“A Christmas Carol” By Charles Dickens Review

To bitter, miserly Ebenezer Scrooge, Christmas is just another day. But all that changes when the ghost of his long-dead business partner appears, warning Scrooge to change his ways before it’s too late.  Part of the Focus on the Family Great Stories collection, this abridged edition features an in-depth introduction and discussion questions by Joe Wheeler to provide greater understanding for today’s reader. “A Christmas Carol” captures the heart of the holidays like no other novel.

This book is an amazing Christmas book. I didn’t read a lot of Christmas books so far but it gotta be the best Christmas book ever written.

The writing style in this book is the fully amazing and I really live for the writing style like this one.

The plot here have so many layers to it that I can’t even put the words to it. You really have to read this book for yourself and I promise you that you will have an amazing time reading this book.

The plot in this book begins very grim but as it goes on we can feel the growing Christmas spirit which I truly love.

The main character in this book is a vert unique character especially at the beginning but as this book goes on we grow to like him more and more. Which really made me love this book more because we can truly enjoy and see the character development in this book.

The all of the characters feel like real human being which I gave Charles Dickens a lot of extra points for.

I Give This Book 5 / 5

“Mansfield Park” By Jane Austen Review

Taken from the poverty of her parents’ home in Portsmouth, Fanny Price is brought up with her rich cousins at Mansfield Park, acutely aware of her humble rank and with her cousin Edmund as her sole ally. During her uncle’s absence in Antigua, the Crawford’s arrive in the neighbourhood bringing with them the glamour of London life and a reckless taste for flirtation. Mansfield Park is considered Jane Austen’s first mature work and, with its quiet heroine and subtle examination of social position and moral integrity, one of her most profound.

In my opinion this book gotta be the best book written by Jane Austen so far. Of course I didn’t read all of her works yet.

The plot here is super interesting, fun, enjoyable and overall super amazing. I read this book in one day because I couldn’t pull myself away from the plot and this book because I was so engaged in this book which really surprised me a lot.

The writing style here was amazing, Jane Austen truly showed that she is one of the best authors of the past. After reading this book I truly understand the full hype with Jane Austen and her works.

The characters here were super amazing. I would love to meet them if it was possible. I really loved all of the characters in this book. Because all of the characters had something unique to them which made them different from the rest of the character. Which I personally love when it happens.

I Give This Book 5 / 5

“Pride and Prejudice” By Jane Austen Review

Since its immediate success in 1813, Pride and Prejudice has remained one of the most popular novels in the English language. Jane Austen called this brilliant work “her own darling child” and its vivacious heroine, Elizabeth Bennet, “as delightful a creature as ever appeared in print.” The romantic clash between the opinionated Elizabeth and her proud beau, Mr. Darcy, is a splendid performance of civilized sparring. And Jane Austen’s radiant wit sparkles as her characters dance a delicate quadrille of flirtation and intrigue, making this book the most superb comedy of manners of Regency England.

I gotta say that this book was okay. I didn’t have a lot of expectations for this book but it still disappointed me in a way because I wanted to like much more this book than I’ve did after reading it.

The plot here is again too much about romance in a way, which I personally aren’t the biggest fan of. But if we look away from the romances in this book than I found myself enjoying the plot in this book a lot and I found it to be interesting and enjoyable read overall.

This book is mostly a character study of 19th century England and of its societies, courtships etc. I am a big fan of that part of this book because I found it super interesting.

The characters here was likeable, and I liked them a lot. There were couple of times were I was annoyed with the characters but still I’ve liked them. The moment were one of the female characters rejected a man’s proposal but then she found out that he is rich and he instantly changed her mind made me literally throw the book across the room. Talking about an 19th century gold digger.

There were couple of moments in this book which were really boring and I wanted to DNF this book. But I struggled through them and I found myself with positive feedback for this book. Of course  not all polite as you might have seen above but still I gave it a high rating.

“A Room of One’s Own” By Virginia Woolf Review

A Room of One’s Own is an extended essay by Virginia Woolf. First published on the 24th of October, 1929, the essay was based on a series of lectures she delivered at Newnham College and Girton College, two women’s colleges at Cambridge University in October 1928. While this extended essay in fact employs a fictional narrator and narrative to explore women both as writers and characters in fiction, the manuscript for the delivery of the series of lectures, titled Women and Fiction, and hence the essay, are considered nonfiction. The essay is seen as a feminist text, and is noted in its argument for both a literal and figural space for women writers within a literary tradition dominated by patriarchy.

My first book written by Virginia Woolf and I gotta say that I wasn’t a big fan of this book. This book might be a bad place to start the journey with Virginia Wolf but at least it is a start with her works.

This book is more of are couple of feminist essays than rather a book. But it was a quick read overall.

