“Assassin’s Apprentice” By Robin Hobb Review

In a faraway land where members of the royal family are named for the virtues they embody, one young boy will become a walking enigma. Born on the wrong side of the sheets, Fitz, son of Chivalry Farseer, is a royal bastard, cast out into the world, friendless and lonely. Only his magical link with animals – the old art known as the Wit – gives him solace and companionship. But the Wit, if used too often, is a perilous magic, and one abhorred by the nobility.

Ive been wanting to get into this series for a while now because ive heard so much good about it, and even my favorite author of all time, George R R Martin have recommended this series and this author on several occasions during interviews. So of course I needed to get into this series at some point. And this year is the time for it.

The plot in this book was very good, but on occasions I found myself bored because at moments the plot would stretch for far too long on events or descriptions which in the end didn’t have anything to say in the major picture.

Even thou the plot has boring and uninteresting parts here and there, the bigger picture of the plot it is still very good. And solely from this book alone I think I found a new author to add to my list of favorite authors, which hasn’t seen much change for at least 2 years.

The characters in this book were very good, which really surprised me a lot because I wasn’t expecting such good characters from an so underrated author as Robin Hobb. Every characters in this book had all unique personalities and something which made them unique in their own way.

I personnel didn’t like a lot of characters in this book, and the beginning I didn’t even like the main character, but the more and more I read, the more and more Ive grown to like the main character. He might be a hard character to like at times, but still he is a good character in my opinion.

The ending was very good, because thats where the most interesting part came into the play, and it sort of doesn’t leave us with a cliffhanger but at the same time it does. Which is a really odd thing, but a thing which I liked very much.

The writing style here, was very good because it was like the author knew what words to use in this book, to fully grab my attention and to not let it go even through the parts which I found boring and / or uninteresting.

I Give This Book 3 / 5

“Clown in a Cornfield” By Adam Cesare Review

Quinn and her father moved to tiny, boring Kettle Springs to find a fresh start. But ever since the Baypen Corn Syrup Factory shut down, Kettle Springs has cracked in half. On one side are the adults, who are desperate to make Kettle Springs great again, and on the other are the kids, who want to have fun, make prank videos, and get out of Kettle Springs as quick as they can.

To be fully honest here and say that I have very mixed feelings about this book because I didn’t like it nor had I hated it.

This book has all the parts which people love in horror movies, games and books. Which of course are death, murder, mental illness, physical violence and gore, but in a way all of those things didn’t work for me in this book.

The plot here was interesting at the beginning because a family of a daughter and her dad, moved into a small town a recent family tragedy in Philadelphia. But very soon it became uninteresting and boring, because the plot was stretched for far too long, before any horror have started.

The horror here, was all over the place here, because when things started to go down hill in the beginning you didn’t know what the f**k was happening or if it was one person or multiple people.

The characters in this book were very flat in this book to be honest here. The main character and her dad were okay as characters, but the rest of the character, I really had a hard time to telling them apart because they seem like the same character to me. Because all of the character even the main character and her father didn’t have a lot personality going on.

But the main character and her father had some kind of personality going on, but the rest of the characters just didn’t have it.

The writing style here, was probably the best thing about this book. It was very easy and simple, which made this book a quick read

But you could tell solely from the writing style that this book was meant for young adults, because the author didn’t use any big or complicated words.

I Give This Book 2 / 5

“1984” By George Orwell Review

Among the seminal texts of the 20th century, Nineteen Eighty-Four is a rare work that grows more haunting as its futuristic purgatory becomes more real. Published in 1949, the book offers political satirist George Orwell’s nightmarish vision of a totalitarian, bureaucratic world and one poor stiff’s attempt to find individuality. The brilliance of the novel is Orwell’s prescience of modern life—the ubiquity of television, the distortion of the language—and his ability to construct such a thorough version of hell. Required reading for students since it was published, it ranks among the most terrifying novels ever written.

