“The Three Black Princesses” By Jacob Grimm & Wilhelm Grimm Review

The original tale is much better but also darker then the version kids see.

It is different but not that different from what you might remember from first hearing this tale as a kid.

The plot here are very good but also dark which is the mix which I personally like a lot.

The writing style here was very old and you could feel the vibe of old the Europe which was amazing for me.

“The Way up to Heaven” By Roald Dahl Review

Mrs Foster has recently begun to suspect her husband of purposely exacerbating her pathological fear of missing a train or plane. She is continuously badgered by her husband, Eugene, who makes a habit of waiting until the last minute to leave the house.

This short story by Roald Dahl was okay for the most part it wasn’t the greatest thing written by him nor was it the worst thing written by him. This short story is really a dark and morbid tale.

The plot in this short story wasn’t the most entertaining and interesting but it was enjoyable for the most part there were couple of moments while reading this one where I wanted to DNF this short story because it began so boring and uninteresting .

The characters in this short story were okay for the most part. It didn’t dislike them but I also didn’t like them. I didn’t care about them at all so I didn’t bother to have any specific thoughts about them.  But the main character really made it impossible for me to even try liking her because she submissive to everything and she allowed everyone especially her husband treat her very cruelly.

The ending here was really the biggest problem for me with this short story because it really ruined it for me.

“”Hope” is the thing with feathers” By Emily Dickinson Review

So yet again we are reviewing another poem but this time it is a poem by Emily Dickinson.

It was a short poem.

The writing style here wasn’t that great. It could have something to do with the old English in this one.

The plot of this poem was okay but it didn’t work for me. I kind of wish that I’ve have enjoyed this one more.

This one was my second word of Emily Dickinson. And so far I wish that I enjoyed her work more because it feels like a lots of people really love her work and I just don’t so far.

“One for the Road” By Stephen King Review

The main part of the story is set a couple of years after the events of “Salem’s Lot”.

So this little short story takes place after the event in Salem’s lot which as you might know is one of my least favourite books from Stephen King.

This short story didn’t quit feel like  something written by Stephen King, it rather felt like something written by some who tried to impersonate Stephen King.

The writing style was kind of okay. It wasn’t good nor bad. But the writing style has nothing much to talk about.

I give this short story 3 / 5

“The Tomb” By H.P. Lovecraft Review

This short story tells of Jervas Dudley, a self-confessed day-dreamer. While still a child, he discovers the entrance to a mausoleum, belonging to the family Hyde, whose nearby family mansion had burnt down many years previously. The entrance to the mausoleum is padlocked and slightly ajar. Jervas attempts to break the padlock, but is unable. Dispirited, he takes to sleeping beside the tomb.

This short story was a really good read. The Lovecraftian world really comes into play in this short story. And I really enjoyed it.

The writing style here was good, it was a little bit above the okay / average but still it was good and on point with the plot and the rest of this short story. But it still made you imagine in our head what you have been reading, which I really love when this happens while reading a good short story and a good book.

The plot itself  a little bit disappointing but it was still enjoyable, interesting and fun to read. It could have been better because it had the potential to be better but it H.P Lovecraft didn’t really use that potential which this short story had.

However I need to give this short story points for sort of having the New England magic vibe to it which I really enjoyed in this short story.

This short story also has a vibe of the unhinged psychology. And I personally am very interested in psychology so because of that I gave this short story couple of extra points for that.

This short story wasn’t the best H.P Lovecraft  story but it was interesting, enjoyable and somehow engaging.

“The Bride of the Sea” By H.P. Lovecraft Review

Gotta say that this short story was pretty average, it was okay but nothing more than that.

The writing style here was pretty basic and not much here to say more than that. It was good but sort of this didn’t feel like something Lovecraftian as you might expect.

The plot itself was okay, but I had hard time connecting with it so of course if I can’t connect with the plot then I can’t give the book / short story a good reading even if I want to.

The narrator of this short story was sort of a generic narrator which you can find in any book and short story with a narrator from 1900s.

I think that this short story had a little bit of potential to be better than it actually was.

I give this short story 3 / 5

“The Temple” By H.P. Lovecraft Review

The story is narrated as a “found manuscript” penned by Karl Heinrich, Graf von Altberg-Ehrenstein, a lieutenant-commander in the Imperial German Navy during the days of World War I. Altberg begins by declaring that he has decided to document the events leading up to his untimely end in order to “set certain facts” before the public, aware that he will not survive to do so himself.

Another pretty average short story from no other than H.P Lovecraft.

The writing style was probably the best part of this short story, it was actually super good. It makes you imagine indoor head what you read in this short story. This short story really proves that the writing style is as important as the plot itself.

The plot itself in this short story however was pretty average. I think that H.P Lovecraft really nailed it, because I have a feeling that if someone else wrote this story it wouldn’t be as good as it really as.

And I gotta be a little bit honest here with you about the fact that this short story is a slightly unusual story for H.P Lovecraft.

And I need to give this short story extra points for being sort of a claustrophobic underwater horror short story. I’m the person who is scared of deep seas and oceans so it works very good on me.

I give this short story 3 / 5
