“The Ugly Duckling” By Hans Christian Andersen Review

For over one hundred years The Ugly Duckling has been a childhood favorite, and Jerry Pinkney’s spectacular new adaptation brings it triumphantly to new generations of readers. With keen emotion and fresh vision, the acclaimed artist captures the essence of the tale’s timeless appeal: The journey of the awkward little bird — marching bravely through hecklers, hunters, and cruel seasons — is an unforgettable survival story; this blooming into a graceful swan is a reminder of the patience often necessary to discover true happiness. Splendid watercolors set in the lush countryside bring drama to life.

This one was really not for me. Maybe reading children stories as an adult isn’t the best thing to do for some people.

I personally found this story to be very boring and uninteresting. I really had hard time reading it because I just couldn’t get into the story.

The story is pretty quick read, but that’s the only good thing about this story for me personally.

The writing style in this one was very generic which every fairytale has.

“The Dispatcher” By John Scalzi Review

One day, not long from now, it becomes almost impossible to murder anyone – 999 times out of a thousand, anyone who is intentionally killed comes back. How? We don’t know. But it changes everything: war, crime, daily life. Tony Valdez is a Dispatcher – a licensed, bonded professional whose job is to humanely dispatch those whose circumstances put them in death’s crosshairs, so they can have a second chance to avoid the reaper. But when a fellow Dispatcher and former friend is apparently kidnapped, Tony learns that there are some things that are worse than death and that some people are ready to do almost anything to avenge a supposed wrong.

This one didn’t go well with me at all.

The premise of this one was very good, but that’s the only good thing about this one.

It was very boring. And it really stretched out for way too long in my opinion. Which resulted in me DNF-ing this one.

The dialogues in this one, were pure torture since they were so flat that they seem like I wasn’t something something to fill up the pages with.

The characters here felt like the same person but just in different clothes. Which really made me don’t like this one even more.

The writing style where was also very bad. The writing style really felt like the author was trying to force you to like this one.

“There’s a Giant Trapdoor Spider Under Your Bed” By Edgar Cantero Review

The thrill of a sleepover becomes sheer terror as kids voice their greatest fears into existence in this cheeky, vividly cinematic tale by New York Times bestselling author Edgar Cantero. Lights out. It’s bad enough that its venom-dripping chelicerae can slice through flesh like warm butter. Worse? It’s right there under the bunk. It’s a fact now. To make it through the night, the children must obey the rules: don’t get out of bed, stay out of the shadows, and don’t wake the beast. But as the threats multiply, so do the rules of survival. And with the safety of dawn still hours away, the fun is just beginning.

I need to admit that I didn’t like this one at all.

This one is written from children’s perspective but in a very bad way.

The entire plot here was about some kids having a sleepover and they stat imagining that under their bunks is a giant spider waiting to kill them. Which really feels like it was written by an elementary school student.

The writing style made me feel like it was written for 9 year olds, because it was very simple. Way too simple if you ask me.

However the beginning was good, but it very fast went down hill and it really made me regret using my time on this one.

To be fully honest this one was very ridiculous and I was thinking the entire time “what am I reading?”.

“This Long Vigil” By Rhett C. Bruno Review

After twenty five years serving as the lone human Monitor of the Interstellar Ark, Hermes, Orion is scheduled to be placed back in his hibernation chamber with the other members of the crew. Knowing that he will die there and be replaced before the ship’s voyage is over, he decides that he won’t accept that fate. Whatever it takes he will escape Hermes and see space again, even if it means defying the regulations of his only friend — the ship-wide artificial intelligence known as Dan.

I didn’t know anything about this one before getting into this one. Which turns out wasn’t so bad things after all.

I am not typically a big fan of Sci-fi but this one really surprised me because I came to like it very much.

The plot in this one was very good, because it was a unique turn on the sci-fi space travel topic which now is very watered down.

The characters in this one were very good, and I came to like them. They were very few characters in this one. But the once we got really made it up for it.

The writing style here was very simple, almost too simple in my opinion. And that’s pretty much the only bad thing I have to say about this one.

“The Storks” By Hans Christian Andersen Review

“One of you will be hanged, the second imprisoned, the third burned and the fourth turned upside down.” This is how the children mocked the family of storks that lived on the roof. This frightened the chicks and, to reassure them, their mother spoke of the long journey they would soon take. And, who knows, perhaps one day they would have their revenge on the little tyrants who mocked them in their nest.

This one is the first story written by Hans Christian Andersen which ive read. And I gotta say that I loved it.

This story have something unique about it, which really makes it to stand out.

The moral of the story is great but of course I won’t ruin the fun for people who haven’t read this one with spoiler talk.

Some people after reading this short story might say that storks are malicious or evil but the real bad guys in this story are humans as they always are.

