“The Premature Burial” By Edgar Allan Poe Review

This one is about being buried alive, which was a common fear in this period. It is also about natural fears of people, and how other individuals’ experiences can taint how we live our own lives.

To be honest it doesn’t get more Edgar Allan Poe than this short story. And I need to give this short story points for giving my huge Edgar Allan Poe vibes.

The writing style in this short story was amazing, it truly shows how create of a writer Edgar Allan Poe was. The gothic writing style comes very forward in this one which I truly loved.

The whole plot is amazing, because the idea if being buried alive always scared me and I sometimes thought about it. However there were some plot holes in it, but the plot holes aren’t big enough to ruin the story for most of you.

This one isn’t scary but it is definitely very creepy because I think that everyone is afraid of being buried alive and have thought about it at some point in their life.

If you are like me, this short story when you finish it, will leave you with a feeling of unease.

I give this short story 3 / 5

“Von Kempelen and His Discovery” By Edgar Allan Poe Review.

It described the discovery by a German chemist, Baron Von Kempelen, of an alchemical process to transform lead into gold. The account concluded by noting that news of the discovery had already caused a two hundred per cent leap in the price of lead in Europe.

So unfortunately this one was another boring and pretty much uninteresting story from Edgar Allan Poe.

I have really mixed feeling on this one. To me it feels like 1 star is not enough but 2 stars is too much for this one.

The writing style is pretty much enjoyable for the most part but it does have some weak parts.

To me this story feels like Edgar Allan Poe tries to fool a little but his readers which at least didn’t go so well with me.

For the most part this one was a scientific story about lead being turned to gold. I like the basic idea of this story but it could have been done so much better.

In this one Edgar Allan Poe also shows that he was a little bit of a jokester. Which really surprised me.

I give this novel 1 / 5

“The Statement of Randolph Carter” By HP Lovecraft Review

This short story is about the first person testimony of the titular character, who has been found wandering through swampland in an amnesiac shock.

The whole plot of this short story was pretty good, but for me it was something missing in the plot so that’s why it didn’t get the full score in the plot category. But since you might know, I’m very picky so it isn’t anything new when I don’t give a high score to books, short stories and poems.

The writing style was for me the best part about this short story. It was amazing and it almost felt like HP Lovecraft was in your head and knew what words to use in purpose to have you involved in the story.

And the fact that this short story is sort of a horror drama got me involved even more in the short story. Horror drama is the only drama I’m into and the fact that this short story gives us that is amazing.

For the most part this short story was an enjoyable read, however it had some very boring parts and there were some plot holes for me at least.

There was some creepy moments in this one but come on, it could have been more of them to be honest. Or at least I watched too many horror movies and read too many horror books which made me immune to creepy and scary stuff.

I give this short story 1 / 5

“Landor’s Cottage” By Edgar Allan Poe Review.

Landor’s Cottage describes an idyllic house that the narrator stumbles upon on a country walk. Poe was inspired in this account by his final home, a farmhouse in New York State (now part of the Bronx) where he took up residence in 1846. The house has become a museum dedicated to Edgar Allan Poe.

So I had some expectations for this story which it didn’t live up to and it makes me sad. Because there are a lots of stories and poems from Edgar Allan Poe which I didn’t give so high rating to and I want give them a high rating but most of them doesn’t seem to me like they are good enough to give them higher rating.

The writing for the most part was the best part of this story but it could have been so much better than it was.

Gotta say that this one is full of too long descriptions of almost everything which you can find in this story.

This story is about nature and a quaint cottage that the narrator happens upon. I like the idea behind it but it wasn’t used as it could have been.

I give this novel 1 / 5

“Mellonta Tauta” By Edgar Allan Poe Review.

The narrator, Pundit, embarks on a balloon trip to outer space in the year of 2848 and writes a letter narrating the details of his journey. The name that Poe gives his narrator suggests that he is a pundit, a knower of sublime truth.

Gotta be honest here with you and say that this one is one of these absurd tales. But I didn’t had fun with it and I for the most part enjoyed it.

However the writing style wasn’t that great as you could expect from Edgar Allan Poe aka the king og gothic literature.

When I was reading this tale I just could stop myself from reading this tale in Robert Downey JR voice. It is weird, I know.

For the most part this tale is a dry satirical story. However this tale didn’t interest me so much as I was expecting it would.

For me this tale wasn’t interesting so much and as good as it could be if Edgar Allan Poe did put some extra work into it.

I give this novel 1 / 5

“The Domain of Arnheim” By Edgar Allan Poe Review.

