"The Amityville Horror" by Jay Anson Review

28 Days of Terror in a House Possessed by Evil Spirits In December 1975, the Lutz family moved into their dream home, the same home where Ronald DeFeo had murdered his parents, brothers and sisters just one year earlier. The psychic phenomena that followed created the most terrifying experience the Lutz family had ever encountered, forcing them to flee the house in 28 days, convinced that it was possessed by evil spirits.

So this book is described as one of American horror classic, which I personally wouldn’t put it there. This whole book is based on the experience which the Lutz family had in a house located on Ocean Avenue 112. When it comes to this topic you believe in it or you think that it is completely made up by someone.

Some events in this book are very similar to something which would happen in a haunted mansion in Disney Land or in a Conjuring movie. You know like flying candlesticks etc.

I personally would categorize this book as a horror novel than a book based on true events, because demons, ghouls, specters or whatever you want to call it doesn’t exist. As you can see I am one of these people who believes that this book was just a get rich scheme made by the Lutz family.

The writing style is very similar to something which a 12-year old would write. Its very so poorly written and mostly the language used in this book is pretty much a language which again a 12 year old would use.

Cliffhangers are recurring theme in this book. There are a lot of them in this book.

Characters are more or less based of real people. But they aren’t likeable at all and they are again really poorly written.

If you don’t read this book, you wont miss out on anything important.

Scariness level in this book are none existing. I never been in Disneyland but I think that the haunted house or mansion they have are much scarier than this book.

I give this book 1 / 5

"James Dean. Żyć szybko" by Philippe Besson Review

95James Dean is a meteor, myth, actor of three movies (Rebel Without a Cause, East of Eden, Giant), a young man with an angelic face, behind which also seems to be a part of a demon. It is known that he was nearsighted, that he lost his mother early, that he was close to a crime, that he loved both women and men. What made him a symbol of a generation? Philippe Besson decided to capture his personality, get closer to him, almost touch him. James Dean. Living fast is therefore an impressionistic portrait, which is to separate truth from falsehood, but myth has its own rules. The author plays various characters from the actor’s immediate environment and the biggest star of the time, to talk about him

Its a non-fiction written as a imagine create by the author. If this doesn’t throw you off, then keep reading and maybe read this book. It’s important to say that at the time of writing this book is only avaible in Polish and French.

What had annoyed me personally reading this book was that the author claims that this book is non-fiction but in the end it is the opposite. He creates stories about what people who know him thought about James Dean. There are also some chapters written from James Dean’s perspective which is another read flag why you shouldn’t read this book.

Some fans of James Dean may find this book rude or inappropriate. But that’s the world we live in.

This book would have been better if the author had  cut out the chapters written from James Dean’s perspective. What I mean by that is that chapters written from perspective of people who were around James Dean is fine for the most part.

The writing style is boring and out of place for a topic like this, because we don’t know what James Dean felt like in important moments in his life because we haven’t meet him and we didn’t talk to him. So we can’t write a non fiction book as a fiction book.

Overall this book is short, text itself is pretty big and you can literally read it in one sitting and pretty much you can read this book in one shitting.

"Auschwitz Lullaby" by Mario Escobar Review

96On an otherwise ordinary morning in 1943, Helene Hannemann is preparing her five children for the day when the German police arrive at her home. Helene’s worst fears come true when the police, under strict orders from the SS, demand that her children and husband, all of Romani heritage, be taken into custody. Though Helene is German and safe from the forces invading her home, she refuses to leave her family—sealing her fate in a way she never could have imagined. After a terrifying trek across the continent, Helene and her family arrive at Auschwitz and are thrown into the chaos of the camp. Her husband, Johann, is separated from them, but Helene remains fiercely protective of her children and those around her. When the powers-that-be discover that Helene is not only a German but also a trained nurse, she is forced into service at the camp hospital, which is overseen by the notorious Dr. Mengele himself.

Another book about the about Holocaust and about the World War 2. This is book is a Historical Fiction because there were parts of this book which were changed. However Historical Fiction are much easier to handle than Historical book. This whole book is overall based on events experienced by a family. And it really shows that love can survive everything even the holocaust and the death of a full family. This book really opens up your eyes and it makes you see that the earth is sometimes a place from the darkest nightmares. And to be honest this book changed me a little bit.

It is an emotional read, and sometimes this book is too hard to handle. You need sometimes stop reading and just think over what you just read. Because this book really goes into some very dark places.

The characters was of course more or less based of real person who were killed in the holocaust. And every character in this book was endearing and unforgettable. Every character in this book is very well written and described. And you can’t complain that these characters are poorly done because they aren’t.