This story is very short and can be read in 5 minutes at the very worse.

The writing style here is very easy but at the same its very thick in old English.

“Henry Vi Part III” By William Shakespeare Review

The third part of this play is the same as the first one and the second one, it is just as bad as the 2 previous once.

This one feels like an unfinished play which really annoyed me a lot because it really killed the entire play for me.

This play has the same problem as the first one which is that if you don’t know anything about British royal family back in the day then you we struggle throughout this entire play and it is be torture.

There are many good characters but they really didn’t made me like them or made me care for them. I appreciate very character in this play but to be fully honest here I didn’t care for me at all.

The writing style was pretty good, I’m still pretty fresh to William Shakespeare so I can’t compare it to some of his other works but it was good enough I assume.

For me personally it was pretty boring and it was too many of names to follow and it makes even harder that I’m not familiar with the British royal family from hundreds of years ago.

“Cymbeline” By William Shakespeare Review

King Cymbeline rules over Britain under the protection of Rome. His kingdom must pay tribute. Cymbeline learns that his only daughter, Innogen, has secretly married his ward, Posthumus Leonatus, a man of low birth. Furious with the couple’s disobedience, Cymbeline decides to banish Posthumus from Britain.

The writing style here was typical William Shakespeare writing with the fun poetic language in it. Which to be honest must have been the best part about this play. Which really doesn’t do much for me personally because for me it is overused by William Shakespeare.

To be honest here the plot of this play is pretty generic William Shakespeare plot about love, battle and the huge tragedy at the end which of course is death.

The plot is almost the same as King Lear. It talks about the same things but this one is a little bit worse than King Lear was.

For me personally this play felt like an echo of some of his better works which really failed to accomplish what his better works had accomplish.

All of the characters in this play are pretty much the same person dressed as different people. All of the characters in this play are super annoying and boring which really made it impossible for me to like it.

I Give Play 1 / 5

“The Winter’s Tale” By William Shakespeare Review

The jealous King Leontes falsely accuse his wife Hermione of infidelity with his best friend, and she dies. Leontes exiles his newborn daughter Perdita, who is raised by shepherds for sixteen years and falls in love with the son of Leontes’ friend.

The plot in this play is pretty generic William Shakespeare plot about love, battle and the huge tragedy at the end which of course is death. This play has the same problem as the majority of the plays written by William Shakespeare which is that it is poorly presented to us. Which really sucks because it could really be very good.

The plot was so poorly done here that I ended up DNF-ing this play after reading something around 30% of it. The plot pretty much was very boring and uninteresting.

The writing style here was typical William Shakespeare writing with the fun poetic language in it. Which to be honest must have been the best part about this play.

The characters here were very uninteresting and boring but also at the same time very annoying. Most of the characters here felt like the same person dressed as different people. Which really made me hate this play even more because it was very confusing keeping track of who was who in this play.

“The Comedy of Errors” By William Shakespeare Review

Two sets of twins are separated at birth by a storm at sea: a pair of masters (both named Antipholus) and a pair of servants (both named Dromio). Years later, the Antipholus-and-Dromio pair raised in Syracuse happen to visit Ephesus, where the respective twins reside—providing the basis for ongoing incidents of mistaken identity, within a lively plot of quarrels, arrests, and a grand courtroom denouement.

Another decent play from no other than William Shakespeare. It was one of the best plays by William Shakespeare I’ve read so far but of course I still have to read the more popular plays written by William Shakespeare.

This play for the most part is enjoyable and well-crafted but still I personally felt like there was something missing here and I just couldn’t quite really get into it the way I wanted.

This play was really a quick read which really made me like it a little bit more in a way.

The writing style here was pretty good but it still felt really old and it wasn’t quite retable because it was written so long ago.

I Give This Play 3 / 5

“Titus Andronicus” By William Shakespeare Review

Subsequent generations have struggled with its bold confrontation of violence but in the 20th and 21st centuries the play has chimed with audiences again, perhaps because of its simultaneously shocking and playful approach to violent revenge and bodily mutilation.

This is another pretty okay play written by no other than William Shakespeare. Even thou I personally am not the biggest fans of plays in general.

The plot here was the same kind of gruesome play by William Shakespeare and you sort of can tell that was written him because we don’t get an happy ending here and the plot in general goes pretty dark.

Overall the plot in this play is a bloody mess. People who enjoy slasher movies will also enjoy this play because there is a lot happening.

The writing style here was typical William Shakespeare and you can really feel the old time vibe from reading it which really in my opinion adds to the entire plot.

This play also gave me the biggest Pulp fiction of the 1600s vibe which really enjoyed because I love Quentin Tarantino’s movies. And this sort of Pulp fiction vibe made me gives this play some extra points.
