“Israfel” By Edgar Allan Poe Review

This poem is about the angel Israfel who is mentioned in the Qua’rn as having the sweetest voice of all God’s creatures. Edgar Allan Poe ends this poem by stating if he and the angel switched places, he would be the one with the sweetest voice and Israfel wouldn’t sing as well.

This poem is far from a good poem but it also is not a super bad poem. I personally would call it a decent poem, but I know that Edgar Allan Poe was able to do a much better work than this one.

This poem is quick and easy to read. It also involves some great lines in it but that isn’t enough to make this poem to a good poem.

I would say that this poem is worth reading, but it is far away from a must read if you are interested in reading some Edgar Allan Poe if you haven’t so far.

This poem is for the most part written about the angel from the Koran person named Israfel.

The writing style is far from great, it’s not even okay. Which is surprising because we are talking about something which was written by Edgar Allan Poe.

I give this poem 1 / 5

“To Helen” By Edgar Allan Poe Review

This poem is about an allusion-rich poem that depicts the poet’s love for an older woman through the image of Helen of Troy. The speaker compares the mother of a close friend, Jane Stanard, to Helen throughout the three stanzas of ‘To Helen’.

This one again is another beautiful love poem from Edgar Allan Poe.

This one has oozed with some dark mixed with moody melancholy which in the end is what Edgar Allan Poe is famous for.

I need to say that in this one there are definite hints and sparks of hope that love can bring.

This poem is a quick and easy small poem.

The writing style is amazing which is pretty much the only good thing about this poem in my opinion.

I give this poem 1 / 5

“The Last Days of Jack Sparks” By Jason Arnopp Review

Jack Sparks died while writing this book. It was no secret that journalist Jack Sparks had been researching the occult for his new book. No stranger to controversy, he’d already triggered a furious Twitter storm by mocking an exorcism he witnessed. Then there was that video: forty seconds of chilling footage that Jack repeatedly claimed was not of his making, yet was posted from his own YouTube account. Nobody knew what happened to Jack in the days that followed, until now.

I personally had high expectations for this book which it didn’t live up to.

This book is sort of a horror and paranomal book, which had the potential to be good but wasn’t that. It would be much better if we first got to know Jack and his investigation and then throughout his brother which is also in this book we would learn what have happened to him.

I need to give this book points for being funny and the fact that I personally could relate to Jack at the beginning.

The story itself was amazing but wasn’t used in the right way as I metioned above. The story had the potential to create this book one of the best horror books but all we got is a skeleton of a story.

Story started off right up my alley and I thought that I will love it. But after around 80 pages all I wanted is the book to end as fast as possible. An Italian exorcism that Jack gets permission to watch for his next book, the whole principle of the story sounds very interesting, but we as readers need much more than just a good idea for a book.

The main character Jack, was at the begining an amzing character he was sort of a jerk and a huge skeptic in the paranormal which I also am so it made it very easy to releate to him. But after around 100 pages he became more and more annoying. And the rest of the characters in this book was sort of just there to fill the story.

This book was definitely an odd book which had a big potential but it wasn’t scary or even close to it. So this book won’t get points for that.

The writing style was okay, but it could be better than it was. There were points in this book where the writing style was insufferable.

The ending is sort of hard to describe or say anything about without spoling anything for you. All I can say is that it was weird.

Overall this book was entertaining at times but it lacks elements which would make this book good or anthing close to it.

I give this book 1 / 5

“Alien” By Alan Dean Foster Review

Based on the screenplay by Dan O’Bannon. The crew of the spaceship Nostromo wake from cryogenic sleep to distress signals from an unknown planet. One is attacked when they investigate a derelict alien craft. Safely on their way back to Sol, none foresee the real horror about to begin.

So another boring science fiction book about aliens killing everyone on board of a space ship.

I need to say that I’m not a fan og science fiction genre no matter if we are talking about books, movies or video games. The science fiction genre is not something for me.

This book is the first Alien Movie Novelisations, which isn’t that great as the movie itself as you can expect. To be honest here with you the movie wins over this book in every single way you can imagine to look at it.

The writing style is boring and very poorly used. Its also very simplistic and it feels like it was written by a high school students writing this book in a huge rush.

When it comes to the scary part of this book when the Alien is chasing and killing every human on board the ship. Then you have to know that it wasn’t scary, a kid in the kindergarten would be scared and nobody else pretty much.

The characters were very badly done. The same characters were much better in the movie than they were in this book.

I give this book 1 / 5

“Song” by Edgar Allan Poe Review

This one was another quick poem to read by Edgar Allan Poe.

I need to say that I’ve enjoyed this one a lots more than I have expected that I would.

There were many times where this poem made me feel like it was written by an art student who have written it for his crush.