The author did an amazing job with bringing the story of Helene Hannemann and her family. This book his heartbreaking and really strong story. Sometimes even too hard to handle as i had mentioned before.

Descriptions of the events in this book are brilliant as well. The size of this book is also good. Because it isn’t too long neither it is too short.

Visiting Auschwitz concentration camp and Auschwitz-Birkenau defiantly helps you to have an understand of the layout of the camp. But this book will work just as fine without visiting Auschwitz.

"Assassin’s Creed: The Official Movie Novelization" by Christie Golden Review

97We work in the dark to serve the light. We are assassins. Through a revolutionary technology that unlocks his genetic memories, Callum Lynch experiences the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. Callum discovers he is descended from a mysterious secret society, the Assassins, and amasses incredible knowledge and skills to take on the oppressive and powerful Templar organization in the present day

So this book is the official movie novelization of the “Assassin’s Creed” and oh boy I thought that the movie was bad. The book wasn’t better. I understand the idea of making a movie based of a book but I don’t understand the idea of writing a book based of a movie. But the movie had at Michael Fassbender.

The writing style was bad, bland and pretty much stripped of emotion even during tragic or emotionally charged moments.  The writing being so bad may have something to do with the fact that the author is not the same person who wrote the first books in this series.

I need to also point out that this book changes perspective a lot which may be very confusing for some people. There are also a lot of jumping back and forth between real world and the world which machines create.

The most of the characters in this book are so poorly written that it is hard to care about them. Like every fucking characters come out of nowhere and disappears without any reason just like a ghost would do in a horror movie. There are also plenty of characters who are boring because the author didn’t bother to tell us more about them and why we should care about them or like them

For the most part this book is full of cliffhangers because most of the chapter ends with them. And when something important happens the perspective changes to another character and you need to wait like couple of chapters for the important situation to continue. There are couple of plot holes it this book. And some of the are left unexplained at the end.

Watching the movie before you read the book will make the whole experience with this book a little bit better.

I give this book 1 / 5

"Frozen Hell" by John W. Campbell Jr. Review

In 1938, acclaimed science fiction author John W. Campbell published the novella Who Goes There?, about a team of scientists in Antarctica who discover and are terrorized by a monstrous, shape-shifting alien entity. The story would later be adapted into John Carpenter’s iconic movie The Thing (following an earlier film adaptation in 1951). The published novella was actually an abridged version of Campbell’s original story, called Frozen Hell, which had to be shortened for publication.

The copy I at least have a super long first word from the publishers about the author and what he wrote before and after this book came out. So it ended about that my copy was 300 pages long but the story itself was 150 pages. However I give my copy extra point for the fancy the illustrations which are pretty much super fun to look when you are read the story.

This book was was published in 1938 and when we look at this book from the 2020 perspective then we will see that this book isn’t that unique after all. Because because there are a lot of books and series / movies which are very similar in plots to this book. But when we look back at 1938 then this whole idea behind the plot was pretty fresh and not so overused as it is today. So keep that in mind.

This book since it was published in 1938 was more or less a part of the origin stories behind the whole alien concept we see today in movies, books and series.

As you can expect the characters in this book are pretty flat and boring. I personally had very hard time to separating them apart, because many of these characters are so much similar in behavior that it makes it hard to say who is who in this book. It almost feels like that the author didn’t care as much about the characters as he did about the whole plot. If you want me to be honest here I need to say that all character in this book feels like just different version of the same person.

The descriptions about the characters aren’t much better from the characters themselves. What the author does with the descriptions about the characters is pretty much “he have blue jeans on, and she have nice shoes on”.

The decisions which are taken by the character feels like decisions taken by a 2 year olds and not like decisions taken by scientist with hopefully some experience.

Writing style is actually good. To be honest the writing the style was the best part of the whole book. The writing style was interesting, and it was keeping me interesting. But there are times where it felt like it was written by a 14 year old.

The dialogs in this book were pretty hard to follow up with, it almost felt like the author smoked too much weed before writing the dialogs in this book. Because there were times where the dialogs on the same page felt like the chapters were separating them.

I give this book 2 / 5

"Becoming" by Michelle Obama Review

2In her memoir, a work of deep reflection and mesmerizing storytelling, Michelle Obama invites readers into her world, chronicling the experiences that have shaped her—from her childhood on the South Side of Chicago to her years as an executive balancing the demands of motherhood and work, to her time spent at the world’s most famous address. With unerring honesty and lively wit, she describes her triumphs and her disappointments, both public and private, telling her full story as she has lived it—in her own words and on her own terms. Warm, wise, and revelatory, Becoming is the deeply personal reckoning of a woman of soul and substance who has steadily defied expectations—and whose story inspires us to do the same

One of the best biographies out there. If you had admired her before reading this book you will admire here even more after reading this book.

