“The Morning After I Killed Myself” by Anne Katheryn Hawley Review

Last night I killed myself. Coz I thought that killing myself would put an end to my pain’ Don’t we realize the value of the things we have AFTER we’ve lost them? Isn’t it human tendency? That’s exactly what has happened with Myra. At 16, Myra’s life is a complete mess. She hasn’t got the chance to breathe properly from the time she turned 12, and now she has no hopes left. She kills herself. Now. She’s dead. But. She wants to live. It’s after this realization that she sits down to write her story: her last realization: ‘THE MORNING AFTER I KILLED MYSELF’.

When you look at the whole meaning behind this poem then you will see the beauty of it especially when you are like me and you like / love poems and books who deals with suicidal thoughts. But when you look at the poem itself without analysing it you will see that the potential of this poem wasn’t used.

This poem is deeply representative of the intimate nature our lives have in the environment and life around us. So it needs to get points for that, but still it is far away from making this poem to a good piece of work.

However this poem also needs to get its points for the way the speaker selflessly relates to them showed a wise and poignant look at how much she was, herself, the shining beacon in all of that glory.

The deeper meaning of this poem as I said above somewhere, is brilliant. Because it makes you think that maybe i should still fight when you are dealing with suicidal thoughts. And when you are not dealing with suicidal thoughts this poem really brings you in the thought process of someone who might be dealing with suicidal thoughts or deep depression.

However there are parts in this poem where it might provoke a negative response from some readers. But again it goes to individuals and their perspectives and their opinions about literature and poems.

But whats really good with this poem is that focuses on particulars and at the small pieces and moments in our day to day life which we don’t appreciate until they are gone.  And it is also important to mention here that this poem isn’t trying to explain universal love or beauty or truth.

The writing itself could be much better than it actually was in this poem, because there are times where the writing was super poor and it seemed like it was writing by a high school student who was trying to pass the class for the semester.

I give this poem 1 / 5

“Catching Fire” by Suzanne Collins Review

Against all odds, Katniss Everdeen has survived the Hunger Games. She and fellow District 12 tribute Peeta Mellark are miraculously still alive. Katniss should be relieved, happy even. Yet nothing is the way Katniss wishes it to be. Gale holds her at an icy distance. Peeta has turned his back on her completely. And there are whispers of a rebellion against the Capitol – a rebellion that Katniss and Peeta may have helped create. Much to her shock, Katniss has fueled an unrest that she’s afraid she cannot stop. And what scares her even more is that she’s not entirely convinced she should try. As time draws near for Katniss and Peeta to visit the districts on the Capitol’s cruel Victory Tour, the stakes are higher than ever. If they can’t prove, without a shadow of a doubt, that they are lost in their love for each other, the consequences will be horrifying. Katniss is about to be tested as never before.

The second book in “The Hunger Games” trilogy. And its getting downhill.

There were obvious that this book was heavily targeting toward the Twilight crowd. And it is also a sign that you should stop here and don’t read the last book.

The characters are even more annoying than in the first book. like Katniss was in this book a huge dick and she was selfish. Katniss and Peeta feels almost too perfect for the games. Katniss is the perfect hunter and Peeta is the perfect person to get people on his side. You know what I mean?

In the end this book lacks charm, engagement and the unique part. This book is a typical book written just for the cash.

This book would be much better if it went deeper, explaining a little more about the history of the games etc. And basically it would be better if this book was adding more to the story, not just telling what had happened after the events of the first book and nothing more than that.

The beginning was some kind of fine and similar to the first book in the trilogy but after that the book goes downhill. And it basically ends up with Katniss being an asshole at the end.

Once again the author fails to explain more about the hunger game itself which Katniss and Peeta are in. This annoy me because the author spends 80 pages talking about what costumes Katniss and Peeta got but when it comes to the game itself the author uses like 10 pages on it and after that it is all over.

The writing style and descriptions in this book are better than in the first book. But still it wasn’t on the level with Stephen King or Dan Brown. There are a lots of missing things which could improve the writing in this book. When it comes to the twist in the middle, was kind of a drag and lazy.