I can’t say that it was enjoyable or interesting read for me personally but it was defiantly a read which will give you some ideas on how life was back in the late 20s when this book was first published.

The writing style was good and super old timey which I personnel love. But I felt like Virginia Woolf could have put a little more effort into it or it might be me who is being very picky.

In this essays, Virginia Woolf tackled themes about women and fiction and the impact of privilege. Which were interesting to read but not super fun to read. Because to me felt like I was back in middle school and listening to a lecture about a topic I didn’t care about.

“Warriors of the Storm” By Bernard Cornwell Review

The new novel in Bernard Cornwell’s number one bestselling series The Saxon Tales, on the making of England and the fate of his great hero, Uhtred of Bebbanburg. A fragile peace governs the kingdoms of Wessex, East Anglia, under the rule of the late King Alfred’s son, King Edward, and Mercia, under his daughter Aethelflaed. Uhtred, her formidable champion and greatest warrior, controls the northern parts from the strongly fortified city of Chester. But no one can prepare them for the storm that is about to descend. The Northmen, allied to the Irish, come in force under the cover of night, up the Mersey, perhaps to attack Chester, perhaps to rage and pillage through Mercia, perhaps to take the troubled kingdom of Northumbria. They are led by the terrifying Viking warrior, Ragnall Iverson, a fierce fighter and ruthless leader.

This book is the 9th book in the “The Last Kingdom” book series. And it is also my first book in this series. Which is a very bad place to start a book with. To be fully honest I got this book as an gift last year I think and I wanted to read this book to see if I would like the series before I would buy the rest of this series. And I love this book and this series so far.

The plot of this book is amazing and really give me like the biggest Vikings vibe even thou it is a little bit different. But it gave me a deja vu to when I first started watching Vikings. Which really made me love this book even more.

The writing style here was amazing, it was very close to being a masterpiece. It lacked couple of things here and there but it was still amazing and super good.

The characters here also reminded me of vikings in a way. Of course they felt like a poor version of the characters from vikings but still as it being a whole different series I just loved them. Ever character here had something to them and it really felt like real people from that era.

There were couple of funny moments here and there in this book. But for the most part this book will keep you on edge and keep you interested from the beginning to the end.

This book have some ruthless and gory scenes here and there so if you might get triggered by it I would recommend to not read it. But for me personally these ruthless and gory scenes made it more fun to read this book because you can’t tell a viking story without the violence.

The hatred, the battle and the drama between the Danes and Christians was really amazing here and it really made this book so much better because it added a mode to the book.

The ending here is also very good but there was a cliffhanger there which really made me pissed off because I hate when it happens.

“Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” By Quentin Tarantino Review

RICK DALTON – Once he had his own TV series, but now Rick’s a washed-up villain-of-the week drowning his sorrows in whiskey sours. Will a phone call from Rome save his fate or seal it? CLIFF BOOTH – Rick’s stunt double, and the most infamous man on any movie set because he’s the only one there who might have gotten away with murder. SHARON TATE – She left Texas to chase a movie-star dream, and found it. Sharon’s salad days are now spent on Cielo Drive, high in the Hollywood Hills. CHARLES MANSON – The ex-con’s got a bunch of zonked-out hippies thinking he’s their spiritual leader, but he’d trade it all to be a rock ‘n’ roll star. HOLLYWOOD 1969 – YOU SHOULDA BEEN THERE

As someone who watched the movie when it first came out I need to say that I didn’t have any expectations for this book because I wasn’t the biggest fan of the movie. However I am a huge fan of Quentin Tarantino which made me very disappointed in this book because in a way I was expecting something more from this book.

The plot here follows many characters and it is quite confusing because it switched characters without any heads up but after a while you get used to it but still it was very confusing and annoying.

We are given a lots of information in this book and most of this information is very useless and overwhelming. It feels like Quentin Tarantino is throwing random names and information at us without using it later in this book just to fill up the page and have this book longer.

This book isn’t a novel nor novelisation of a movie it is rather a movie memorabilia which really was the worst choice which Quentin Tarantino could have done. This book feels like a very weak first draft of a movie or a book.

The writing style here was okay for the most part but it didn’t feel like something written by Quentin Tarantino.

The characters here are super boring and really uninteresting. The only character Ive almost liked was Cliff but mostly I didn’t care for all of the characters in this book. Because they are super flat and boring.

“The Complete Works of William Shakespeare” By William Shakespeare Review

Complete Works of William Shakespeare is the standard name given to any volume containing all the plays and poems of William Shakespeare

This book is a collection of all of William Shakespeare’s work. To be honest the majority didn’t go well with me but there were very few good once.

There are 38 plays, 2 long poems and 154 sonnets in this book. I’ve already reviewed each of them separately so if you are interested you can always look back at them.

This book is very good for collector of classic works, but also this book is a good one to have if you want all of William Shakespeare’s work in one place which would look amazing in the bookshelf.

