“Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Last Straw” By Jeff Kinney Review

Let’s face it: Greg Heffley will never change his wimpy ways. Somebody just needs to explain that to Greg’s father. You see, Frank Heffley actually thinks he can get his son to toughen up, and he enlists Greg in organized sports and other “manly” endeavors. Of course, Greg is easily able to sidestep his father’s efforts to change him. But when Greg’s dad threatens to send him to military academy, Greg realizes he has to shape up or get shipped out.

This book is the 3rd book in the “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” series. If you read the 2 previous book reviews of the 2 first book in this series then you will know that I loved this book when I was a child so that’s the reason I decided to re-read this book series. 

To be fully honest here I remembered reading the 2 first books in this series when I was a child but I didn’t remember reading this one. But I must have read them because I have all the books up to book 10 in this series which is where I stoped reading this series when I was a kid.

This book just as the pervious 2 books have some pretty funny and good moments, which made me smirk. But I need to admit that this book was less fun to read now than when I was a child.

In my opinion the simple illustrations we get in this book just as in the previous 2 books really add more points to this book and the previous 2 books.

However this book is not so much about Greg himself but rather about his dad, and how dumb his father is. The whole plot in this book is that Greg’s dad wants to send Greg to a military academy for the summer because his son isn’t into playing sports but rather into playing video games or watching TV.

The writing style in this book is pretty simple to be fully honest here. Which really makes it to a book which everyone can read no matter their age.

Secrets have a way of getting out, especially when a diary is involved. Whatever you do, don’t ask Greg Heffley how he spent his summer vacation, because he definitely doesn’t want to talk about it.  As Greg enters the new school year, he’s eager to put the past three months behind him and one event in particular. Unfortunately for Greg, his older brother, Rodrick, knows all about the incident Greg wants to keep under wraps. But secrets have a way of getting out . . . especially when a diary is involved. 

When I was a kid, I completely loved this series, so that’s why I decided to re-read this series.

Of course this book is very far away from being an masterpiece. But if you are looking for a book where you can turn off your brain and still have a good time then. This book is the go-to here.

The plot is very easy, and it doesn’t need any brain power to enjoy this book and have decent time with it.

There is one big thing which I’ve noticed and this thing is that this book isn’t as silly as the first book in this series was. Which in a way made me enjoy this book more.

Everything which happens in this book is from Greg’s perspective so we get to learn everything from him. So in a way we can’t fully judge the characters if we like them or not because they are shown to us from Greg’s opinion and perspective.

The first book in this series focused on the school, most of the time. But this book focuses more on Greg’s relationship with his older brother Rodrick.

After reading the first two book in this series I’ve relied that Greg is an idiot, but I still find it entertaining seeing what dumb stuff he does.

As someone who watched the movie when it first came out I need to say that I didn’t have any expectations for this book because I wasn’t the biggest fan of the movie. However I am a huge fan of Quentin Tarantino which made me very disappointed in this book because in a way I was expecting something more from this book. 

The plot here follows many characters and it is quite confusing because it switched characters without any heads up but after a while you get used to it but still it was very confusing and annoying.

We are given a lots of information in this book and most of this information is very useless and overwhelming. It feels like Quentin Tarantino is throwing random names and information at us without using it later in this book just to fill up the page and have this book longer.

This book isn’t a novel nor novelisation of a movie it is rather a movie memorabilia which really was the worst choice which Quentin Tarantino could have done. This book feels like a very weak first draft of a movie or a book.

The writing style here was okay for the most part but it didn’t feel like something written by Quentin Tarantino.

The characters here are super boring and really uninteresting. The only character Ive almost liked was Cliff but mostly I didn’t care for all of the characters in this book. Because they are super flat and boring.

“Angels & Demons” By Dan Brown Review

Frankly I don’t know why I read this book, since I didn’t have any interested in it other than wondering if the hype of it was really worth a try. And after reading it I can say that it isn’t worth it.

This book was more of a conspiracy theories talk rather than a mystery book. However as a fan of conspiracy theories myself, I need to say that I liked this aspect of this book.

However the beginning of this book was slow, and there was a point when I became very uninterested but I continued to read.

The characters in this book feels very annoying, if they were really human beings I would haver a really hard time getting along with them. The characters were entreating at times but overall they were more the pain in the ass rather than anything else.

The writing style were okay for the most part, however it was weak at times. And we were told more about the Illuminati and the Vatican and its church system it felt more like a boring religious lesson or a conspiracy theory lesson made by the crazy teacher from elementary school. 

The descriptions in this book were probably the best part about this book, because they really gave you a clear picture of the scenario and I came to enjoy it a lot. 

My main problems with this book, and why I came to like it so little is because this book is full with stereotypical characters and tedious and very dubious historical references. But also that the 600 pages of this book can be summarised in one sentence. Which is an absurd story which is carried out smoothly behind the scenes of the Vatican.

“So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish” By Douglas Adams Review

Back on Earth with nothing more to show for his long, strange trip through time and space than a ratty towel and a plastic shopping bag, Arthur Dent is ready to believe that the past eight years were all just a figment of his stressed-out imagination. But a gift-wrapped fishbowl with a cryptic inscription, the mysterious disappearance of Earth’s dolphins, and the discovery of his battered copy of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy all conspire to give Arthur the sneaking suspicion that something otherworldly is indeed going on.

To be fully honest this book is the weakest book in this series so far. Of course I have one book and on short story left in this series so everything can happen in that time. 