“Ghosts” by Henrik Ibsen Review

98Ghosts is the story of Helen Alving, a widow who is haunted by the many mistresses of her deceased husband and by her son who has inherited syphilis from his philandering father. Ghosts is a scathing indictment of Victorian society in which Ibsen refutes the notion that if one simply fulfills one’s duty rather than following one’s desires then a good and noble life will be achieved. Scandalous in its day for its frank discussion of venereal disease and marriage infidelity, Ghosts remains to this day an intense psychological drama and sharp social criticism.

Another play written by Henrik Ibsen, which is over 130 years old.

First of all the characters in this one are shit. They are super flat and for the most part they are hard to tell them apart. None of them are unique but they are all boring as fuck. I personally feel like Oswald is the most likeable character in this whole play. Yes he is the typical rich white kid but still there is something to him.

The plot itself was okay. It isn’t something to talk about, it is simply something you read and just forget about it. The whole plot felt like it was something a person would tell on their deathbed.

Drama is a big part of this play. This drama for the most part is involving the main character which is haunted by the lovers which her husband had

This whole play might have been something big and good back in the day but it isn’t that today. Because there are a lot of stereotypes like women should be at home and clean the house and men should be in town and work..

"The Tattooist of Auschwitz" By Heather Morris Review

87In April 1942, Lale Sokolov, a Slovakian Jew, is forcibly transported to the concentration camps at Auschwitz-Birkenau. When his captors discover that he speaks several languages, he is put to work as a Tätowierer (the German word for tattooist), tasked with permanently marking his fellow prisoners. One day in July 1942, Lale, prisoner 32407, comforts a trembling young woman waiting in line to have the number 34902 tattooed onto her arm. Her name is Gita, and in that first encounter, Lale vows to somehow survive the camp and marry her.

There are hundreds, if not thousands, of Holocaust fiction books in the English language alone. So I would recommend to not pick up this one.

It is a story based of true people and true events but this book have contains couple of errors and information inconsistent with the some facts. This book also contains over-interpretations, misinterpretations and understatements on which the overall inauthentic picture of the camp reality is built. If you don’t believe me on this one, feel free the feuds between the author of this book and Auschwitz Museum. And there are also a disclaimer at the museum (which I have visited) that this book contains several errors in it as well as some falls information.

Because of these errors in information I cant give this book a good review. This is because people who read read historical books wants to educate themselves and not just read something which was made up by the author.

However in the end this book doesn’t fail to show us the sad reality of Holocaust, Concentration camps and evilness of Nazi soldiers.

Some of the descriptions in this book are were shitty and very poorly done. It was almost as if the author didn’t bother to put all the work she could have into this book.

There were no depth in the emotions. And the characters were written as they had only one thing good and bad about them. I hate when this happens, because I want to see the characters as realistic as possible. And as we all know in the real world no one is only shades of bad or good.

The writing style could have been better. There were a lot of times when this book went like “he did this, and then he did that”.And it was sort of written as a fictional story when we look at the fals informations and errors in the book itself

The dialogs in this book for the most part felt empty, ridiculous and overall shallow. It was almost like the author just wanted to fill up the empty space on paper. Overall the dialgos felt like they were written by 12 year old kid.

The descriptions in this book feels like the author wanted to just be done with them and move on. There weren’t a lot of details in the descriptions. For the most part the descriptions were like “he had a black and white cloths on him”

"The Amityville Horror" by Jay Anson Review

28 Days of Terror in a House Possessed by Evil Spirits In December 1975, the Lutz family moved into their dream home, the same home where Ronald DeFeo had murdered his parents, brothers and sisters just one year earlier. The psychic phenomena that followed created the most terrifying experience the Lutz family had ever encountered, forcing them to flee the house in 28 days, convinced that it was possessed by evil spirits.

So this book is described as one of American horror classic, which I personally wouldn’t put it there. This whole book is based on the experience which the Lutz family had in a house located on Ocean Avenue 112. When it comes to this topic you believe in it or you think that it is completely made up by someone.

