“Pericles” By William Shakespeare Review

Prince of Tyre leaves home to escape death only to win a jousting contest and marry a princess. Once he can return home, his family sails with him, but a storm separates them, so Pericles returns alone. Years later, Pericles finds his daughter and reunites with the wife he had thought was dead.

This one was a pretty okay play written by William Shakespeare. This one surprised me in a good way because I didn’t like the majority of plays written by William Shakespeare but this one was pretty good for me.

This play have a huge Charles Dickens Vibe to it which I personally come to enjoy and to be honest I ended giving this play some extra point for the Charles Dickens Vibe which it had.

The plot in this play was pretty good but still it had the generic William Shakespeare plot about love, battle and the huge tragedy at the end which of course is death. But to be honest I didn’t mind in this one because of the way it was presented to us which made the plot a little bit more fun and a little bit more interesting.

The writing style here was good here. Of course it had the typical William Shakespeare writing with the fun poetic language in it.

I Give Play 3 / 5

“Venus and Adonis” By William Shakespeare Review

It tells the story of Venus, the goddess of Love; of her unrequited love; and of her attempted seduction of Adonis, an extremely handsome young man, who would rather go hunting. The poem is pastoral, and at times erotic, comic and tragic. It contains discourses on the nature of love, and observations of nature.

This was an okay poems / plays written by William Shakespeare. In my opinion it was one of the best plays written by William Shakespeare. But it goes back to the fact that I personally don’t like plays at all.

The plot here in this play talks is a generic William Shakespeare with love, battle / war, tragedy etc. You know the deal if you read any of William Shakespeare plays before. However the way it was pretend to us made is fun and okay. And it was interesting and enjoyable to read it.

In my opinion this one was too melodramatic for me but it had many good moments.

The writing style here was very good it really showed me how good of a writer William Shakespeare was and why so many people love his work.

This one is sort of a mix between play and a a collection of various poems. Which makes it a little bit hard to review.

For me personally it felt like there was something missing but it might be just me not liking plays / poems.

I Give Play 3 / 5

“King Henry VI, Part 2” By William Shakespeare Review

The second part of this play is the same as the first one, it is just as bad as the first one.

This one feels like an unfinished play which really annoyed me a lot because it really killed the entire play for me.

This play has the same problem as the first one which is that if you don’t know anything about British royal family back in the day then you we struggle throughout this entire play and it is be torture.

There are many good characters but they really didn’t made me like them or made me care for them. I appreciate very character in this play but to be fully honest here I didn’t care for me at all.

The writing style was pretty good, I’m still pretty fresh to William Shakespeare so I can’t compare it to some of his other works but it was good enough I assume.

For me personally it was pretty boring and it was too many of names to follow and it makes even harder that I’m not familiar with the British royal family from hundreds of years ago.

I Give This Play 2 / 5

“Henry VI Part I” By William Shakespeare Review

A boy king, Henry VI, is on the English throne, and the indomitable Talbot leads the English cause in France. Joan La Pucelle (Joan of Arc), who becomes captain of the French, claims to be chosen by the Virgin Mary to liberate France. The English, however, consider her a sensual witch.

I gotta say that I was disappointed in this play because I was expecting something more than death and speeches which this play is full of.

This play start at the funeral of Henry V which to me felt like it started mid-story which really confused me.

I feel like this play would have been soo much better if Jean of Arc was the main character in this play because he was easily the most interesting character in this entire play and of course he is seen as the tragic heroine character.

There are many good characters but they really didn’t made me like them or made me care for them. I appreciate very character in this play but to be fully honest here I didn’t care for me at all.

This play is mostly exposition and battles and preparations for what’s to come which really made it to a torture to read for me.

“Timon of Athens” By William Shakespeare Review

Wealthy and popular, Timon of Athens helps his friends, gives many gifts, and holds a feast. After ignoring his true friends’ warnings, Timon runs out of money, and none of his “friends” will help him. He runs away to a cave where he curses humanity, finds gold, funds someone to destroy Athens, and dies.

This play is very poorly constructed because it is all over the place and sometimes it feel like the play missed couple of pages because it felt not quite complete.

The plot of this play is very boring and it was a pure torture for me while I was reading this one. I ended up DNF-ing this one after having read like 40 ish % of it just because I couldn’t take it anymore.

The plot in this play was generic William Shakespeare plot about love, battle and the huge tragedy at the end which of course is death.

The characters here are very boring and I just couldn’t keep track of who was who in this play. Because every characters just felt like the same person to me which really made it hard for me to like it. But this tends to be the biggest problem for me with plays written by William Shakespeare.