My main problem with this book is that its no longer a sci-fi book as the rest of this series but instead it turned out to be a love story book. Which really annoyed me.

The characters here, I came to hate them in this book. I also found them to be very boring and awkward at times which really pissed me off because I wanted to like them again after the previous book rather than to dislike them even more.

The writing style are worse than in the previous book. Which really made me even more bored of this book. 

In my opinion this book was very boring.

“King Richard The Third” By William Shakespeare Review

Jealous and crippled, Richard of Gloucester wants to be King of England and uses manipulation and deceit to achieve his goal. He murders his brothers, nephews, and any opposition to become King Richard III. In the end, Henry of Richmond raises an army, kills Richard in battle, and becomes King Henry VII.

Yet again another play which didn’t work for me but to be honest I am not the biggest fan of plays in general so it might be me and not this play.

For the most part this play was so boring and really I just couldn’t keep up with the characters of who was who because they just kept bleeding with each for me. 

This play has the William Shakespeare’s wit and sarcasm but still I just couldn’t force myself to like this play. 

The writing style here was pretty okay for the most part but I know that William Shakespeare was capable of much better work than what he did on this one.

Both the plot and all the characters in this play are very erratic and disappointing for me personally.

“Henry VIII” By William Shakespeare Review

It is a story of a ruthless race to power and the desire for an heir. The Duke of Norfolk tells Buckingham of the meeting between Henry VIII and Francis I of France at the Field of the Cloth of Gold. On the instigation of Cardinal Wolsey, Buckingham is arrested for high treason.

This one was pretty typical play by William Shakespeare. Involving royalty, battle and drama.

The plot here is very typical William Shakespeare. There is not much good in it in my opinion but still it was somehow okay read even thou I wasn’t the biggest fan of it but it wasn’t bad neither. 

The entire plot here is pretty much Henry VIII leaving his wife and the church for his lover named Anne Bullen. Which really made me uninterested in a way because its like the generic plot for William Shakespeare.

The writing style here is very typical William Shakespeare writing style. Which means that there is old English, old sayings there and you would know if you read any plans by plays by William Shakespeare.

I personally ended DNF-ing this play just because I became so uninterested and bored of this play that I just couldn’t keep on. But that’s on me because I don’t like plays.

“King Henry VI, Part 2” By William Shakespeare Review

The second part of this play is the same as the first one, it is just as bad as the first one. 

This one feels like an unfinished play which really annoyed me a lot because it really killed the entire play for me.

This play has the same problem as the first one which is that if you don’t know anything about British royal family back in the day then you we struggle throughout this entire play and it is be torture. 

There are many good characters but they really didn’t made me like them or made me care for them. I appreciate very character in this play but to be fully honest here I didn’t care for me at all.

The writing style was pretty good, I’m still pretty fresh to William Shakespeare so I can’t compare it to some of his other works but it was good enough I assume. 

For me personally it was pretty boring and it was too many of names to follow and it makes even harder that I’m not familiar with the British royal family from hundreds of years ago.

“Henry VI Part I” By William Shakespeare Review

A boy king, Henry VI, is on the English throne, and the indomitable Talbot leads the English cause in France. Joan La Pucelle (Joan of Arc), who becomes captain of the French, claims to be chosen by the Virgin Mary to liberate France. The English, however, consider her a sensual witch.

I gotta say that I was disappointed in this play because I was expecting something more than death and speeches which this play is full of. 

This play start at the funeral of Henry V which to me felt like it started mid-story which really confused me. 

I feel like this play would have been soo much better if Jean of Arc was the main character in this play because he was easily the most interesting character in this entire play and of course he is seen as the tragic heroine character. 

There are many good characters but they really didn’t made me like them or made me care for them. I appreciate very character in this play but to be fully honest here I didn’t care for me at all.

This play is mostly exposition and battles and preparations for what’s to come which really made it to a torture to read for me. 

The writing style was pretty good, I’m still pretty fresh to William Shakespeare so I can’t compare it to some of his other works but it was good enough I assume. 

For me personally it was pretty boring and it was too many of names to follow and it makes even harder that I’m not familiar with the British royal family from hundreds of years ago.

“Dune” By Frank Herbert Review

Set on the desert planet Arrakis, Dune is the story of the boy Paul Atreides, heir to a noble family tasked with ruling an inhospitable world where the only thing of value is the “spice” melange, a drug capable of extending life and enhancing consciousness. Coveted across the known universe, melange is a prize worth killing for.

Ive heard so much good about this book which it didn’t live up to which really had disappointed me because I really wanted to like this one as well. 

I need to be honest that I was bored the entire time I spend reading this book which really made it to a torture. Of course there have been many good moments in this book which made me slightly interested but these moments came very going to an end every time they showed up.

In my opinion there were too many descriptions in this book which really made it even more boring for me. But also the most annoying thing with this book for me was he way Paul’s mom describing him because it was super weird and somehow uncomfortable at times. 

This book feels horribly outdated when you read this book for the first time in 2020s as I did. This book was also at times almost incomprehensible.  The reason why I say that this book is outdated is because it is prim and  the scientific dialogue in this book are so heavy that makes you realise very quick that no one would ever actually speak like that now. 

The reason why I give this book 2 stars and not 1 star is because that this book is the foundation for the modern science fiction in a way. 

The beginning of this book was very good but the further we went into this book the worse it got and it ended up that I just DNF-ed this book when I was 68 pages from the end because I just couldn’t do it anymore. 

The writing style here was very old and you can clearly see that it was written over 50 years ago to say at least