Some events in this book are very similar to something which would happen in a haunted mansion in Disney Land or in a Conjuring movie. You know like flying candlesticks etc.

I personally would categorize this book as a horror novel than a book based on true events, because demons, ghouls, specters or whatever you want to call it doesn’t exist. As you can see I am one of these people who believes that this book was just a get rich scheme made by the Lutz family.

The writing style is very similar to something which a 12-year old would write. Its very so poorly written and mostly the language used in this book is pretty much a language which again a 12 year old would use.

Cliffhangers are recurring theme in this book. There are a lot of them in this book.

Characters are more or less based of real people. But they aren’t likeable at all and they are again really poorly written.

If you don’t read this book, you wont miss out on anything important.

Scariness level in this book are none existing. I never been in Disneyland but I think that the haunted house or mansion they have are much scarier than this book.

"James Dean. Żyć szybko" by Philippe Besson Review

95James Dean is a meteor, myth, actor of three movies (Rebel Without a Cause, East of Eden, Giant), a young man with an angelic face, behind which also seems to be a part of a demon. It is known that he was nearsighted, that he lost his mother early, that he was close to a crime, that he loved both women and men. What made him a symbol of a generation? Philippe Besson decided to capture his personality, get closer to him, almost touch him. James Dean. Living fast is therefore an impressionistic portrait, which is to separate truth from falsehood, but myth has its own rules. The author plays various characters from the actor’s immediate environment and the biggest star of the time, to talk about him

Its a non-fiction written as a imagine create by the author. If this doesn’t throw you off, then keep reading and maybe read this book. It’s important to say that at the time of writing this book is only avaible in Polish and French.

What had annoyed me personally reading this book was that the author claims that this book is non-fiction but in the end it is the opposite. He creates stories about what people who know him thought about James Dean. There are also some chapters written from James Dean’s perspective which is another read flag why you shouldn’t read this book.

Some fans of James Dean may find this book rude or inappropriate. But that’s the world we live in.

This book would have been better if the author had  cut out the chapters written from James Dean’s perspective. What I mean by that is that chapters written from perspective of people who were around James Dean is fine for the most part.

The writing style is boring and out of place for a topic like this, because we don’t know what James Dean felt like in important moments in his life because we haven’t meet him and we didn’t talk to him. So we can’t write a non fiction book as a fiction book.

Overall this book is short, text itself is pretty big and you can literally read it in one sitting and pretty much you can read this book in one shitting.

"Assassin’s Creed: The Official Movie Novelization" by Christie Golden Review

97We work in the dark to serve the light. We are assassins. Through a revolutionary technology that unlocks his genetic memories, Callum Lynch experiences the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. Callum discovers he is descended from a mysterious secret society, the Assassins, and amasses incredible knowledge and skills to take on the oppressive and powerful Templar organization in the present day

So this book is the official movie novelization of the “Assassin’s Creed” and oh boy I thought that the movie was bad. The book wasn’t better. I understand the idea of making a movie based of a book but I don’t understand the idea of writing a book based of a movie. But the movie had at Michael Fassbender.

The writing style was bad, bland and pretty much stripped of emotion even during tragic or emotionally charged moments.  The writing being so bad may have something to do with the fact that the author is not the same person who wrote the first books in this series.

I need to also point out that this book changes perspective a lot which may be very confusing for some people. There are also a lot of jumping back and forth between real world and the world which machines create.

The most of the characters in this book are so poorly written that it is hard to care about them. Like every fucking characters come out of nowhere and disappears without any reason just like a ghost would do in a horror movie. There are also plenty of characters who are boring because the author didn’t bother to tell us more about them and why we should care about them or like them

For the most part this book is full of cliffhangers because most of the chapter ends with them. And when something important happens the perspective changes to another character and you need to wait like couple of chapters for the important situation to continue. There are couple of plot holes it this book. And some of the are left unexplained at the end.

Watching the movie before you read the book will make the whole experience with this book a little bit better.