I need to say that this book has been on my TBR for years, and this year I finally read it and I’m so very glad that I finally read it because this book is so amazing.

This book has 2 parts, and the 1 first part of it was for me personally hard to read, but the second part was completely amazing. Because in the second part its where this book really got its chance to shine.

This book was relevant when it was first published but now in 2024 its even more relevant, because humans in the majority of countries are becoming more and more like cyborgs. Which means that we as humans depend more and more on our phones, internet, headphones, laptops, tablets, tv etc.

The plot here is amazing, because its paint a very real version of dystopia and how everything would go downhill. Even thou this book is a fictional book, the dystopia in this book seems very real and like it might happen in a few decades. Which really made me love this book a lot because of it.

This book contains topics as humans being controlled by the government, no free speech, harsh and strict political rules, language manipulation, propaganda, excessive surveillance and everything we do and say being recorded. Which a lot of those topics are becoming more and more relevant now, and you will see it if you watch the news channels or read newspapers.

The writing style here was amazing, because it felt like George Orwell knew what words to use to grab my attention and to not let it go to the very end.

The two main characters we get in this book which of course are Winston and Julia are amazing, because you can feel their struggles, and how much they try to live their live under those harsh, brutal and strict rules which are set by the government.

“The Bazaar of Bad Dreams” By Stephen King Review

In this collection, Stephen King once again assembles a generous array of unforgettable, tantalizing tales. There are thrilling connections between these works – themes of morality, the afterlife, guilt, and what we would do differently if we could see into the future or correct the mistakes of the past. Magnificent, eerie, and utterly compelling, these tales are a fine gift to readers everywhere.

This book is a collection of short stories written by Stephen King. Its important to say that this book includes a lot of short stories which have been published before, so there were very little new short stories in this book.

All of the short stories in this book are very uninteresting and boring. The best way to describe them is that Stephen King tried to be similar to some of his older short stories which people liked but failed a lot on this task.

The plot in those short stories were very flat, and there too short to actually understand what was happening or make us care for the characters.

The characters in this book really surprised me here, because they were very flat, uninteresting and boring. But also the dialog between the characters were very mundane.

After every short story in this book, Stephen King adds some notes to every short story. In my opinion, these notes were very distracting because those notes would give us information we didn’t need to know and it pretty much killed the small amount of eerie vibe those short stories had.

The only place I saw this book in a store, was on the airport, and of course on that trip I forgot to take a book with me so I needed to buy one in the airport. And this book was I went with. And I truly regret spending my money on this book and my time.

“Peter Pan” By J.M. Barrie Review

Peter Pan, the mischievous boy who refuses to grow up, lands in the Darling’s proper middle-class home to look for his shadow. He befriends Wendy, John and Michael and teaches them to fly (with a little help from fairy dust). He and Tinker Bell whisk them off to Never-land where they encounter the Red Indians, the Little Lost Boys, pirates and the dastardly Captain Hook.

I need to admit that I never was fairytale child when I was a kid, so picking up this book as an adult might not have been the best choice. Which might be the reason why I gave this book so low rating.

This book didn’t have a huge appeal to me like some other classic books for children as “the wonderful wizard of oz”, but Im glad that I finally read it because this book has been laying on my TBR for couple of years now.

The characters here was on the bad side if you ask me. Wendy was very annoying and Peter here was really a shallow character. When it comes tot the side characters in this book they were even worse than Wendy and Peter. All of the side characters were way to similar to each other and you couldn’t set them apart and say who is who here because they felt like the same character.

There are times where I had to push myself through this book, because I just couldn’t get into the plot.

For me personally this book was more on the uninteresting because as said before I was never a fairy tale person.

This book is best suited for young children, so if you have a child who likes to read or you are trying to make your child pick up reading then this book is a good choice.

