“It Grows on You” By Stephen King Review

Stephen King’s unparalleled imagination is in full force in this collection of four unabridged short stories originally found in the classic, Nightmares & Dreamscapes. An all-star cast of readers bring to life these timeless stories from the darkest places.

This short story is included in the “Nightmares and Dreamscapes” which I will be reviewing pretty soon.

To be fully honest here, short stories written by Stephen King always miss the mark with me. I always end up not liking his short stories and I don’t know why it is so.

And this short story isn’t any different from Stephen King’s other short stories ive read in the past.

The characters in this short story in my opinion were very boring and uninteresting.

The plot in this one is meh as well because it was very slow, boring and uninteresting. And to be honest writing I’m writing this review the next day after reading this short story and I cant recall what the short story was about because I just didn’t bother remembering this short story because I didn’t like it so much.

The writing style here in my opinion didn’t feel like something written by the one and only master of horror. But rather by someone who have never written any books or short stories before

“Dolan’s Cadillac” By Stephen King Review

Wealthy crime-boss Jimmy Dolan brutally murders a woman who is scheduled to testify against him, and her husband spends the next seven years plotting his revenge. Haunted by the voice of his dead wife, he will stop at nothing to exact his vengeance and allow his wife to rest in peace.

This short story is included in the “Nightmares and Dreamscapes” which I will be reviewing pretty soon.

“The Flatshare” By Beth O’Leary Review

Tiffy Moore needs a cheap flat, and fast. Leon Twomey works nights and needs cash. Their friends think they’re crazy, but it’s the perfect solution: Leon occupies the one-bed flat while Tiffy’s at work in the day, and she has the run of the place the rest of the time. But with obsessive ex-boyfriends, demanding clients at work, wrongly imprisoned brothers and, of course, the fact that they still haven’t met yet, they’re about to discover that if you want the perfect home you need to throw the rulebook out the window.

I think this book is my final Rodeo with contemporary books because I truly hated this book, and I just very quickly DNF-ed it.

All of the characters in this book annoyed the shit out of me.  Tiffy the main character in this book imbecile who plots all the time how to get back with her ex-boyfriend. Like she honest understand when someone wants to be left alone and not be bothered by you.

The entire plot is made very very badly, to the point where the plot is almost nonexistent because all the shit which doesn’t matter for the main plot keeps getting throw in our faces all the time during reading this book.

This book also talks a lot about emotional abuse amongst other types of abuse which well didn’t go well with me and what I like in books.

To put this book in a very simple term, dont read it because its a waste of time and money. Its very boring, drags for far too long, uninteresting and will torture you a lot.

This book put me in the biggest reading slump ever, I didn’t have so big reading slump ever as I had after reading this book.

This book was a very painful reading to say at the very least.

“Verity” By Colleen Hoover Review

Lowen Ashleigh is a struggling writer on the brink of financial ruin when she accepts the job offer of a lifetime. Jeremy Crawford, husband of bestselling author Verity Crawford, has hired Lowen to complete the remaining books in a successful series his injured wife is unable to finish.

Another book written by Colleen Hoover which I DNF-ed and which was very very bad. Why does so many people love her books so much ? All the books I’ve read written by her and just good for nothing else than to burn them after beating the shit out of them.

The plot in this book was nonexistent and really it was a pure torture trying to read this book, so thats why I DNF-ed it so fast as I did. There are so many red flags in this book about this whole book and how are people liking this book or any of Colleen Hoover’s books? That’s this decades paradox I will never understand.

Did you hear about plot holes in books before ? This book doesn’t have them but instead they have plot craters. Because there are at least 15 plot holes I can tell you about within the first 10 chapters of this book.

The characters here are very very bad, they are selv centered, and they are so shallow, annoying and uninteresting. To me all of the characters felt like the same f-ing character and I just couldn’t tell them apart.

My main reason for hating the characters in this book is when one of the characters attempts to murder 2 people, and the main character acts like that character just eat her ice cream like “its not a big deal”. The main character just justifies the attempt and forgives the character like double murder attempt happens everyday to everyone. Perfectly normal thing isn’t it ? Happens to everyone all the time isn’t it?

