“Lionizing” By Edgar Allan Poe Review

A young man is born with a wonderful nose, and takes up the study of Nosology, only to hurt his career and fame by shooting another man’s nose off during a duel

This story was weird, scary a little bit but also humorous, which is a big no no to mix humour with horror.

The one thing which everyone will enjoy with this story is pretty much the odd abundance of nose puns. Which is the best part of this story.

The writing style was pretty meh. It wasn’t super bad but it neither was okay.

I need to give this story points for kind of being funny at times but it really did take the wind out of this story. And it just created mixed feeling about story for me.

I give this poem 1 / 5

“The Business Man” By Edgar Allan Poe Review

Its about a businessman boasting of his accomplishments. It was published in February 1840 in Burton’s Gentleman’s Magazine. The story questions the concept of a self-made man.

Again another humorous bull shit story from Edgar Allan Poe.

This story has no flow in it and it is super hard to understand whats the meaning with this one.

The characters in this one are also super forgettable. And the writing style is again meh.

In the end this story was nothing but super boring. Though it had some interesting fragments.

I give this poem 1 / 5

“The Assignation” By Edgar Allan Poe Review

“The Assignation,” one of Edgar A. Poe’s earliest stories is, in fact, the first true murder mystery ever written—though it was not recognized as a mystery at all for some 170 years. The accepted theory was that the story is a romance, in which the two lovers killed themselves in a suicide pact

This one lacks the background knowledge to the whole story. Which as you can guess takes the wind out of this story.

The writing style was pretty decent but not much to talk about. It wasn’t super bad but it wasn’t neither good as in “The Raven” or some other works written by Edgar Allan Poe.

This story gives you a lots of questions but almost none answers which doesn’t work well for me at least.

For the most part it is an interesting story which takes place in Venice.

It also have the gothic vibe to it which I love, however the conversations about art which are pretty frequent in this story sort of kills a little bit the gothic vibe.

I give this poem 1 / 5

“The Facts in the Case of M. Valdemar” By Edgar Allan Poe Review

The narrator presents the facts of the extraordinary case of his friend Ernest Valdemar, which have incited public discussion. He is interested in mesmerism, a pseudoscience involving bringing a patient into a hypnagogic state by the influence of animal magnetism, a process that later developed into hypnotism.

This one I need to say that was pretty much the most eeriest and most morbid stories from Edgar Allan Poe that I’ve read. This one pretty bizarre and I didn’t expect a story like this from Edgar Allan Poe

But to be fully honest with you I’m not sure what the point of this story was.

The writing style was amazing though. It was vivid and very eerie.

Yet again I have very mixed feelings about another Edgar Allan Poe story.

This story needs to get points for having the eerie, gothic and dark vibe to it. Which every Edgar Allan Poe fan will appreciate.

I give this poem 2 / 5

“The Thousand-and-Second Tale of Scheherazade” By Edgar Allan Poe Review

In the story, on the thousand and second night after her wedding, Scheherazade tells her husband the King a story in which Sinbad travels the world on what he believes to be the back of a monster. Sinbad is not aware that he is really traveling on a 19th-century steamship.

This one was a silly and absurd short story which was pretty interesting.

This one was another humorous story. Which again pretty much killed the vibe of the creepy and scary.

The writing style in this one was pretty good which pretty much surprised me here.

The imagination here was very on point.

The beginning was good but it sort of went downhill from there.

However I still have a mixed feeling about this one which might explained the low rating on this one.

This short story isn’t something which is the typical Edgar Allan Poe story. This one is neither a type of story that people think of when someone mentions Edgar Allan Poe.

I give this poem 2 / 5

“The System of Doctor Tarr and Professor Fether” By Edgar Allan Poe Review

The story follows an unnamed narrator who visits a mental institution in southern France known for a revolutionary new method of treating mental illnesses called the “system of soothing”.

This story needs to get points for being unique in its theme throughout the whole story.

This one is sort of a mix between being humorous but also very creepy at times.

This one also has the 19th century vibe to it which I personally love a lot.

It was very interesting because I’m a huge fan of horror story which involves mental asylums and some shit going down there.

The writing style was pretty poor if you ask me. Which have disappointed me.

The reason why I have rated this short story so low is because it was way too humorous and it sort of killed the scary vibe to the whole story.

I give this poem 2 / 5

“The Purloined Letter” By Edgar Allan Poe Review

It stars C. Auguste Dupin, a detective from France. In the story, a letter goes missing and is being used to blackmail an unnamed woman.

This one is the third and last short story in the C. Auguste Dupin Series which is of course written by Edgar Allan Poe.

This one is sort of a crime story with gothic and dark vibes to it. But it isn’t fully a crime story which you probably imagine.

For the most part it is a pretty simple and short crime story. The mystery in this short story is pretty much way too simple and more or less boring.

This one isn’t neither very thrilling or engaging or interesting.

This one is hard to pin down, because you either like it or not like it.

The writing style was simple and at moments very boring which really disappointed me.

I give this poem 2 / 5

“Tamerlane” By Edgar Allan Poe Review

This one is a melancholy poem narrated by the ruler, Timur, as he unburdens himself at the end of his life to a priest. Timur recounts his happy childhood and the love that he enjoyed then, and expresses regret that he traded that love for the ambition that took him far from home and made him a great ruler.

This one was for the most part very weak and boring but it still had some good parts which made me give it 2 stars instead of 1 star.

The writing style in this one was amazing as you can expect from Edgar Allan Poe.

The prose itself behind this one was awesome, it was dope and it had the gothic vibe to it.

This one is for sure a must read for anyone who calls themselves a “Edgar Allan Poe fan”.

The fact that Edgar Allan Poe was only 18 years old when this one was published gives this story some extra points because it like seeing the journey of the gothic king.

I give this poem 2 / 5

“Bridal Ballad” By Edgar Allan Poe Review

This one focuses on the themes of marriage, love, loss and a desire for happiness. It also concentrates on the symbolism of a wedding ring as finality as well as the despair and hopelessness that comes with it.

This little poem is sort of a sweet poem about lost love and lost futures.

I enjoyed this one quite a lot but this one wasn’t that good in the end. Which really leaves me conflicted.

The writing style was pretty basic in this one, you will get the Edgar Allan Poe vibe to it but Edgar Allan Poe was able to do a much better work than this one.

In the end this one is a short and enjoyable read.

I give this poem 2 / 5

“Evening Star” By Edgar Allan Poe Review

In this poem, the narrator looks twoards the sky and sees coldness, except one “Proud Evening Star” which has a “distant fire” which the other stars lack. The lyric poem was influenced by Thomas Moore’s “While Gazing on the Moon’s Light”.

This one is very short and very easy to understand. And for the most part it is an enjoyable read.

This poem had some good lines but the lines which didn’t go so well with me takes the cake here.

This poem needs to get points for the gothic master turning his eyes onto stars and writes a poem about stars.

The writing style was pretty much the worst part about this poem because there times where i felt like the lines where put together randomly.

I give this poem 2 / 5