“Little Women” By Louisa May Alcott Review

It is no secret that Alcott based Little Women on her own early life. While her father, the freethinking reformer and abolitionist Bronson Alcott, hobnobbed with such eminent male authors as Emerson, Thoreau, and Hawthorne, Louisa supported herself and her sisters with “woman’s work,” including sewing, doing laundry, and acting as a domestic servant. But she soon discovered she could make more money writing. Little Women brought her lasting fame and fortune, and far from being the “girl’s book” her publisher requested, it explores such timeless themes as love and death, war and peace, the conflict between personal ambition and family responsibilities, and the clash of cultures between Europe and America.

I’ve heard a lot of good about this book which is why I decided to read it, and I got to say that this book doesn’t deserve all the hype it gets on boktube.

It is important to keep in mind that this book has two parts, which sometimes are published as two different books. And these two parts are named “little women” and “good wives”.

My main problem with this book is that we get 4 main characters, and all of them are way too perfect. They never do anything wrong, they want to please everyone, they want to serve everyone etc. they were super unrealistic which really makes it very detached from reality.

And all the love stories which the 4 main characters are just so perfectly shows us that it really doesn’t make sense to the reader, and really makes us thing that they would last an hour in the real world.

The writing style here was actually very good and it was the reason why I gave this book 2 starts instead of one.

However you are a feminist and like books with feminist themes then you will like this book a lot.

This book was very uninteresting and even boring at times which really made me angry because when I wanted to really love this book, but of course it didn’t happen.

The plot itself in this book is sort of a feminist novel set it 1862, I personally don’t like feminist novels, so it might explain why I didn’t like this book as much as I wanted to.

“Dolores Claiborne” By Stephen King Review

Suspected of killing Vera Donovan, her wealthy employer, Dolores Claiborne tells police the story of her life, harkening back to her disintegrating marriage and the suspicious death of her violent husband, Joe St. George, thirty years earlier. Dolores also tells of Vera’s physical and mental decline and of her loyalty to an employer who has become emotionally demanding in recent years.

I didn’t knew anything about this book before getting into it, and I need to admit that I was surprised because its actually good.

The plot in this book is very interesting, enjoyable and engaging. Which really surprised me because I wasn’t expecting this from this book. But I am all here for those kind of surprised in books.

The plot is very good the grab your attention and not letting it go until the very end. The the more you start thinking the story the less stars you want to give it when it comes to it.

It is important to say that this book isn’t as much a horror book as it is a psychological thriller. There aren’t any horror moments in this book but rather a woman trying to defend herself that she didn’t call her wealthy employer who died suspiciously.

All of the characters in this book are very very good, which you can expect from the master of horror. All of the characters in this book have a unique personality and all of them have something which sett them apart from the rest of the characters in this book.

The writing style is what you would expect from Stephen King, which of course means that is fantastic. It just as Stephen King knows what words to use to grab your attention and to not let it go until you finish the book.

The ending here was meh to be honest. I had some high expectations for the ending in this book but I ended up getting disappointed. Because this book builds into this good exciting ending which it fails to have.

“Ugly Love” By Colleen Hoover Review

When Tate Collins meets airline pilot Miles Archer, she knows it isn’t love at first sight. They wouldn’t even go so far as to consider themselves friends. The only thing Tate and Miles have in common is an undeniable mutual attraction. Once their desires are out in the open, they realize they have the perfect set-up. He doesn’t want love, she doesn’t have time for love, so that just leaves the sex. Their arrangement could be surprisingly seamless, as long as Tate can stick to the only two rules Miles has for her.

I need to admit that after trying to read this book, I will stop listening to Book Tok and taking book recommendations from it. Because all the books give picked up after watching videos about it on Tik Tok were absolutely trash, and 50% of them I couldn’t even finish because they were so bad in my opinion.

Its important to say before we officially begin this review, that I ended DNF-ing this book after having read 57% of it. I just couldn’t torture myself longer with this book.

The beginning of this book was actually interesting and somehow enjoyable, but the further you got into this book the worse and worse it became.

