“The Coliseum” By Edgar Allan Poe Review

This poem about the Coliseum in Rome. However, it is metaphorically about ourselves, our past, and our future.

I always wanted to visit Colosseum of Rome and the appeal of this poem makes me want to go there even more.

This poem was easy and quick to read. But also it is easy to follow.

There were some few parts of this poem which I liked, but the parts I didn’t like were much more of them. And the poem as a whole wasn’t overly memorable or good.

The writing is good as you can expect from Edgar Allan Poe.

I need to say that this poem gets the points for having the gothic and dark vibe to it.

To be honest here I personally thing that this poem is one of the weakest poems written by Edgar Allan Poe.

I give this poem 1 / 5

“Israfel” By Edgar Allan Poe Review

This poem is about the angel Israfel who is mentioned in the Qua’rn as having the sweetest voice of all God’s creatures. Edgar Allan Poe ends this poem by stating if he and the angel switched places, he would be the one with the sweetest voice and Israfel wouldn’t sing as well.

This poem is far from a good poem but it also is not a super bad poem. I personally would call it a decent poem, but I know that Edgar Allan Poe was able to do a much better work than this one.

This poem is quick and easy to read. It also involves some great lines in it but that isn’t enough to make this poem to a good poem.

I would say that this poem is worth reading, but it is far away from a must read if you are interested in reading some Edgar Allan Poe if you haven’t so far.

This poem is for the most part written about the angel from the Koran person named Israfel.

The writing style is far from great, it’s not even okay. Which is surprising because we are talking about something which was written by Edgar Allan Poe.

I give this poem 1 / 5

“To Helen” By Edgar Allan Poe Review

This poem is about an allusion-rich poem that depicts the poet’s love for an older woman through the image of Helen of Troy. The speaker compares the mother of a close friend, Jane Stanard, to Helen throughout the three stanzas of ‘To Helen’.

This one again is another beautiful love poem from Edgar Allan Poe.

This one has oozed with some dark mixed with moody melancholy which in the end is what Edgar Allan Poe is famous for.

I need to say that in this one there are definite hints and sparks of hope that love can bring.

This poem is a quick and easy small poem.

The writing style is amazing which is pretty much the only good thing about this poem in my opinion.

I give this poem 1 / 5

“Hymn” By Edgar Allan Poe Review

This poem shows how Poe is devoted to god. His devotion to god is excessively shown in the next two lines, where it says, In joy and woe- in good and ill- Mother of god be with me stille

To be honest here this poem is a short and sweet poem. Which for the most part speaks about love and devotion that would rival religion.

This poem is that one which is flowed well and it is also very easy to read. And let’s not forget that it is a quick read.

The writing style is of course amazing because we are talking about Edgar Allan Poe here, so it would be strange if the writing style was anything but amazing.

This is for sure one of the more interesting poems written by Edgar Allan Poe.

This one is also very engaging. Which makes it even better.

This poem was so good that it almost feels like it was too short and that it should be way longer than it actually was.

I give this poem 5 / 5

“To Octavia” by Edgar Allan Poe Review

This poem is a lovely short poem. Its dark but also pretty sweet in a way.

This one makes you think of the potential danger that comes from allowing someone else to take hold of your heart. Because it gives them a chance to crush it and take away all that makes one happy.

The writing style is pretty dark but the theme gives it a sweet spotlight. The whole writing style is typical to Edgar Allan Poe.

I give this poem 5 / 5

“Song” by Edgar Allan Poe Review

This one was another quick poem to read by Edgar Allan Poe.

I need to say that I’ve enjoyed this one a lots more than I have expected that I would.

There were many times where this poem made me feel like it was written by an art student who have written it for his crush.

It was an okay poem but I’ve read so many poems and tales from Edgar Allan Poe that I know that he can do a much better job than this poem.

This poem is quite beautiful when it comes to the language and imagery.

I give this poem 1 / 5

“Al Aaraaf” by Edgar Allan Poe Review

“Al Aaraaf” is the longest poem Poe wrote and was inspired by Tycho Brahe’s discovery of a supernova back in 1572 which was visible for about seventeen months. Poe identified this nova with Al Aaraaf, a star that was the place between paradise and hell.

Before we go into this review I need to be honest with you about the fact that I don’t have a clue what the poem supposed to be about.

Dont get me wrong it was eloquently and gorgeously written. Because you know Edgar Allan Poe have written it.

After some time spent thinking I have understood that this poem was about 2 spiritual beings who fall in love with each other but it also was about  the consequences which come from these 2 spiritual beings falling in love which each other.

This poem gets 1 / 5

“Alone” By Edgar Allan Poe Review

The theme of the poem is that of loneliness. … The poem ends on a harrowing note, that the narrator will always be doomed to see a demon in his view

This poem has uniqueness and isolation from a dark perspective. Which is very typical to Edgar Allan Poe, and thats the reason why people read Edgar Allan Poe’s work.

In this poem you can feel the depth of sadness which Edgar Allan Poe might have and decided to put it in the lines of this poem.

In this poem Edgar Allan Poe outwardly acknowledges that from a very young age he knew that he had been sadly different.

I give this poem 4 / 5

“The Colloquy of Monos and Una” By Edgar Allan Poe Review

It focuses on two people, who are apparently in love, discussing their passing away from the mortal plane. Monos died first and describes being conscious of his surrounding from his death until after his burial. He describes feeling Una by his side all the way to feeling the worms slowly devour his empty body.

This one is all about the conversation between two lovers who have gone beyond the grave. I don’t know why but this one did not appeal to me which is really strange because I usually like stories like this one.

However I need to give this story points for being uniquely imagined and very creative in its own way.

This one have all the points which a good gothic story should have which of course is the gothic vibe, romance, dark mood and a deeper meaning behind it.

And to be honest but I got Friedrich Nietzsche vibes from this one which was really strange for me. Which of course I really dont mind.

The whole potential of this story for me at least wasn’t used as it could have been. So this is the reason why I give this one so low rating.

The writing style is far from good or even okay. It almost doesn’t feel like Edgar Allan Poe have written it.

I give this poem 1 / 5

“The Island of the Fay” By Edgar Allan Poe Review

The story is told by an anonymous narrator, who chances upon a “profusely verdured” islet and fancies that a fairy is present on the island.

This was another pretty decent and lovely story from none other than Edgar Allan Poe.

But as someone who have read almost every poem and story from Edgar Allan Poe I need to say that he was able to do a much better work than he did on this one. But it also could be me being to harsh to this short story.

The writing style has some beautiful moments but for the most part the writing style is pretty boring and uninteresting.

However the take which Edgar Allan Poe is taking on the the fair folk is very enjoyable and interesting. But he didn’t use the full potential of this story which it could very easily have.

The first part of this short story is more or less a dull and not what Ive expected but it sort of gets better when the ending comes closer and closer. And the imagery at the end which Edgar Allan Poe is giving us was beautiful.

This one didn’t quite work for me. I really wanted to like it but there are a lots of short stories and poems from Edgar Allan Poe which simply doesn’t work for me for some reason.

I give this poem 1 / 5