The writing style is oh boy, I dont know what to say to not be offensive and keep it under 18+. The best thing I can do is to say that the writing style felt like it was written by a horny 9 year old boy. Which isn’t a good thing when we are talking about books which you want people to like.

Goodreads rank this book as a “thriller” book, but it feels more like “young adult worthy of hell fire” book than anything else than that.

Just writing about this book and Colleen Hoover as a author gets me so so so angry. And the reason behind this is because I hate all over books and I dont understand why people like her so much and why people on Tik Tok hype her books so much because they aren’t worthy of the attention or even space in the book store.

The main problem I have with this book is that it exists. Which it shouldn’t.

“Cinema Speculation” By Quentin Tarantino Review

In addition to being among the most celebrated of contemporary filmmakers, Quentin Tarantino is possibly the most joyously infectious movie lover alive. For years he has touted in interviews his eventual turn to writing books about films. Now, with Cinema Speculation, the time has come, and the results are everything his passionate fans—and all movie lovers—could have hoped for. Organized around key American films from the 1970s, all of which he first saw as a young moviegoer at the time, this book is as intellectually rigorous and insightful as it is rollicking and entertaining. At once film criticism, film theory, a feat of reporting, and wonderful personal history, it is all written in the singular voice recognizable immediately as QT’s and with the rare perspective about cinema possible only from one of the greatest practitioners of the artform ever.

And yet again Ive read another book written by Quentin Tarantino which didn’t work for me. I don’t know why I keep reading his books but I do and each time I end up really not liking his books.

The writing style in this book was okay, but it was far far from being good. The writing style didn’t bother me so much as other things which I will talk about in this review.

The reason why I didn’t like this book was because this book is the constant commentary on movies, tv, directing etc. you know all the things it takes to make a movie in Hollywood.

Don’t get me wrong I like Quentin Tarantino’s movies but reading an entire book about his movie and directing opinions isn’t for me. Especially if you look at the fact that he swears a lot in this book. Again don’t get me wrong, I have no problem with people using “bad language” but still if you gonna use “bad words” keep it to a minimum since its a nonfiction book not a rap song.

In this book the author make some very harsh person critiques like being ugly, fat and some other insults which I think you can think about.

There were are a time when he talked about people with various disabilities like down syndrome amongst other and he called them “mongoloids” or even “pin heads” which is very very rude and would ruin your career if you weren’t making billions of money for the worst perverts and criminal on all earth which of course is Hollywood.

“Sleeping Beauties” By Stephen King & Owen King Review

In a future so real and near it might be now, something happens when women go to sleep; they become shrouded in a cocoon-like gauze. If they are awakened, and the gauze wrapping their bodies is disturbed or violated, the women become feral and spectacularly violent; and while they sleep they go to another place. The men of our world are abandoned, left to their increasingly primal devices. One woman, however, the mysterious Evie, is immune to the blessing or curse of the sleeping disease. Is Evie a medical anomaly to be studied, or is she a demon who must be slain?

Ive heard a lot of good things about this book, but after reading it I have to say that it didn’t live up to my expectations for it. And I don’t know how this book was the best horror book of 2017 on Goodreads, because it isn’t even close to being a horror book but rather a fantasy book in my opinion.

The plot in this book was very uninteresting for me personally and I just had a very hard time trying to finish this book and not DNF it after reading 15% of it. Because I found it very boring and there wasn’t anything slightly interesting which took place in this book.

The characters here were so very bad, like they almost didn’t feel like characters even partly created by Stephen King, which really pissed me off because this book has to be the book I dislike the most (so far) coming from Stephen King.

All of the characters in this book are very shallow, boring and have no personality which makes them blend into each other and makes them hard to tell apart from the rest of the trashy characters in this book.

The characters in this book are very stereotypical, which really made me laugh at some moments during the process of reading this book.