The hype about this book is understandable, and it is defiantly worth the cash and time you will use on this book.

If you don’t know much about Michelle Obama, then this book is perfect for you. Even if you are not on the same political side as she and her husband are on. Don’t worry this book isn’t so much about politics as you may think it is. It involves some politics as you can expect from a book written about the first lady. The only thing which is about politics in this book is her experience with the politics.

The writing style in this book feels like not a book but rather as a long, comfortable conversation with Michelle Obama where she is telling you her story. The way she tells her story is just brilliant.

This book doesn’t fail to show that not only is Michelle super smart, charming and a kind human being but it also shows that she has some huge writing and storytelling skills which a lot of authors now on days don’t have.

I appreciate that this book isn’t trying to sell us bull shit, about how clean and not dirty at all the politics is. Michelle Obama is very honest in this book about how it was to be the first lady for 8 years and what she, Barack and their kids went through during this period of time but also before when Barack was running for presidency.

I’m sure if you give this book a chance, it will inspire you at least a little bit. Because it have all things in place of what an inspirational book should have. We cant forget the fact that this book is sort of a powerful, surprising and moving book.

However there were parts in this book which were taking forever to read because they were stretching out more than they needed to. So it would be much better if they were so cut short, because no one wants to read 10 pages about her bus ride to school or something similar to this.

This book shows that Michelle Obama is gifted with her ability to express her own emotions in a writing process. The whole book are written with tremendous insight and sensitivity and from beginning to end it’s artistically rendered with meticulous attention to details.

Michelle Obama really goes into deep with this book. She sort of discuss the thoughts which she had while growing up which was all about “am I good enough?” and so on. In this book also shows that she had you become someone important no matter where you come from, no matter what skin color you have and so on. I feel like this book is something everyone should read.

I give this book 5 / 5

"Blaze" by Richard Bachman AKA Stephen King Review

1Once upon a time, a fellow named Richard Bachman wrote Blaze on an Olivetti typewriter, then turned the machine over to Stephen King, who used it to write Carrie. Bachman died in 1985 (“cancer of the pseudonym”), but this last gripping Bachman novel resurfaced after being hidden away for decades an unforgettable crime story tinged with sadness and suspense. Clayton Blaisdell, Jr., was always a small-time delinquent. None too bright either, thanks to the beatings he got as a kid. Then Blaze met George Rackley, a seasoned pro with a hundred cons and one big idea. The kidnapping should go off without a hitch, with George as the brains behind their dangerous scheme. But there’s only one problem: by the time the deal goes down, Blaze’s partner in crime is dead. Or is he?

Stephen King has ones again shown us that he is one of the greatest authors of all times. It’s kind of mind of how good this book is.

The whole story in this book is just wow. It’s so unique and amazing. Yes it is far from the typical Stephen King novels, but it doesn’t make it any less good. Many die-hard Stephen King fans skip this book and its more or less pointless and stupid. Because this book is good, and you will be surprised how good it is when you give it a shot.

The characters in this are very few of them. And the main character is a giant and a bit slow thinker, but overall he is likeable and pretty good as a main character. There are times when you will feel sad for him

Of course the main character does many stupid things but these things makes even more a likeable character. He does bad things but in his mind he thinks he is doing what he does for the best. His entire life was sort of linked to bad events and throughout his whole life he had only 2 really friends.

There were times while reading when it feels like you are reading something similar to “You” by Caroline Kepnes. This pretty much describes the writing style and how good it is. The writing style in this book is through the roof.

The ending was amazing but if you loved this character throughout the story as I did you will feel sad while reading the ending. Yes it is a sad ending but it is an ending we deserve to end a such good book. The last like 20 – 30 pages you will know that FBI will get some stuff done. But however you will not expect that ending which we got.

Details and descriptions in this book are pretty good. And it almost feels like you are watching a movie because details and descriptions are so good that it makes it as an movie before your eyes. But there are a lot of things which are overused couple times in this book, but these things are very small in the end.

I think that it is important to say that the main character cant sort of deal with the his friend (George), so more or less he is like acting like he didn’t die, and he is sort of hearing his voice in his head and pretending like George is still around and sort of bossing him around. The whole idea behind it is sort of mind blowing and cool. But I guess that some people will not like it. Because of the thing that the main character is imagining George, for some parts of this book you will not know hats happening. Because George will appear and disappear out of nowhere.