Even thou I’m not a fan of Colleen Hoover, Ive read some of her books before this one, and I can tell you that it felt like it wasn’t written by her but rather by a horny teenage girl. Yeah it was that bad.

The premise of this book had potential but the author didn’t use it, which really pissed me off because as I’ve said above I liked the beginning of this book but the further and further I go tin to this book I’ve started to lose more and more hope for this book.

The writing style in this book was surprisingly bad even for Colleen Hoover, which really surprised me a lot because I wasn’t expecting so bar writing style even from my least favorite author I’ve ever come across (so far).

The two main characters which were Tate and Miles were actually okay and likable. But they weren’t the strongest and best characters ive seen. In this book as in any other book written by Colleen Hoover, she makes obvious that she needs a lot to work on her skills of making good characters.

I personally didn’t like Tate so much, because she had absolutely no self respect. And she had let Miles and everyone else in this book treat her as a sex object or a punching bag

When it comes to the rest of the characters in this book then I have to say that I cant name any of them, because felt like the same character with the same personality in just different clothes.

There is also a fair amount of sexist things said and done in this book especially by one of the characters which was so miserable and annoying.

“November 9” By Colleen Hoover Review

Fallon meets Ben, an aspiring novelist, the day before her scheduled cross-country move. Their untimely attraction leads them to spend Fallon’s last day in L.A. together, and her eventful life becomes the creative inspiration Ben has always sought for his novel. Over time and amidst the various relationships and tribulations of their own separate lives, they continue to meet on the same date every year. Until one day Fallon becomes unsure if Ben has been telling her the truth or fabricating a perfect reality for the sake of the ultimate plot twist.

I need to admit that I DNF-ed this book very fast because it was so bad and it was a torture reading this book.

The plot in this book is for sure unique but that uniqueness doesn’t work for this book as you would think. Instead it drags this book to hell.

The plot had a lot of potential and very good premise but the way it was presented to us was so horrible and turned a good premise of a plot into a trash.

The characters here in this book are hard to talk about. Because the main male character did and say a lot of questionable things, which wont go with majority of the population.

After thinking about this book for couple of days, I need to admit that this book is very topic and problematic in a lot of ways.

The writing style here was very, very bad. And I really don’t have words to describe how bad the writing style was in this book. It was cringy and the fact that a full grown adult has written this makes it so much more cringy.

“You Should See Me in a Crown” By Leah Johnson Review

Liz Lighty has always believed she’s too black, too poor, too awkward to shine in her small, rich, prom-obsessed midwestern town. But it’s okay — Liz has a plan that will get her out of Campbell, Indiana, forever: attend the uber-elite Pennington College, play in their world-famous orchestra, and become a doctor.

This book is a good example on why you should trust Tik Tok on anything especially on the books topics. Ive seen this book going around on Bok Took since it first came out, and let me be honest with you this book isn’t worth all recommendations which it gets nor is it worth your time or money which you will spend on this book.

The whole book revolves about high school prom, I personally were never a fan of high school proms or high school in general, so of course having the main topic of this book being high school prom wouldn’t go well with me.

The plot in this book was very boring and uninteresting, and at a lot of moment sit was very cringy, as you would expect from a book revolving around high school prom.

The characters in this book were very generic characters, and they felt like the same character because they didn’t have personality or anything which would make them stand out from the rest of the characters.

There was one character which was always around, but still I cant remember who she was or what was her deal with always being around. She was very annoying and sort of a creep because she always there when anything happened at the high school.

All of the characters in this book are also very inconsistently written, that it starts to be funny. Because there were a lot of moments where 2 characters would have this huge fight over something stupid and then in the next sentence they would be best friends and instantly forget about the fight they just had.

All of the character are like 16- 17 years old but they seem like 6 and 7 year olds because they are immature and silly and joking about stupid things all the time.

The writing style here was very horrible, even for a Young adult book. Its hard to explain it because you could see that the author was trying at least to have good writing style but it just didn’t happen here