“The Domain of Arnheim” is a tale of a fantastically wealthy man called “Ellison” who desires to express “the true character, the august aims, the supreme majesty and dignity of the poetic sentiment”. He achieves his goal through creating “Arnheim”, a castle and landscape-garden of supreme loveliness.

For the most part this whole tale is about a man named Ellison and about his travel journey which was actually a good idea for a story. But again Edgar Allan Poe did not use the full potential of this story.

The writing style was pretty decent and for the most part the best thing in this whole story.

This one is pretty much hard to pin down. But it wasn’t that great so that ti could give it even 2 stars.

Don’t get me wrong I had a little bit of fun while reading this story but it could have been better than it actually was.

I give this novel 1 / 5

“Nothing Gold Can Stay” By Robert Frost Review

This poem explores the idea that nothing good or precious can last forever by using nature and The Garden of Eden as metaphors for cycles of life and death and the loss of innocence.

This poem is a 8 line poem written by no other than Robert Frost the master of poems. There is only one guy who writes better poems than Edgar Allan Poe and it is Robert Frost.

The entire uses throughout the entire poem the imagery of sunrise’s impact on Nature. Just as a metaphor for life and the loss of beauty and innocence as time goes by. And I truly loved that.

The writing style is hard to review in poems because they are short and poems have a specific tactic they are written in. But if we compare the writing style with in this poem with other poems than we will see that the writing style here was amazing and extremely good.

This poem sort of connects the dots between the concept of Experience in every aspect of its being. And the fact that this poem explains the mysterious and even fantastic transformation which happened within the hour that sunrises come and go really makes this poem very unique and good.

And the mood which this poem has really makes you think about these simple moments like seeing sunrise or sunset and how fast they actually pass.

This poem has also a very good underlying message in it which you realise after you have read the poem and thought about it for a while.

This poem gets 5 / 5

“Dust of snow” By Robert Frost Review

This poem tells that even a simple moment has a large significance.

This was is a pretty decent poem from the goat himself aka Robert Frost.

The writing style here was pretty disappointing because it didn’t quit feel like Robert Frost.

However there are some parts which I didn’t like with this poem which I can’t mention because I don’t want to spoil anything for people who haven’t read it yet.

This poem gets 3 / 5

“The Power of Words” By Edgar Allan Poe Review

This poem focuses on someone who’s exhausted after a long day’s work in an apple orchard. Drifting between wakefulness and sleep, the poem’s speaker replays the day’s events while feeling anxious about all the apples left unpicked.

So today we are talking about Edgar Allan Poe and one of his short stories. This short story is only 2 pages long.

It didn’t quit speak to me but I had fun time reading this short story.

This short story needs to get some extra points for having some biblical reference to God creating the universe. Im very far from being a religious person but I appreciate references to history and what humans have created.

This short story also has another reference to religion which is God needed to use “algebraic analysis” to create the universe and the mathematicians in this poem might be interested in the logical paradox that apparently keeps God happy according to Edgar Allan Poe.

The writing style was pretty okay, but Edgar Allan Poe was Abe to write better poems and short stories than this one.

This poem offers us a very lovely debate about the spiritual philosophy and how it might relate to the inner workings of the world. Which this poem need to get extra points for.

However I had hard time connecting with this story which translates into a low rating with me.

There isn’t a lots of action in this one which may lead some people to not liking it. But I think that many if you will like it.

I give this poem 1 / 5

“Some Words With a Mummy” By Edgar Allan Poe Review

Some Words with a Mummy is a satirical short story by Edgar Allan Poe. Doctor Ponnonner invites the narrator to his home to take part in a mummy unwrapping.

The idea behind this short story was pretty interesting but I feel like it wasn’t used in the way as it could. It sort of had the potential to be better but in my opinion it wasn’t used.

The writing style here wasn’t the best. For the most part the writing style here was pretty okay but Edgar Allan Poe was able to do much better than this one.

And I gotta be honest here with you this short story was packed with Edgar Allan Poe’s dry wit. Which didn’t go so well with me.

I also had hard time connecting with the story which leads to a low rating in my life and my adventure with books, short stories, poems, movies and series.

This story was funny, so it needs to get points for that. There were a very hilarious moment in this story when the modern people of that era which is 19th century, could only find one superiority when compared to the ancient Egyptians which of course is cough drops. I had a good laugh when I read this and I love to have a good laugh while reading something. However this moment has truth to it. Because ancient people were very smart and more advanced than what we give them credit for.

And gotta say that this short story was creative which i like when it happens. So again extra points to this short story.

I give this poem 1 / 5
