“To M. L. S——” By Edgar Allan Poe Review

Edgar Allan Poe wrote this poem to Marie Louise Shew, who helped his  wife Virginia as she was dying.

Its was pretty okay poem, it wasn’t good but it also wasn’t super bad.

For the most part this one was a sweet, short and quick to read poem.  And pretty much nothing more than that.

This one is pretty enjoyable quick read which doesn’t give you any knowledge about the person which it was written to.

I personally not sure what this poem is or what it’s trying to convey.

The writing style in this one was pretty much okay, but still as someone who have read almost every poem and story written by Edgar Allan Poe I know that he can do much better.

This poem is also one of these poems where the more times you read it the more you get confused.

I give this poem 1 / 5

“The Conversation of Eiros and Charmion” By Edgar Allan Poe Review

Two people, who have been renamed Eiros and Charmion after death, discuss the manner in which the world ended. Eiros, who died in the recent apocalypse, explains the circumstances to Charmion, who died ten years previously.

This poem is bad, like really bad.

The whole point of this poem is confusing and hard to understand at least for me. It really didn’t make much sense one way or another.

The writing style isn’t better, its not the typical Edgar Allan Poe as you would have expected.

I give this poem 1 / 5

“Romance” By Edgar Allan Poe Review

This poem is about finding love and how Edgar Allan Poe thinks that he didn’t have the time to care for romance or love. He thinks that it might even be a bad thing if he did, but he couldn’t stop his heart if it trembled.

I need to be honest with you and say that this one is actually one of the few poems that I found enjoying while reading.

This poem is a nice easy and quick read, which is definitely worth reading. But it is not in the classic Edgar Allan Poe style as you might expect.

However this poem isn’t bad nor good. It’s for the most part a decent poem.

The easiest way to explain this poem is that it basically an ode to romance in a personified form with a little gothic vibe to it.

The writing style is pretty good, but as a die hard Edgar Allan Poe fan I know that he was able to do much better than what he did in this poem.

However in this poem Edgar Allan Poe is able to contemplate the contrast between the world as perceived in his childhood to the world as viewed “of late” in his adulthood.

I give this poem 1 / 5

“To” (1833) by Edgar Allan Poe Review

The title of this poem refers to 2 other poems carrying the same name as this one.

This one is pretty dividend but it’s not like it is one of the top poems from Edgar Allan Poe.

The entire poem has 8 sentences, which means that you can read the entire poem within a minute or so.

This poem was first attributed to Edgar Allan Poe by a man named John C. French.

This poem, despite its many reprinting it did get, never had any significant revisions.

I’m not the biggest fan of poems so it might be why I give this poem so low rating as I did. But I’m trying to break the ice between me and poems and that’s why I’m trying to read more poems.

The narrator of this poem equates breaking with his love as one of several failures which I personally liked.

“The Bells” by Edgar Allan Poe Review

This incantatory poem examines bell sounds as symbols of four milestones of human experience—childhood, youth, maturity, and death.

This another okay poem written by Edgar Allan Poe. It is far as epic as some other work of Edgar Allan Poe but still it is a poem which every Edgar Allan Poe fan should read.

This poem in the end is quite melodical and the beat truly nearly sounds like tolling bells.

The writing style is okay for the most part. But it is also very clever writing style in this poem. But on this one come on, we are talking about a poem which was written about Edgar Allan Poe.

For the most part it is a nice, simple  poem that follows the stages of life of the narrator. This poem needs to get points for the unique capture which Edgar Allan Poe have give us in this poem. Edgar Allan Poe had captured in a very good and nice way the feeling of the stages of life in just four simple verses.

This poem really doesn’t fail to show that Edgar Allan Poe isn’t just a gothic, dark and sinister writer. This poem shows that Edgar Allan Poe was able to write some light and different kind of tales and poems.

In this one Edgar Allan Poe have molded his words to reflect the bells. And gave this poem a rhyme, rhythm together with joy, grief, elation and panic.

“A Dream Within a Dream” by Edgar Allan Poe Review

The poem expresses doubt and uncertainty about the nature of reality, questioning whether life itself is just an illusion. The whole poem is asking the question of “Is all that we see or seem but a dream within a dream?”

This poem is for the most past a philosophical poem which brings us multiple questions about the reality and what separates the reality from dreams and imagination.

This poem is very short and very simple. It’s easy to follow up with. The ending itself is really hitting you. This poem really makes you wish that more poems could have been like this. Because it is so good. It is deep, well written and up to you on how deep the meaning is for you.

This poem really makes you think about your life and makes you question your definition of reality.

This poem is so well written that it short of makes you imagine Edgar Allan Poe being somewhere and thinking about these questions which he gives us in this poem and later making these thoughts to a beautiful poem.

This poem needs to get extra points for showing the reader how reality can be a tricky thing. The poem shows how the reality may escapes us when we don’t pay close attention to it.

