the end a quick and enjoyable read, which most science fiction fans will enjoy. There are some parts in this story which seems a little bit forced but it doesn’t take away the fun from this story.
It’s important to say that this story will not fail with making you think about what might happen when humans will become one day a multi planetary species.
The ending have a twist to it as we all can expect from a science fiction book.
The nineteenth century witnessed an explosion of imagination. After centuries dominated by church religion and the eighteenth century’s age of reason, men and women began exploring new ways of looking at and experiencing the world, including the world of the unseen.
This story is for the most part a story about a dude who is close to death, and he is put in a state of sleep-waking ish. Which isn’t so unique idea for a story.
The narrator in this book isn’t the main character, the main character is the man who is close to death. The narrator and the man in this story are talking about universe, God and other “mysteries” we don’t use a lot of out time on now on days.
The ending is not what every Edgar Allan Poe fan would expect. Because the ending leaves us more or less with the conclusion that the man is asleep or just talking beyond the grave. Which is very poor work made by Edgar Allan Poe.
The writing style in this story is very on point with Edgar Allan Poe. It’s good, it drags you into the story and makes you imagine what you are reading which not a lots of authors have the ability to do.
It’s important to mention that this story may seem like an earlier version of M. Valdemar to some people. It did at least for me when I read it the first time years ago in junior high.
The whole story takes us into a journey which is involving the fad of the time of writing. However it’s important to mention that this tale starts with making you curious about what will be the next thing which will be said. But after a while it turns into a philosophical discussion story which again not a lot of people likes.
The whole plot about a sick & dying man who is hypnotized in a state that is halfway between life and death. will make some people love it, but when we look at the aspect that there are a lots of stories which involves these elements now on days does take the hype away.
In the highly anticipated Thinking, Fast and Slow, Kahneman takes us on a groundbreaking tour of the mind and explains the two systems that drive the way we think. System 1 is fast, intuitive, and emotional; System 2 is slower, more deliberative, and more logical. Kahneman exposes the extraordinary capabilities—and also the faults and biases—of fast thinking, and reveals the pervasive influence of intuitive impressions on our thoughts and behaviour.
This one is definitely a must read book, because there are a lots of things which you will learn about your brain and yourself. And most of these things are things which you probably didn’t think about before.
This book explains also a lots of psychological reasons behind the decisions and action we take even when we dont think about it. Dont worry this book explains this in a very easy and smooth way and everyone will at least understand 50% of this book.
I need to give this book points for being very quick read at least for me.
By reading this book you can just skip reading books like “Black Swan”, “Blink”, “Nudge” and very likely hundreds of other Behavioural Economics books because this one really covers what most Behavioural Economics books leak to cover.
If you are interested in psychology or in why human beings behave the way they behave you should read this book.
I need to be honest and say that this book is pretty lengthy, self-conscious and a challenging read if it is your first book about psychology. But you will gain a lots out of this book when you only give it a try.
This book gives you a fascinating and very interesting study of the human mind. But also about how people make decisions together with how the decision-making process can be improved.
This book was written by a Nobel-prize-winning economist which can be trusted that he isn’t feeding us bull shit.
Elon Musk, the entrepreneur and innovator behind SpaceX, Tesla, and SolarCity, sold one of his internet companies, PayPal, for $1.5 billion. Ashlee Vance captures the full spectacle and arc of the genius’s life and work, from his tumultuous upbringing in South Africa and flight to the United States to his dramatic technical innovations and entrepreneurial pursuits. Vance uses Musk’s story to explore one of the pressing questions of our age: can the nation of inventors and creators who led the modern world for a century still compete in an age of fierce global competition? He argues that Musk is an amalgam of legendary inventors and industrialists including Thomas Edison, Henry Ford, Howard Hughes, and Steve Jobs. More than any other entrepreneur today, Musk has dedicated his energies and his own vast fortune to inventing a future that is as rich and far-reaching as the visionaries of the golden age of science-fiction fantasy.
If you are like me and you are a big fan of Elon Musk and a big geek of Tesla and SpaceX, you will enjoy this book. Because this book provides us with a lots of information about Elon Musk and what kind of a person he is in his comapnies and behind closed doors.
This book is excellent and inspiring. It might also give you motivation about following your dreams and make cool projects no matter the odds against you. If you are afraid of taking action because you think that your business will not make it than remeber that Tesla had very small chances to succeed back in 2003 but look at it now.
This book shows that being reckless like Elon Musk helps. Elon Musk was reckless in two areas: in the risks he took, and the way that he manages his companies.
The attitude which the author took with hounding to Elon Musk and wearing him down till he agreed to cooperate with this biography, was amazing but still there are couple of things which this book could be better.
There are moments in this book which the author is like”Holy crap, Elon Musk is CRAZY”. And thats the thing every genius is in their own way crazy untill everyone sees that they are actually not that crazy after all.
Elon Musk’s comapnies are also the most exciting companies ever. And the fact that you can read about their early struggles at the beggining are amazing, and really brings a light that every company have the change to succeed no matter what.
The writing style itself is pretty good but there are times where the writing could be much better than it actually was. But I think that in this asspect and in this book that doesnt matter that much because of the whole concept of this book and idea behind it.
Even if you are not the biggest fan of Tesla, Space X, Solar City or Elon Musk you will at least have the opinion that this book is pretty decide and worth reading. Because there are always something to learn when it comes to big and important people like the goat himself aka Elon Musk.
Elon Musk is an important innovator of our times, but the author could take different take with this book. Of course the author had many interviews with Elon Musk and it would be very dope if he had mentioned stuff about there interviews and his feelings he got out of these interviews. It would have been also very dope if the author had involved some of these interviews in this book and not just talk about Elon Musk and his dope companies.
Of course this biography isnt the best one which you can find. But still you will learn something from it and most of you will enjoy it.