The characters here really made me realize that all the newer works from Stephen King I’ve read after like the 2000 just doesn’t do the same thing to me as the OG Stephen King books. And it made me think more and more about that Stephen King might be one of those authors who gets worse and worse as a storyteller with more books published.

The writing style in this book was something I didn’t expecting to come from the master of horror himself. I get that this book was written by Stephen and Owen King, two different persons. The writing style was consistent and didn’t change itself depending who wrote what but still it was very bad and trashy even.

The writing style actually made the entire experience of reading this book worse for me because the entire time I was reading this book I was thinking “this book wasn’t written by Stephen King”. This is because the writing style is so different in this book from all of the rest Stephen King’s books even those once I didn’t like and commented on that the writing style in them were bad.  But the writing style in this book hits a new low for Stephen King in my opinion.

Another thing which made me annoyed while reading this book was the dialogues in this book, which sometimes would get ridiculously bad.

The last thing about this book which annoyed me here was that this book was way too long than it needed to be. This book is over 700 pages long (depending on what version of this book you get) and very easily it could have been cut in half and do much better job than it did with over 700 pages

However the premise which this book has is good and for sure very unique which I haven’t come across of yet, but just the way it is presented to us mixed with very bad characters and bad writing style just makes it a good book to start a fire with rather than actually reading it.

The fact that this book was cowritten by Stephen King’s son, Owen King, really made me so uninterested in other writing stuff by Owen King which I don’t think I’m gonna be getting into any time soon.

“Tess of the D’Urbervilles” By Thomas Hardy Review

When Tess Durbeyfield is driven by family poverty to claim kinship with the wealthy D’Urbervilles and seek a portion of their family fortune, meeting her ‘cousin’ Alec proves to be her downfall. A very different man, Angel Clare, seems to offer her love and salvation, but Tess must choose whether to reveal her past or remain silent in the hope of a peaceful future.

Ive heard a lot of good about Thomas Hardy, and thats why I picked up this book to just my journey with this author.

There are very few characters in this book, and we’ll those characters we get in this book are bad and I just couldn’t care less about them than I did. This is because I found every character in this book to be very annoying and I just wanted to slap the shit out of every single character in this book.

The main character in this book which is Tess was a very silly character, and because of that fact I found it hard to like her or even relate to her in any way. So its safe to say that I dint like her. But also she was the victim in every possible situation she was in, which really annoyed me because I don’t like those kind of characters which always portray themselves as victims every single time something happens to them.

However gave this book for challenging in a way and talking about double standards between men and females which I personally am not a huge fan off.

The plot itself in this book was very depressing and well there isn’t a lot of good things happening in this book. However the plot had shown really good the religious and social undertones of the time this book is sett in which made me like this book a little bit more.

While reading this book I got a huge feeling that the author didn’t knew a lot abut women because of he made the female characters as. Which really disappointed me because all of the female characters in this book we’re very bad and had the same problems as Tess have.

The writing style here was meh, to be honest. I cant compare the writing style to any other books written by the author because this book was the first book I’ve read by the author so I don’t have knowledge about other books about this author.

But the writing style in this book was not okay at the very least. It was like the author just throw at us words without thinking a lot about them. Which really didn’t sit well with me personally.

“The Alpha Enigma” By W. Michael Gear Review

Dr. Timothy Ryan, head of the military psychiatric unit at Grantham Barracks, is meeting a new patient, a woman known as Prisoner Alpha. As she is being transferred, they are attacked by assassins, barely escaping with their lives. One shooter vanishes, leaving behind a dead companion unlike anyone Ryan has ever seen.

I didn’t know anything about this book before getting into it, and because of it I didn’t have any expectations for this book. Which I think its important to say before we officially begin this review of this book.

The beginning of this book was somehow interesting, it for sure piqued my interesting and made me think that this book could be very interesting if its properly begins, which didn’t happen.

However I need to give this book some few extra points for having a very intriguing premise for a plot. It didn’t live up to the premise but it still at the core of it, this book had a good and intriguing intriguing.

The chapters in this book were very short, which really made me annoyed because the new chapter would start with different perspectives before you could figure out what was happening in the previous chapter you were reading.

