“Loss of Breath” By Edgar Allan Poe Review

A satirical tale, the story is narrated by Mr. Lackobreath who recounts his attempt to find and reclaim his lost breath, which he had literally misplaced. Throughout his journey, he is repeatedly dismembered and disfigured, falsely assumed to be dead, hanged, locked away, and prematurely interred.

This short story is sort of ghoulish and absurd during the entire story.

This one is sort of a story that throws together experiences to leave you hooked and curious to see how everything plays out.

The writing style is for the most part the best thing about this story.

However the moment I thought that Edgar Allan Poe’s stories and poem cant get any weirder than I come across this short story and I get surprised.

To be honest this story is a nonsensical short story.  And it is sort of an unusual little story.

“Four Beasts in One: The Homo-Cameleopard” By Edgar Allan Poe Review

Edgar Allan Poe’s combination of stories about the freaks of a mad ancient monarch and the caricatures of a nineteenth-century king of France is a happy one; the result is one of the best of the tales of the grotesque. The cardinal idea is the baseness of the ancient mob — shared by its modern counterpart.

It’s another short story from Edgar Allan Poe which you can read in 15 minutes or so.

This one was very strange and very hard to review or describe without mentioning any spoilers.

This one was for sure very unique. But to be fair every Edgar Allan Poe  is sort of unique in a way or another.

For the most part this story was boring for almost the entire story. But it this might be because it was way too short and it would be better if we got more story into it and not just the brief view of the story.

“The Unparalleled Adventure of One Hans Pfaall” By Edgar Allan Poe Review

Hans Pfaall, a bankrupt bellows-mender from Rotterdam, thinks up an ingenious scheme to escape from his dreary existence

This one was for the most part way too detailed with the scientific information and a lots of numbers which was boring because of the way Edgar Allan Poe have presented this to us.

The ending was the best part of this whole story because of the way Edgar Allan Poe at the end presents the entire story as hoax and nothing more than that.

The theme of this story was awesome. But the way it was presented to us was not that awesome.

If you are like me you will also kind of get annoyed at the callousness of the protagonist with the animals he took together.

There were times where the story was interesting but parts where this story was boring was more frequent.

“Silence: A Fable” By Edgar Allan Poe Review

The story is told by a Demon, who sits and observes the actions of a solitary man in a desolate, terrifying land. Through the tale, the Demon attempts to provoke a reaction in the man, detailing his manipulations of the hellish, nightmarish landscape around the man.

This one is kind of pretty hard to review because I had really hard time connecting with this story and make up my mind if I liked it or not.

This story was about a demon and a human talk in some enchanted land. And the demon seems to change without any reason.

For the most part the writing style is fine but Edgar Allan Poe was able to do a much better job than this one.

The moral itself in this story wasn’t quite so clear as in the rest of Edgar Allan Poe’s stories and poems.

It isn’t scary but it is sort of haunting tale in its own way.

For the most part it is an enjoyable, quick and interesting.

“The Duc de L’Omelette” By Edgar Allan Poe Review

The Duc de L’Omelette dies while dining on an ortolan, and finds himself in hell: an apartment filled with various works of art that has a window overlooking a fiery landscape. Face to face with Satan, the Duc manages to avoid damnation by cheating him at a game of cards.

So this one was another pretty basic short story from Edgar Allan Poe.

This story is sort of a story which requires more effort to be put it than it gave back to you in the form of being a good read.

In this story Edgar Allan Poe satirises high society by having the “Duc de L’Omelette” die of a paroxysm because his dinner which wasn’t wrapped quite correctly.

As someone who have read this short story twice I need to say that I really had hard time to understand what really happen in this story.

I also dont know a word in French, so it took the wind out of it for me a little bit.

“A Tale of Jerusalem” By Edgar Allan Poe Review

This is a strange and wildly ahistorical tale. It speaks of three Jewish temple workers, one identified as a priest, who are upon a battlement looking over the army of Pompey surrounding the city. They have made deal with Pompey to purchase a temple sacrifice.

So this one was a tale which was of negligible value, but still amusing and pretty enjoyable. However it wasn’t so good as many other work written by Edgar Allan Poe.

The whole storyline in this short story was pretty weak and it almost seemed like it was very much like it was frivolously put together. What I’m trying to say is that it lacks depth and the characters are bland.

This short story was filled with vivid historical atmosphere but also with mercifully brief.

This short story involves sort of a trick played upon the besieged Jews by the besieging Romans.

To be honest this tale was not at all what I had expected from a short story written by Edgar Allan Poe.

“To Helen” By Edgar Allan Poe Review

“To Helen” is the first of two poems to carry that name written by Edgar Allan Poe. The 15-line poem was written in honor of Jane Stanard, the mother of a childhood friend.

This one was pretty basic poem from Edgar Allan Poe which wasn’t that great as some other poems and short stories written by Edgar Allan Poe.

This poem however needs to get points for the part of being sort of oozed with the dark, moody melancholy and gothic vibe to it.

This poem feels also like it is sort of related to Greece and Rome.

The main problem with this poem is that it is stereotypical “love” poem which I am not a fan of. I would rather watch Twilight on repeat for a week than read a stereotypical “love” poetry. And Twilight in my opinion is one of the worst movies ever created.

“The Philosophy of Furniture” By Edgar Allan Poe Review

The essay is an unusual work by Poe, whose better-known works include horror tales like “The Tell-Tale Heart”. The essay presents Edgar Allan Poe’s theories on interior decorating.

So this one is an essay and not a short story or a poem.

The beginning of this essay was kind of funny and weird in a way. It was funny because of the way Edgar Allan Poe was describes how different cultures decorate.

When we come nearer the end in this essay the whole thing becomes very boring because of the way Edgar Allan Poe was describing the way of furniture and homes.

But it was also in a way interesting because from this essay we learned more about Edgar Allan Poe’s personal views on furniture but arguments are lacking.

The writing style was pretty basic and for sure Edgar Allan Poe was able to write better than what he was giving us in this one.

This essay didn’t have anything grim or dark in it.

“How to Write a Blackwood Article” By Edgar Allan Poe Review

This one has some very vivid and sudden images which made me laugh.

While reading this one I got a feeling that it was written as an inside joke or something close to it.

This one seems like Edgar Allan Poe tried to be funny. And I’m not the biggest fan when Edgar Allan Poe does that.

In this story we sort of listen to various newspaper editors which are telling the narrator columnist to do something fantastical as “killing herself”.

The writing style in this one was sort of very familiar to the writing styles of Kant and Hegel.

“The Mystery of Marie Rogêt” By Edgar Allan Poe Review

The story follows the formula Edgar Allan Poe devised for The Murders in the Rue Morgue. An un-named narrator presents the hero-detective Dupin as a somewhat world-weary bohemian with an outstanding intellect. Dupin is then landed with the difficult problem of a crime which the police cannot solve.

So this story was sort of the first fictional murder mystery based on the details of a real crime. Which is kind of amazing that the first one comes from the big gun.

This one was based on the news report which might be boring for some.

The narrator in this short stories speculates his opinions without leading anywhere.

This one gives you a detailed analysis on what kind of clothes the dead person was wearing together with how they would have torn different based just on different angles and bullshit like that.

This short story feels like you’re dragging a dead body. But it sort of still got the gothic vibe to it, which this story needs to get some points for.