To be honest after reading this whole book I need to say that maybe William Shakespeare is a little bit overrated because I personally didn’t understand why so many people love William Shakespeare’s work.

I Give Book 4 / 5

“Crime And Punishment” By Fyodor Dostoevsky Review

Raskolnikov, a destitute and desperate former student, wanders through the slums of St Petersburg and commits a random murder without remorse or regret. He imagines himself to be a great man, a Napoleon: acting for a higher purpose beyond conventional moral law. But as he embarks on a dangerous game of cat and mouse with a suspicious police investigator, Raskolnikov is pursued by the growing voice of his conscience and finds the noose of his own guilt tightening around his neck. Only Sonya, a downtrodden sex worker, can offer the chance of redemption.

Yet again another classic which didn’t work for me. I’ve heard a lot of good things about this classic which it didn’t live up to for me. And I ended up DNF-ing it after having read 73% of it. But hey we don’t have to like all of the books most people finding enjoyable.

This book was super boring and for me personally it was a punishment to read this book because there was almost nothing I liked about it. Of course there were couple of moments were it was starting to get interesting but then it was killed of on the next page. This happened couple of times and it really pissed me off because I wanted to really like this book and be one of these people who have nothing but good things to say about this book.

The characters in this book were super annoying and super boring and I really wanted to murder them myself if they were real human beings because I just couldn’t stand them at all.

This book is very it’s repetitive and it basically says the same thing over and over again at least in the English Version I’ve read it in.

The writing style here was super dry, uninteresting, boring and if I was required to read this book in school I wouldn’t never again pick up a book again because after reading this book I understand why some people hate reading books.

The premise of this book sounds very interesting but the way it was told and it being mixed with super annoying and super boring character really killed the potential of the plot to this book.

Rodion Romanovich Raskolnikov was such a buzzkill that I wanted to beat the shit out of him because for me personally he was the biggest problem of why I didn’t like this book. The best way to describe him is overthinking maniac.

The biggest problem with this book for me is the way it was written because this book and the characters had the potential to be such a big hit for me but the writing here made it impossible for me to like it.

“Sense and Sensibility” By Jane Austen Review

Marianne Dashwood wears her heart on her sleeve, and when she falls in love with the dashing but unsuitable John Willoughby she ignores her sister Elinor’s warning that her impulsive behaviour leaves her open to gossip and innuendo. Meanwhile Elinor, always sensitive to social convention, is struggling to conceal her own romantic disappointment, even from those closest to her. Through their parallel experience of love—and its threatened loss—the sisters learn that sense must mix with sensibility if they are to find personal happiness in a society where status and money govern the rules of love.

After reading this book I fully understand the hype with Jane Austen because this book was amazing and I found myself enjoying this book much more than I’ve expected.

The plot here is amazing. But I found myself not carrying for the romances in this book. But it was super fun reading this book and seeing where the plot in this book takes us. The plot in this book follows two teenager girls and their romances which I found very boring.

The writing style was super old school but at the same time very fun and enjoyable.

The characters here were okay but I wasn’t the biggest fan of all the characters here. I really didn’t care for them but I didn’t mind them at the same time. Which is a weird combination.

This book would have been one of my favourite books if I didn’t focus so much on romances and the same thing goes to the characters in this book.

“War and Peace” By Leo Tolstoy Review

In Russia’s struggle with Napoleon, Tolstoy saw a tragedy that involved all mankind. Greater than a historical chronicle, War and Peace is an affirmation of life itself, `a complete picture’, as a contemporary reviewer put it, `of everything in which people find their happiness and greatness, their grief and humiliation’.

I had kind of high hopes for this book because I’ve hear so many good things about this book but I also know that it won’t be a 5 star read for me because it isn’t something I would typically read but still I was disappointed in this book in a way.

The plot was super boring for me personally and it really felt like torture for me to read it and I just DNF-ed this book when Ive read like 67% of it because I couldn’t keep on reading because it was so boring. For me personally it felt like it was lecture on way too many perspectives of this war which made me want to never pick up a classic again.

There were too many characters in this book which were so similar to each other that I just couldn’t tell them apart and all of the characters in this book became just the same person to me with different names. Leo Tolstoy could have done a better job here at setting the characters apart from each other because for me it was impossible to tell characters apart.

For me personally this book felt like a textbook which came with very annoying, dry, stubborn and punishment loving professor built into it. After reading this book I reminded myself why I hated reading books when I was still in school.

This book was also filled with long descriptions of battles which really made me want to shove a pencil in each of my eyes. These descriptions of battles would have been better if they were shorter and more relatable than they actually were.

The writing style here was also very old school and it really made me so tired that I needed to take a break every 30 minutes. For me personally this book was mental beating just because I didn’t care about the characters here nor what happened next I just forced myself to read this book.