The characters here in my opinion were very shallow, and flat. And I just couldn’t find the will in myself to care about them or to even like them. Which is a big no-no for me personally. Because for me personally the characters are as important as the plot and tension in a book.

One of the main things which really pissed me off in this book, were that the female characters were portrayed as sex objects rather than humans. The female characters would get called very frequently as “bitch”, “full of sex-appeal” and whatever else you can imagine.

The writing style here felt like it was written by a first time writer, but from what ive seen on Goodreads the author of this book have written a handful of books before this one, so I don’t know why this book felt like it was the first book of this author.

“Pinocchio” By Carlo Collodi Review

This is the story of Pinocchio, filled with harrowing yet inspiring adventures. Carved by a poor man named Geppetto, Pinocchio is a wooden puppet that comes to life. He soon leaves his maker and commences a journey of misadventures.

Again reading a classic clearly meant for children as an adult is not the greatest decision to be made. Because I didn’t like it and I found it not as good as it would have been if I had read this book as a child.

Before picking up this book I was expecting to get a lot of nostalgia from this book because I liked a lot as a child watching the Pinocchio movie. But it didn’t happen, instead I was reminded how stupid Pinocchio was and I really made an opinion that if he was a real human child he wouldn’t survive for 2 minutes without an adult supervision.

My opinion is probably very unpopular because a lot of people seem to love this book, which my opinion doesn’t align with. Because I didn’t like this book after reading it.

Before reading this book you should be warned that this book isn’t as fairy tale like as the Disney movie, instead this book has a lot of violent moments which involve cut-throat, thieves, bullies, murder, imprisonment and other violent things. So maybe giving this book to an young child maybe want be such as good thing.

But don’t get me wrong this book had some good moments here and there but those moments were very rare and they weren’t long enough for me to truly give this book an higher rating than I did.

The characters here were not the best ive seen. I personally liked the father of Pinocchio but we didn’t get enough of him in this book which really made me sad. As of the other characters including Pinocchio were very arrogant, stupid and they didn’t use their brains a lot in my opinion.

The writing style here was actually surprisingly good because I wasn’t excepting such a good writing style from a classic book meant for children because my journey with those books tend to be very rocky.

“The Silent Patient” By Alex Michaelides Review

Alicia Berenson’s life is seemingly perfect. A famous painter married to an in-demand fashion photographer, she lives in a grand house with big windows overlooking a park in one of London’s most desirable areas. One evening her husband Gabriel returns home late from a fashion shoot, and Alicia shoots him five times in the face, and then never speaks another word.

I personally had high hopes for this book because I’ve heard so much good about this book. And well after reading this book I have to say that this book isn’t as good as people say it is.

While reading this book I needed to force myself to finish this book because even thou I didn’t like this book, I don’t like DNF-ing books.

The characters in this book were very bad, the main character here Theo Faber, was the best character in this entire book because he had much more personality than the other characters in this book, but I still didn’t like him. Because at one point in this book he finds out that his wife have cheated on him countless times but he still didn’t face the issue with his wife but rather swept it under the rug like it was his wife forgetting to throw out a candy wrapper.

All the female characters in this book were full of stereotypes which most of the times lead to things involving misogyny. Which of course is a big no for me personally.

The plot in this book was bad, it had few good moments in the beginning but the further you get into this book the worse it becomes. The plot in this book was for the most part very flat, shallow and uninteresting which is a really bad combination of a what a plot can be.

The beginning of this book was actually interesting in a way, but as said above, the further you got into this book the more you wanted to throw this book into a fire and ask yourself why you spend time and money on this book.

The ending here was very terrible, because the whole book was building onto the feeling that the ending will be incredible and big, but when you get to the ending you get very disappointed and you are like “thats what happened ? That’s bull shit”.

The writing style in this book felt like I was written by a teenager who wanted to be the next Stephen King. The writing style was very straight forward and it was leaving nothing to wonder about but rather it told us “thats how it is, the end of the story”.