I give this book 4 / 5

"Everything, Everything" by Nicola Yoon Review

95Her disease is as rare as it is famous. It’s a form of Severe Combined Immunodeficiency, which means that she is allergic to the world. She don’t leave her house and have not left the house in fifteen years. The only people she ever see are her mom and her nurse, Carla. But then one day, a moving truck arrives. New next door neighbors. She look out the window, and she see him. He’s tall, lean and wearing all black. His name is Olly. She wants to learn everything about him.

This book is a romantic / drama book, meant for teens. So if you are into YA books which are about teens falling in love then maybe you should give this book a shot if you haven’t by far.

The characters yeah the characters. The main characters are pretty much the typical teen characters which we can see in every movie and series now on days. The mother of the main character, she is toxic a lot. And the boy next door is a kind of guy who likes to flex.

The deceptions of the characters are flat and not much to talk about. In the end it doesn’t help that the characters are boring and not unique at all.

However, I need to give this book point for being fun to read. And all these illustrations of emails, text messages etc makes it even more fun to read, and it sort of got me involved in the story.

It’s important to say that throughout this book we are given clues to how it might end. I personally didn’t see them until very end.

When you look at this book as a whole thing that you will see that this book is much more cheesy than it is sweet or good read. And if you like me, who hates young adult books who are cheesy at this level, you will straight away hate this book.

The writing style isn’t something which I personally have expected. It is okay but I thought it would be some kind of better.  There were times when the writing style basically went like “i can talk to him on the Internet for hours but when we are here face to face I can’t talk to him”.

Overall this book is typical young adult book. Which involves an abusive father, hot boy next door, loner girl, toxic mother, taking a trip to Hawai, loving gay friend and all that.

If we go to the main character for the last time to talk about her I need to say that she is taking all the fucking bad decisions ever. It feels like she was born yesterday or that she was born without brain cells.

I give this book 1 / 5

“Messi. Mały chłopiec, który stał się wielkim piłkarzem.” By Yvette Żółtowska-Darska Review

96He was nine years old when he smashed the bathroom glass in order to catch the match. Ten – when it stopped growing. Thirteen – when he left his family home and moved to another continent. Today, admired by millions of people around the world, Messi is a touching story about football, but not only. Also of unprecedented talent and great modesty. About the fact that nothing comes easy. Finally – about the fact that it is always worth dreaming.

This biography is meant for kids, just for the record. It involves a lot of photos and illustrations which really makes it fun to read.

At the time of writing this review, this book is only available in polish. Which is bad because a lot of you who are reading this will be not able to read it at least for now at least.

This book is a quick read because as you may imagine, authors needs to keep it sort for kids to actually read it. You can probably read this book in one sitting, which is pretty cool.

The writing style is not what you are probably used to. Because it is written in a such way that a child would find it interesting. Language itself is also very easy, and words here or on the level with 3 grade or so.

I give this book 1 / 5

«Assassin’s Creed: Renaissance» by Oliver Bowden Review

97Betrayed by the ruling families of Italy, a young man embarks upon an epic quest for vengeance. To eradicate corruption and restore his family’s honour, he will learn the art of the assassins. To his allies, Ezio will become a force for change, fighting for freedom and justice. To his enemies, he will become a threat.

Sometimes writing a book of a video game is a bad idea. However, this book wasn’t that bad as I thought it would be. As long as you have played the games and you are a fan of them, this book will work for you.

This is the first book in the Assassin’s Creed series. If you want to compare this book to the video games than this book is basically Assassin’s Creed II (game) and not the first one as you would think.

This book are a good book, when you want to just turn off your brain and read something which is both fantasy and involves some couple historical figures and events in it.However the most historical events are given to us as memories of the characters which have some bigger part of this book.

In the end this book isn’t a great literature piece. But it is rather a extra content to the video games.

Action in this book are basically the same as it is in Assassin’s Creed II (game), and if you will rather read it than play it than you won’t miss out on anything for the most part.

Characters here are actually better described than in the games. And I liked them much more in this book than in the video games.

The writing style is very poor. But it is sort of how it ends when you write a book based of video games. The best way to describe the writing style is, that it sorts of reminds me of a game narration.

Silly and cringe parts in this book are also on point. I’m not talking about anything else than the dialogs between Ezio and the girl he has a crush on.

The ending is even more silly than the dialogs between Ezio and the girl. It is so silly and cringe that it becomes laughable.

Everyone who is a fan of the video games will more or less appreciate this book, even though it isn’t the best.

Beginning of this book was interesting, the middle was okay, and after this it went completely downhill. However I will say that this book will help you to understand more the games, if you didn’t pay much attention while you were playing or if you don’t remember much from them.

If you like fantasy books with some historical events or figures you will more or less enjoy this book. And you will have a fun time reading this book.

I give this book 2 / 5