The writing style here was typical William Shakespeare writing with the fun poetic language in it. Which to be honest must have been the best part about this play.

I Give Play 1 / 5

“Coriolanus” By William Shakespeare Review

Roman general Coriolanus makes his name defeating an enemy army and defending Rome. The Senate nominates him as consul but he cannot win the people’s vote, so he is banished from Rome and allies with his old enemy.

This play was like the majority of plays by William Shakespeare which I’ve read and hated. Because all of the plays by William Shakespeare really are the same and involve love, struggle and then dead at the end. Which really annoys me at that point.

This entire play was super boring and uninteresting and I ended DNF-ing it after have read like 60 ish % of it.

The writing style here was probably the best thing in this play because it gave the William Shakespeare vibes with the poetic language but that just all and there isn’t much else to say.

The characters here are super boring and uninteresting. To be fully honest here I just didn’t care for any of the characters here because I just couldn’t stand them at all.

I Give Play 1 / 5

“Antony and Cleopatra” By William Shakespeare Review

A tragedy of love and duty. Antony & Cleopatra written around 1606 is one of Shakespeare’s great historical love stories. Antony is captivated by Cleopatra, Queen of Egypt. Gossip and scandal leads to plots of murder and battles.

This one was very close to being “Romeo and Juliet” part 2 because in the end it was the same play with the characters having different names.  This play truly shows that love and politics doesn’t fit in together.

The plot of this play was love, politics and murder which really was so uninteresting and to be honest this one might be the worst play ever written. The entire plot is very over dramatic and really it just was part 2 to Romeo and Juliet.

There are too many characters in this play to keep track of. And really all of them were super annoying and boring. To be fully honest here all of the characters here felt like the same person but dressed differently.

The writing style here was probably the best thing in this play because it gave the William Shakespeare vibes with the poetic language but that just all and there isn’t much else to say.

I Give Play 1 / 5

“The Rape of Lucrece” By William Shakespeare Review

This is a narrative poem focusing on the rape and tragic death of the title character and on the desire for revenge that follows. The work has been subcategorized as a complaint poem, a work in which the main character laments or bemoans his or her unfair fate or injustice.

This play by William Shakespeare surprised me in a good way because I was expecting something which wouldn’t work for me. But this play was actually okay in my opinion.

I personally don’t like plays and I am not a fan of watching nor reading plays but this one was actually fun to read.

The characters in this play were okay but to be honest I wasn’t the biggest fan of them. There weren’t annoying I just personally didn’t care for them but they were tolerable so I gave this play points for that.

The plot here was somehow darker than the rest of William Shakespeare’s plays but in a good way. Because in my opinion it suited William Shakespeare much better in a way. This play for the most part is about rape and tragic death which are very sad topics but I really liked.

The narrative is very self-absorbed and melodramatic which annoyed me at times. To be honest this play would have been much better if these two were removed from this play.

The writing style here was okay. The writing style here was very typical William Shakespeare writing style which I personally never came to appreciate.

I Give Play 3 / 5

“A Lover’s Complaint” By William Shakespeare Review

A lover’s complaint is a compressed poem detailing the predicament of an abandoned female lover who laments her undoing at the hands of an unscrupulous male seducer.

The writing style here was very good and beautiful to be honest.

This one was short so there isn’t much to say about it.

To poetry here was okay but the plot was worse. Because it was the generic plot of William Shakespeare about love, grief and death was really fast gets depressing if you ask me.

This poem is fun, enjoyable and interesting to read but still there was something missing in it at least for me.

I Give Poem 3 / 5

“Macbeth” By William Shakespeare Review

A brave Scottish general named Macbeth receives a prophecy from a trio of witches that one day he will become King of Scotland. Consumed by ambition and spurred to action by his wife, Macbeth murders King Duncan and takes the Scottish throne for himself. He is then wracked with guilt and paranoia.

This play was another play by William Shakespeare which I didn’t care about and which I didn’t like at all. To be fully honest I DNF-ed this one after reading like 56% of it.

The plot here was very typical William Shakespeare plot. Which normal ends up with me not liking it just because I don’t like plays about kings, queens and royal family in genera.

The writing style here was the best thing in this play because it gave the biggest William Shakespeare vibe which I enjoyed a lot.

This play was written by William Shakespeare so you know that there will be a dramatic death in here somewhere. The death here wasn’t half bad but still it was a stretch and it really made me laugh when it happened.

The characters here are super unrealistic and they are really the definition of someone being very very annoying.

I Give Play 1 / 5
