Lucy is the first to find the secret of the wardrobe in the professor’s mysterious old house. At first her brothers and sister don’t believe her when she tells of her visit to the land of Narnia. But soon Edmund, then Peter and Susan step through the wardrobe themselves. In Narnia they find a country buried under the evil enchantment of the White Witch. When they meet the Lion Aslan, they realize they’ve been called to a great adventure and bravely join the battle to free Narnia from the Witch’s sinister spell.

I need to admit here that this my first read from the Narnia series, which I have very mixed feelings about because every time I tried to watch the Narnia movies even as a kid, I didn’t like them and never watched a single Narnia movie to the end. But I wanted to give this book series a shot because of the many good things people say about this series. 

The plot in this book is pretty decent. I need to be honest here and say that I almost DNF-ed this book at the beginning, just because of how slow the plot was at the beginning and that I started finding this book interesting enough to not DNF it in the second part of this book. However I need to admit that I’m kinda curious about what will happen next in this series, which of course I’m gonna continue reading because I did like this book overall.

I need to admit that I have pretty mixed feelings about the plot in this book because its very slow at the beginning and the plot made me work for it in the few first chapters of this book. The action in this book takes a long time to actually get interesting and enjoyable. At the same time the plot in this book feels pretty generic fantasy book plot to me personally. It feels like any other fantasy book meant for young adults / children to me personally. I personally tend to me very harsh to fantasy book because I either love them or hate them with no in between those 2, so it could very well be that am too harsh for this book than I need to me. 

However the plot does have some fun, enjoyable and interesting moments throughout this book, which made me want to continue reading this series which of course I’m gonna do as I said above in this review.

This book is a very short one for a fantasy book, since currently most of the fantasy books being written now are well over 600 pages long but this book is roughly 200 pages long. And because this book is as short as it is, it gave me the opportunity to being able to read this book in one day which of course I did, if I remember correctly  I have read this book in like 4 or 5 hours while also taking regular breaks from it.

The characters in this book are kinda all over the place for me personally. We get plenty of characters in this book and looking at the fact that this book is roughly 200 pages long means that we don’t spend long enough time with the characters for me to actually form my own opinion about this characters for myself. 

But I gotta admit that I didn’t like Edmund in this book because of the betrayal he does in this book. At the same time I wasn’t a big fan of Susan and Lucy in this book because they are written in a very sexist way in this book, they don’t do anything in this book other than cry when something bad happens and all the action we see in this book from the 4 siblings comes from Edmund and Peter. But I guess I cant exactly complain about the sexist aspect of this book because it was written and published in 1950 and back then the sexist thing was still going strong back then.

The writing style in this book is pretty old timey which is the main reason why I have so many mixed feelings about this one. Because the old timey language and writing style in this book kept pulling me out of the story at times and made me bored at times. But it could be just me because I’m from Poland and English is my second language and I like to read books in English to improve my skills and English and get used to using it, while reading, writing (like this review) and even speaking it when im at vacation in a different country.
