In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV. Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives alone with her mother and younger sister, regards it as a death sentence when she steps forward to take her sister’s place in the Games. But Katniss has been close to dead before—and survival, for her, is second nature. Without really meaning to, she becomes a contender. But if she is to win, she will have to start making choices that weight survival against humanity and life against love.
Let me just start this review by saying that this whole series or at least the first book is way overhyped. And I personally wouldn’t recommend this series to anyone who is over the age of 20.
It is an enjoyable read, but there are a lot of stuff missing. There were a lot of silly and cringe parts.
The characters are okay. Katinss is okay as a main character but she is also annoying at time. She annoying by acting like a 5-year-old at times. However we need to appreciate her ruthlessness and that she wanted to protect her sister. But in the end that Suzanne Collins could use some more effort to creating these characters. Because we just cant care about the characters in this book.
The writing style is okay for the most parts. I mean this wasn’t something to brag about because we can read it but no one said that we will enjoy it. It felt sometimes that the writing was something a teen in high school had written for an boring assignment.
However the dystopian setting together with the rebellions rising up makes this whole franchise more interesting.
