“Some Words With a Mummy” By Edgar Allan Poe Review

Some Words with a Mummy is a satirical short story by Edgar Allan Poe. Doctor Ponnonner invites the narrator to his home to take part in a mummy unwrapping.

The idea behind this short story was pretty interesting but I feel like it wasn’t used in the way as it could. It sort of had the potential to be better but in my opinion it wasn’t used.

The writing style here wasn’t the best. For the most part the writing style here was pretty okay but Edgar Allan Poe was able to do much better than this one.

And I gotta be honest here with you this short story was packed with Edgar Allan Poe’s dry wit. Which didn’t go so well with me.

I also had hard time connecting with the story which leads to a low rating in my life and my adventure with books, short stories, poems, movies and series.

This story was funny, so it needs to get points for that. There were a very hilarious moment in this story when the modern people of that era which is 19th century, could only find one superiority when compared to the ancient Egyptians which of course is cough drops. I had a good laugh when I read this and I love to have a good laugh while reading something. However this moment has truth to it. Because ancient people were very smart and more advanced than what we give them credit for.

And gotta say that this short story was creative which i like when it happens. So again extra points to this short story.

I give this poem 1 / 5

“Nothing Gold Can Stay” By Robert Frost Review

This poem explores the idea that nothing good or precious can last forever by using nature and The Garden of Eden as metaphors for cycles of life and death and the loss of innocence.

This poem is a 8 line poem written by no other than Robert Frost the master of poems. There is only one guy who writes better poems than Edgar Allan Poe and it is Robert Frost.

The entire uses throughout the entire poem the imagery of sunrise’s impact on Nature. Just as a metaphor for life and the loss of beauty and innocence as time goes by. And I truly loved that.

The writing style is hard to review in poems because they are short and poems have a specific tactic they are written in. But if we compare the writing style with in this poem with other poems than we will see that the writing style here was amazing and extremely good.

This poem sort of connects the dots between the concept of Experience in every aspect of its being. And the fact that this poem explains the mysterious and even fantastic transformation which happened within the hour that sunrises come and go really makes this poem very unique and good.

And the mood which this poem has really makes you think about these simple moments like seeing sunrise or sunset and how fast they actually pass.

This poem has also a very good underlying message in it which you realise after you have read the poem and thought about it for a while.

This poem gets 5 / 5

“A Tale of the Ragged Mountains” By Edgar Allan Poe Review

This tale begins with an identified narrator whose story is the loose outer frame for the central tale of Augustus Bedloe, a wealthy young invalid whom the narrator has known “casually” for eighteen years yet who still remains an enigma.

First thing first and that’s why I need to say that I’m giving short story extra points for being mysterious and overall an original story.

The writing style here again was not good enough for Edgar Allan Poe. Edgar Allan Poe was fully able to write better than he did in this one.

The plot was kind of okay, but the potential of this story wasn’t fully used. Of course it was interesting enough to read it. But I wouldn’t reread it.

The old English really comes to place in this one. And I needed to pull up my dictionary a lots.

And to be honest here I was confused while reading it and after I’ve read it I was still confused.

Overall its a little weird short story.

“The Power of Words” By Edgar Allan Poe Review

This poem focuses on someone who’s exhausted after a long day’s work in an apple orchard. Drifting between wakefulness and sleep, the poem’s speaker replays the day’s events while feeling anxious about all the apples left unpicked.

So today we are talking about Edgar Allan Poe and one of his short stories. This short story is only 2 pages long.

It didn’t quit speak to me but I had fun time reading this short story.

This short story needs to get some extra points for having some biblical reference to God creating the universe. Im very far from being a religious person but I appreciate references to history and what humans have created.

This short story also has another reference to religion which is God needed to use “algebraic analysis” to create the universe and the mathematicians in this poem might be interested in the logical paradox that apparently keeps God happy according to Edgar Allan Poe.

The writing style was pretty okay, but Edgar Allan Poe was Abe to write better poems and short stories than this one.

