“From Beyond” By H.P. Lovecraft Review

Told from the first person perspective of an unnamed narrator and details his experiences with a scientist named Crawford Tillinghast. Tillinghast creates an electronic device that emits a resonance wave, which stimulates an affected person’s pineal gland, thereby allowing them to perceive planes of existence outside the scope of accepted reality.

The writing style very good in this one. It really surprised me because it I didn’t expect it and I had low expectations for it.

When it comes to the plot of this short story I gotta say that I truly liked it. It was so good that it surprised me. It has something to it, it was easily to connect with it and it made you imagine the whole story in your head.

This plot almost seemed like it was perfect for a new season for “Stranger Things”, it really had the vibe of the first season of stranger things.

It was sort but still super engaging and super enjoyable. However it wasn’t scary as some of you might expect, but it had couple of moments which send chills down my spine.

And the narrator in this short story was like generic narrator from every gothic horror story but in this short story the narrator had something to him  which made him generic and also unique at the same time.

This short story is full of dread and ingenuity. Which I personally really enjoyed.

I give this short story 4 / 5

“Polaris” By H.P. Lovecraft Review

In the story, an unnamed narrator describes his nightly obsession with the Pole star, and his recurring dreams of a city under siege. The narrator struggles with determining whether his reality is real, or if his dream is the true reality. Critics have noted autobiographical elements in the story, and have connected it with Lovecraft’s experiences of uselessness during WW1

The atmosphere here in this one wasn’t great for me because I didn’t quit get it and it felt strange.

The write style in this one was pretty strange and it didn’t feel quit as H.P Lovecraft. And it also felt like it was written by someone who have never written anything before. It could be just be me who is being to harsh for everything I read.

The plot here is pretty basic and not to much to talk about here because there isn’t much which is happening here.

The characters here are also not much to talk about here, because they are super flat and they feels like there is nothing to tell them apart here.

I give this short story 2 / 5

“The City” By H.P. Lovecraft Review

So this is another short story by H.P Lovecraft which really disappointed me. But it surprised me that not a lot of people are talking about this short story it seems like  everyone about forgotten about this one. But lets into the review shall we?

The plot itself in this short story feels like it was written by a high school student in the gothic era. It was bad but it had the gothic vibe to it which I really loved but as a whole I just can’t give it a full score.

The writing style here was poor, and there isn’t much to talk about here as you may expect.

The characters here are also very poor, and I count connect with them at all. Is you might expect the rating to be low.

I give this short story 2 / 5

“The Hound” By H.P. Lovecraft Review

This short story explores the idea of suicide as a response to knowledge of the world.

Once again we are gathering here to talk about one of H.P Lovecraft’s work and this time it is The Hound.

The writing style in this one was amazing which really surprised me.

The story however could have been much better than it actually was. It had the potential to be better but this potential wasn’t used. Which is sad. And I sort of had hard time connecting with the story.

And I don’t know why but the story didn’t go well with me for whatever reason. Its could have been just me but it was couple of plot holes which I’ve noticed.

I give this short story 1 / 5

“Memory” By H.P. Lovecraft Review

This story takes place in the ancient valley of Nis, in vegetation-covered stone ruins described by Lovecraft in great detail. These crumbling blocks of monolithic stone now serve only for grey toads and snakes to nest under. Interspersed in the ruins are large trees that are home to little apes.

And again we are talking about the goat himself, of course I mean H.P Lovecraft.

This short story was amazing. One of these things which makes this short story great is that it uses many of Lovecraft’s common images and ideas. Like the recalling of the deep past mixed with the unknown things.

The writing style here was amazing, and it really proves why H.P Lovecraft is one of the most important writes who every lived. And it also shows why he has so many fans today.

The story is what you imagine a short story by H.P Lovecraft would be like. It got something to it which makes it scary and it gives you goosebumps. And the story in this one feels like a mix between Stephen King, Edgar Allan Poe and Alfred Hitchcock.

The entire short story has an eerie vibe to it and the atmosphere in this one a scary vibe to it.

This short story has amazing delightfully and haunting depiction of memories which are of the fall of civilisation.

I give this short story 5 / 5

“Dagon” By H.P. Lovecraft Review

This short story tells the story of Paul Marsh, a young man who discovers that the truth will not set him free instead it condemns him to a waking nightmare of unrelenting horror.

So another pretty average short story from H.P Lovecraft. I’ve been lately binge reading H.P Lovecraft stories so that’s the reason why there have been so much talk about H.P Lovecraft on this site lately. But lets go to the review shall we ?

The writing style was pretty good in this one, it really surprised me how good it was because I had low expectations for this short story.

The plot itself was pretty good, but it could have been better. There were parts where I connected with this story but I hard time connecting with the entire story which means no so high rating.

But I gotta admit that this short story is one of the darkest mythos in literature. Which I really didn’t mind because it was relatively good.

I give this short story 3 / 5

“The Beast in the Cave” By H.P. Lovecraft Review

A man touring Mammoth Cave separates from his guide and becomes lost. His torch expires and he is giving up hope of finding a way out in the pitch dark, when he hears strange non-human footsteps approaching him.

So, another boring short story from HP Lovecraft so fucking sad to see this happening. And that things which I’m talking about is that I don’t find myself enjoy most of his short stories. I’ve noticed that late last year I became very picky and it still is around.

However, its quite enjoyable and you will have fun time reading this one but nothing more than this. That’s at least how I felt about this short story.

The writing style here was pretty decent but again it could have been better than it actually was.

The scary part wasn’t existing in this short story for me which is really sad if you ask me. Because I want to feel scared and I want to enjoy his work more than I actually do.

I give this short story 1 / 5

“The Other Gods” By H.P. Lovecraft Review

Barzai the Wise, a high priest and prophet greatly learned in the lore of the “gods of earth”, or Great Ones, attempts to scale the mountain of Hatheg-Kla in order to look upon their faces, accompanied by his young disciple Atal. Upon reaching the peak, Barzai at first seems overjoyed until he finds that the “gods of the earth” are not there alone.

Let me be honest with you and say that the plot was boring. I had high expectations for it but it didn’t live up to them.

This one also felt to me like a follow-up story to “The Cats of Ulthar”, which I wasn’t a big fan of either.

The writing style isn’t bad, but it could have been better. The HP Lovecraft was missing from the writing style. Which really killed the story to me. The writing style is also difficult to read in this one.

The characters here are very flat. And that’s the thing which annoys me the most. As long as a story have good characters or character ill very probably give the story a good rating.

I give this story 1 / 5

“The Little Glass Bottle” By H.P. Lovecraft Review

In this little snippet of a story, a man finds a little glass bottle floating in the ocean containing a treasure map.

So this little short story is another attempt from HP Lovecraft to be funny and honours.

To me this short story felt a little but silly and it felt to me like a young HP Lovecraft wrote this story. Like the one HP Lovecraft who was just getting into writing.

I had hard time connecting with the main plot which this short story has. Which lead me to giving his short story a low rating.

The main plot wasn’t good. I always like to say that not good story had a potential to be better but this in this one I didn’t see any potential to becoming better than it actually was.

I give this story 1 / 5

“The Ancient Track” By H.P. Lovecraft Review

And today we take. Look at one of HP Lovecraft’s poem.

Gotta say that the entire plot to this poem wasn’t the best I’ve seen in a poem. Of course it had a huge potential to be better but as you see it wasn’t.

The writing style, it was okay for the most part. So i’ll pass that.

I need to give this poem points for giving us a nice little nocturnal trek vibe which I personally loved.

I give this story 1 / 5