The whole poem as you may think already is about sadness and loss which we all experience at some point in our lives.

This poem illustrates that human life is actually slipping away, dribbling like water or sand for that part and implies that our existence is just an abstraction of the mind.

This poem really stands out like something written by a gothic author who lived a some time ago.

I give this poem 4 / 5

“IF” by Rudyard Kipling Review

This poem lists a set of conditionals for the speaker’s son to follow in order to become an ideal man. The speaker advises his son about how to perceive the world and life’s challenges so that he can both learn from his experiences and resolutely overcome barriers.

This poem makes you think about a lot of “if”s. It makes you think about what you would have done or not do in some situation. It challenges you think about life and how short, hard and unique it is.

For some people this poem make more sense than it does for other, it may motivate you, inspire you and give you advice.

This poem brings forward the true meaning of life, and that it is much more than cash, adventures or even family.

I give this poem 5 / 5

“The Raven” By Edgar Allan Poe Review

92At midnight, the poem’s speaker hears a tapping on his door. When he opens the window, a raven flies in. … The speaker asks the raven if he’ll ever see his lost lover, Lenore, again, and the raven once again cries, “Nevermore.”

So the famous “Raven” by Edgar Allan Poe. This book or whatever you want to call it is really worth reading.

The story behind this story is amazing. More or less this whole poem is a masterpiece and it doesn’t surprise me why Edgar Allan Poe is so fucking huge legend. Because if he rest of his work is just as amazing and unique as this one, then he deserves it.

This whole poem are boring at times, but its fun.

The writing style is very impressive. Its like typical 1800s writing style.  Its very moody and good.

I give this one 4 / 5

“Annabel Lee” by Edgar Allan Poe Review

Many years ago, there was a kingdom by the sea. In this kingdom lived a young woman called Annabel Lee, whom the speaker suggests the reader might know. According to the narrator, Annabel Lee’s only ever thought about the love between them. They were both children, but their love went well beyond what love can normally be. In fact, this love was so special that the angels of heaven were jealous and desirous of it.

It is important to say that this poem was the last poem written by Edgar Allan Poe. This poem was written in 1849 and published not long after the Edgar Allan Poe’s death in the same year.

This poem is written from the narrator’s perspective where he is telling us about the death of a woman he loved. And as you might had guessed this woman was named Annabel Lee.

This poem is a love story field with sadness, darkness and death. Which Edgar Allan Poe is pretty much very known for. This poem is very realistic because it shows that love isn’t only constant happiness and joy.

This poem takes 5 minutes to read if you are a slow reader, so really you can read it anywhere, in elevator, waiting in line etc.

This poem starts out as a fairy tale and deteriorates into a horror story as the ending is closer and closer. If you are into these kind of tales, stories or poems give this poem a try if you haven’t so far.

This poem in my opinion is an attempt to explain the intensity of love and how it can endure and conquer even the unconquerable.

The writing style is very 1800s ish, and it defiantly very moody and very easy to get into it.

I give this poem 5 / 5

“The Morning After I Killed Myself” by Anne Katheryn Hawley Review

Last night I killed myself. Coz I thought that killing myself would put an end to my pain’ Don’t we realize the value of the things we have AFTER we’ve lost them? Isn’t it human tendency? That’s exactly what has happened with Myra. At 16, Myra’s life is a complete mess. She hasn’t got the chance to breathe properly from the time she turned 12, and now she has no hopes left. She kills herself. Now. She’s dead. But. She wants to live. It’s after this realization that she sits down to write her story: her last realization: ‘THE MORNING AFTER I KILLED MYSELF’.

When you look at the whole meaning behind this poem then you will see the beauty of it especially when you are like me and you like / love poems and books who deals with suicidal thoughts. But when you look at the poem itself without analysing it you will see that the potential of this poem wasn’t used.

This poem is deeply representative of the intimate nature our lives have in the environment and life around us. So it needs to get points for that, but still it is far away from making this poem to a good piece of work.

However this poem also needs to get its points for the way the speaker selflessly relates to them showed a wise and poignant look at how much she was, herself, the shining beacon in all of that glory.

The deeper meaning of this poem as I said above somewhere, is brilliant. Because it makes you think that maybe i should still fight when you are dealing with suicidal thoughts. And when you are not dealing with suicidal thoughts this poem really brings you in the thought process of someone who might be dealing with suicidal thoughts or deep depression.

However there are parts in this poem where it might provoke a negative response from some readers. But again it goes to individuals and their perspectives and their opinions about literature and poems.

But whats really good with this poem is that focuses on particulars and at the small pieces and moments in our day to day life which we don’t appreciate until they are gone.  And it is also important to mention here that this poem isn’t trying to explain universal love or beauty or truth.

The writing itself could be much better than it actually was in this poem, because there are times where the writing was super poor and it seemed like it was writing by a high school student who was trying to pass the class for the semester.