I give this book 1 / 5

"Everything, Everything" by Nicola Yoon Review

95Her disease is as rare as it is famous. It’s a form of Severe Combined Immunodeficiency, which means that she is allergic to the world. She don’t leave her house and have not left the house in fifteen years. The only people she ever see are her mom and her nurse, Carla. But then one day, a moving truck arrives. New next door neighbors. She look out the window, and she see him. He’s tall, lean and wearing all black. His name is Olly. She wants to learn everything about him.

This book is a romantic / drama book, meant for teens. So if you are into YA books which are about teens falling in love then maybe you should give this book a shot if you haven’t by far.

The characters yeah the characters. The main characters are pretty much the typical teen characters which we can see in every movie and series now on days. The mother of the main character, she is toxic a lot. And the boy next door is a kind of guy who likes to flex.

The deceptions of the characters are flat and not much to talk about. In the end it doesn’t help that the characters are boring and not unique at all.

However, I need to give this book point for being fun to read. And all these illustrations of emails, text messages etc makes it even more fun to read, and it sort of got me involved in the story.

It’s important to say that throughout this book we are given clues to how it might end. I personally didn’t see them until very end.

When you look at this book as a whole thing that you will see that this book is much more cheesy than it is sweet or good read. And if you like me, who hates young adult books who are cheesy at this level, you will straight away hate this book.

The writing style isn’t something which I personally have expected. It is okay but I thought it would be some kind of better.  There were times when the writing style basically went like “i can talk to him on the Internet for hours but when we are here face to face I can’t talk to him”.

Overall this book is typical young adult book. Which involves an abusive father, hot boy next door, loner girl, toxic mother, taking a trip to Hawai, loving gay friend and all that.

If we go to the main character for the last time to talk about her I need to say that she is taking all the fucking bad decisions ever. It feels like she was born yesterday or that she was born without brain cells.

“Messi. Mały chłopiec, który stał się wielkim piłkarzem.” By Yvette Żółtowska-Darska Review

96He was nine years old when he smashed the bathroom glass in order to catch the match. Ten – when it stopped growing. Thirteen – when he left his family home and moved to another continent. Today, admired by millions of people around the world, Messi is a touching story about football, but not only. Also of unprecedented talent and great modesty. About the fact that nothing comes easy. Finally – about the fact that it is always worth dreaming.

This biography is meant for kids, just for the record. It involves a lot of photos and illustrations which really makes it fun to read.

At the time of writing this review, this book is only available in polish. Which is bad because a lot of you who are reading this will be not able to read it at least for now at least.

This book is a quick read because as you may imagine, authors needs to keep it sort for kids to actually read it. You can probably read this book in one sitting, which is pretty cool.

The writing style is not what you are probably used to. Because it is written in a such way that a child would find it interesting. Language itself is also very easy, and words here or on the level with 3 grade or so.

I give this book 1 / 5

"Elevation" By Stephen King Review

98Although Scott Carey doesn’t look any different, he’s been steadily losing weight. There are a couple of other odd things, too. He weighs the same in his clothes and out of them, no matter how heavy they are. Scott doesn’t want to be poked and prodded. He mostly just wants someone else to know, and he trusts Doctor Bob Ellis.

This book is one of the worst books written by Stephen King. But after all with was fun to get away for a little bit from the classic Stephen King novels.

This book is very short which makes it to a very quick read. But if you are someone like me and loves the classic Stephen King, you will find this book a form of torture.

The writing had surprised me because it is a typical Stephen King writing. The writing style in this book feels like it was written bu a 15-year-old.

When it comes to the story, then all I can say about it is that it is pretty weak and boring. It would be much better if there were some action added into this story. In this book we have only one main problem and it would be better if the main character was facing multiple challenges.

The characters are oh boy. I mean the characters in this book are well done, but it would be much better if there were something more added to them. And I personally found some stereotypes in this book which doesn’t work in 2020. One of these stereotypes was that the LGBT girl in this book, are always pissed off and are mean as fuck to every guy she meets.

I personally felt like the story was missing something. I can’t name what it is, but there is something missing. There are also couple of plot wholes in this book.

The die hard fans of Stephen King (myself included), will not like this book. Because it is far away from the typically stuff which Stephen King usually writes.

I give this book 1 / 5