It was an okay poem but I’ve read so many poems and tales from Edgar Allan Poe that I know that he can do a much better job than this poem.

This poem is quite beautiful when it comes to the language and imagery.

I give this poem 1 / 5

“Al Aaraaf” by Edgar Allan Poe Review

“Al Aaraaf” is the longest poem Poe wrote and was inspired by Tycho Brahe’s discovery of a supernova back in 1572 which was visible for about seventeen months. Poe identified this nova with Al Aaraaf, a star that was the place between paradise and hell.

Before we go into this review I need to be honest with you about the fact that I don’t have a clue what the poem supposed to be about.

Dont get me wrong it was eloquently and gorgeously written. Because you know Edgar Allan Poe have written it.

After some time spent thinking I have understood that this poem was about 2 spiritual beings who fall in love with each other but it also was about  the consequences which come from these 2 spiritual beings falling in love which each other.

This poem gets 1 / 5

“The Colloquy of Monos and Una” By Edgar Allan Poe Review

It focuses on two people, who are apparently in love, discussing their passing away from the mortal plane. Monos died first and describes being conscious of his surrounding from his death until after his burial. He describes feeling Una by his side all the way to feeling the worms slowly devour his empty body.

This one is all about the conversation between two lovers who have gone beyond the grave. I don’t know why but this one did not appeal to me which is really strange because I usually like stories like this one.

However I need to give this story points for being uniquely imagined and very creative in its own way.

This one have all the points which a good gothic story should have which of course is the gothic vibe, romance, dark mood and a deeper meaning behind it.

And to be honest but I got Friedrich Nietzsche vibes from this one which was really strange for me. Which of course I really dont mind.

The whole potential of this story for me at least wasn’t used as it could have been. So this is the reason why I give this one so low rating.

The writing style is far from good or even okay. It almost doesn’t feel like Edgar Allan Poe have written it.

I give this poem 1 / 5

“The Island of the Fay” By Edgar Allan Poe Review

The story is told by an anonymous narrator, who chances upon a “profusely verdured” islet and fancies that a fairy is present on the island.

This was another pretty decent and lovely story from none other than Edgar Allan Poe.

But as someone who have read almost every poem and story from Edgar Allan Poe I need to say that he was able to do a much better work than he did on this one. But it also could be me being to harsh to this short story.

The writing style has some beautiful moments but for the most part the writing style is pretty boring and uninteresting.

However the take which Edgar Allan Poe is taking on the the fair folk is very enjoyable and interesting. But he didn’t use the full potential of this story which it could very easily have.

The first part of this short story is more or less a dull and not what Ive expected but it sort of gets better when the ending comes closer and closer. And the imagery at the end which Edgar Allan Poe is giving us was beautiful.

This one didn’t quite work for me. I really wanted to like it but there are a lots of short stories and poems from Edgar Allan Poe which simply doesn’t work for me for some reason.

I give this poem 1 / 5

“Psychopata” By Klaudia Muniak Review

At the BCT research and development center, tests are being carried out on a modern, non-invasive method of fighting brain tumors. Maja Lipska, a young researcher, achieves spectacular success. After a banquet at the end of one of the conferences, he wakes up on a park bench. To her horror, she discovers that she has no idea what she has been doing for the last thirty-six hours. At the same time, young women are brutally murdered in Krakow. All the clues point to the operation of a serial killer. The investigation is carried out by Maja’s partner, who does not like her reckless behavior. When one day at the BTC center the body of one of the workers is found, it seems that it is another victim of the “Krakow cutthroat”.

Before we start this review it is important to mention that at the time of writting this review this book is only available in Polish but lets hope that it will change soon.

First of all I need to give this book points for having a good idea behind it and that the main character was acctually amazing and written very well.

This book was my first medical thriller so I didnt have high expection for it, but still it had disapointed me. The whole story we got here is just a skeleton and nothing more than that.

Characters in this book was pretty decent. The main character was good and there were some good characters and some less good characters in this book. I mentioned it before in other reviews but the quality will always win over quantity. So it would be much better if this book had less characters but good characters. All characters were difficult to associate with.

There are things which really throw off me at least. Which I cant really mention without spoiling anything for you guys so I wont do that.

This book could be longer and have more descirptions, details and longer process than it acutally had.

Medical experiments and serial killer does usuallly the work for me when it comes to me liking a book but not in this case. Because the whole potential of this book wasnt used as it could have been.

For the most part this book as a whole was super annoying to say at least. Because of the drama which was created by the main character and that the whole potential wasnt used.

The beginning of the ending was pretty good but it quickly turned into complet trash and nothing more than that. If you are like me and you have watched dozens and dozens thriller movies and read dozens and dozens thriller book you will more or less expect it or expect something close it.

I give this book 1 / 5