This poem offers us a very lovely debate about the spiritual philosophy and how it might relate to the inner workings of the world. Which this poem need to get extra points for.

However I had hard time connecting with this story which translates into a low rating with me.

There isn’t a lots of action in this one which may lead some people to not liking it. But I think that many if you will like it.

“Dust of snow” By Robert Frost Review

This poem tells that even a simple moment has a large significance.

This was is a pretty decent poem from the goat himself aka Robert Frost.

The writing style here was pretty disappointing because it didn’t quit feel like Robert Frost.

However there are some parts which I didn’t like with this poem which I can’t mention because I don’t want to spoil anything for people who haven’t read it yet.

This poem gets 3 / 5

“The Valley Of Unrest” By Edgar Allan Poe Review

This poem is about being “inspired” by the suffering loss that he felt and the sadness of war.

The whole theme of this poem is that it speaks about the independence of nature together with its unique world, untainted by humans.

This poem sort of falls into the latter category. I can see why and how some of you might enjoy this one. But for me this poem didn’t work.

This poem is sort of romantic mixed with the dark and gothic part which we all love dont we?

The writing is good as you can expect from Edgar Allan Poe.

The final line will probably send chills down your spine.

I give this poem 1 / 5

“FAIRY LAND” By Edgar Allan Poe Review

The poem is about Edgar Allan Poe and his hardships in his life currently. It was written in a time when he had a gambling and drinking problem at the military academy in the United States.

So another poem I didn’t really enjoy. But it was again better than other poems and stories from Edgar Allan Poe which was review on this blog in the past.

For me this poem was for the most part a way for Edgar Allan Poe to show off his prose without any real point to it.

The writing style was decent and the gothic and dark part was present in this poem. Which I’m very thankful for.

I give this poem 2 / 5

“To The River” By Edgar Allan Poe Review

The poem is about a man encapsulated by the varied beauty of a woman. And how the lake is beautiful, for it is just a reflection of her beauty. And just like the river he too is beautiful, for he holds her image.

So we are here again talking about another quick and easy poem from Edgar Allan Poe.

The writing style was pretty okay but nothing to talk a lots about. But I was missing again the gothic vibe in this poem too.

The whole theme of this poem was pretty okay, but still it could have been better. Because I really had a hard time trying to focus on the story.

I give this poem 2 / 5

“The Sleeper” By Edgar Allan Poe Review

The theme is transcendental love–that is, love for a woman so powerful that it extends into the afterlife in its concern for the well-being of the deceased woman’s soul.

So this one is another eerie and delightfully dark poem from Edgar Allan Poe. This poem is also mixed with a little bit of beauty. But still I once again were missing the gothic part in this poem.

The writing style wasn’t that great as in some other poems from Edgar Allan Poe. But I guess that it was for the most part pretty decent.

There were a lots of times where I personally had a real hard time with trying to understand what was happening.

This poem is far from Edgar Allan Poe best work but it is worth reading if you are a hardcore Edgar Allan Poe fan.

I give this poem 2 / 5

“Lenore” By Edgar Allan Poe Review

Guy de Vere cannot weep for his dead beloved Lenore. He gives an elegy in which he berates everyone for loving her wealth and hating her pride, suggesting that people had wished her ill and effectively killed her

This one was a somber poem. But I need to give it points for having the beautiful way into honoured her after she have died in the poem.

As you can expect this poem is about the sorrow of losing the beloved ones which is pretty much a typical Edgar Allan Poe thing. However this poem is also about the consolation of believing that they left to better place.

The writing style was okay for the most part, however I personally were missing the gothic and dark vibe to it.

This poem was also kind of like melancholy splendour. Or at least it give that kind of impression when I read it.

This poem is also good to show how Edgar Allan Poe have struggled with the deaths of many women in his life.

This poem as a whole isn’t that great or it also could be me not liking most of the poems in the world.

I give this poem 2 / 5
