“The Push” By Ashley Audrain Review

The Push is a tour de force you will read in a sitting, an utterly immersive novel that will challenge everything you think you know about motherhood, about what we owe our children, and what it feels like when women are not believed.

Ive heard a lot of good about this book, and after reading this book I needed to be honest and say that it didn’t live up to my expectations.

This book is a kind of psychological thriller, and defiantly is uncomfortable to read at times but in my opinion that’s what made this book fun to read. Because it’s disturbing at times.

There are a lot of books with the same premise that the daughter is a monster but the way the author presents the story to us makes it unique. Because we are stuck with thinking about if the daughter is truly a monster or if its the mother who doesn’t love her daughter and thinking of her as an insane psychopath.

The writing style was pretty easy in this book, but at the same time it made this book so much easier and faster to read. Which really went well with this book. 

The majority of this book was very interesting and mysterious but the last 10% of this book really went downhill and pretty much destroyed the book for me personally.

The characters here are more or less okay. They seem flat most of the time, but there are times when they feel like real human beings. The characters here get some good moments here and there throughout the book, but these moments were really rare.

The dad in this book is too love blind towards his daughter and completely denies that there might be something wrong with his daughter even thou many people tells him that something might be wrong with her. This fact really made me angry and frustrated because we get a lot of events involving the daughter which makes it clear that she isn’t a normal child with normal child behaviour.  

This book has a good premise but the way it ended just ruined the entire book. Because we spend the entire book thinking if the daughter is a psychopath or if it just the mother who is overdramatising everything her daughter does. And the ending just pretty much summarises the whole book that the daughter is a psychopath and the mother is a overdramatising queen.

Once you have around 80 pages left of this book, the ending becomes very predictable and really leaves you annoyed, frustrated and unsatisfied.

And the ending really felt like you read this book a million times before. Due to its shitty thriller ending and how it surprised the plot of this entire book in one line. Which really made me want to throw this book against a wall or burn it.

“From Dead to Worse” By Charlaine Harris Review

After the natural disaster of Hurricane Katrina and the manmade explosion at the vampire summit, everyone human and otherwise is stressed, including Louisiana cocktail waitress Sookie Stackhouse, who is trying to cope with the fact that her boyfriend Quinn has gone missing. It’s clear that things are changing whether the weres and vamps of her corner of Louisiana like it or not. And Sookie, Friend to the Pack and blood-bonded to Eric Northman, leader of the local vampire community is caught up in the changes.

This book is very engaging to be fully honest here I didn’t expect that because of the 2 previous books in this series which were meh.

The plot here was slow at the beginning but it picked up a little bit at the end which really wasn’t enough for me because I wanted more action.

Even thou we get a little bit of the action we still get engaged in this book because there is a vampire war and a were war going on. Which I personally found very enjoyable and interesting. Because of the 2 wars going on in this book we get more information and details on both the vampires and the shapeshifters. And we get more info on the hierarchy on these both groups.

In a way we get 4 different storylines in this book because there is the vampire war going on, were war, sookie’s boyfriend going missing and sookie trying to survive everything. To be honest it was confusing to keep track of everything and what problem we are going through at each page.

The characters here are very likeable and the character development is amazing in this series. The characters are still are on the annoying side in this book but it doesn’t bother me anymore because over the 8 books I grown to like them. 

Even thou all these 8 books in this series so far take place in less than 1 year really don’t feel like it. It feels more like years went by because of the character development. Which really made me give this series a little bit of extra points.

“The Ultimate Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” By Douglas Adams Review

At last in paperback in one complete volume, here are the five novels from Douglas Adams’s Hitchhiker series. 

This book is a collection of 5 novels and one short story in the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy series. 

Ive already review each of these 6 stories last summer. So today I will be talking about the series as a whole due to this book containing the entire series. 

I really wanted to like this series because I’ve heard so many good things about this series, and so many people happen to love this series. But to be fully honest this series just doesn’t work for me. And after reading this whole series I feel very disappointed because I lean more to not liking it.

I made one mistake while reading this series, which is that I’ve read the whole series within 2 weeks. Which I’ve learned isn’t a thing to do because you might need time to process what you read.

The humour in this series was pretty good in the first book and the second book. But when I got to the third book and the rest of this series I became very tired and annoying. 

The whole series would have been better if it ended after the fourth book and just skip writing and publishing the fifth book. 

The fifth book is the last book in this series and it the weakest book in the whole series. Because it feels more like a book about family and past drama rather than a sci-fi book as the rest of this series. 

While reading this series, I came to be vert confused far too many times to count. Which really makes me not like this series even more.

The characters in this series, are very hard to tell something about them. Since in the first book they are very good but as the series goes on I came to dislike them more and more. 

The writing style in this series is very good in the first book but the same thing happens as with the characters. The writing style becomes worse and worse as the series continues.

I gotta be honest and say that this book is one of the best political books I’ve read so far. I personally am super interested in politics and books so why not start reading political books right? 

This book is about the voting rights and how black people and white people need and still need to face when it comes to the voting right in USA. We all know that USA have huge problems and this book shows that problems with voting rights is still relevant even at the end of 2023. Which is mind blowing to think about. 

This book starts with the Voter Rights Act in 1965 and it goes all the way to the Obama administration. Which is couple of decades and we truly see how little the voting rights have changed to be fully honest.

This book have good research in it which we get to see in this book. And this book provides us with evidence that voting rights issues are still relevant. 

The writing style here is amazing. The writing style really creates a soul in this book which I really enjoyed.

“Cinderella Is Dead” By Kalynn Bayron Review

I had really low expectations for this book, to be fully honest I expected to not like this book but after reading it I came to love this book. 

This book is a retailing of the cinderella fairy tale which everyone gets to hear many times during childhood. This book takes the cinderella fairy tale and puts it in a very dark places but in a very enjoyable way. 

This book shows us that believing in something too much can be a bad thing and that it can makes us super blind. But also this book shows us that a hero role isn’t only for men but also for women. 

The descriptions in this book are amazing, and they put a very clear picture in your mind. 

There is corruption, money and power using which really seems like real life situation due to the politicians now on days.

The world in this book is amazing, it has the fairy tale feeling to it but at the same time it feels like it is a real life place.

The characters in this book are amazing, they feel like real human beings. Because they are super relatable, and we can relate to their feelings because we all been in situations where it seems that what we want to do is impossible. 

The characters might have some lame and cheezy moments here and there, which really made it awkward at times. 

The writing style in this book is amazing, its very easy at the same time it was like the author knew what words to use to fully crab your attention and make you read for hours.

The ending has a huge twist to it, which really wasn’t expected. Which really make this book so much better.

“All Together Dead” By Charlaine Harris Review

Louisiana cocktail waitress Sookie Stackhouse has her hands full dealing with every sort of undead and paranormal creature imaginable. And after being betrayed by her longtime vampire love, Sookie must not only deal with a new man in her life—the shapeshifter Quinn—but also contend with the long-planned vampire summit. The summit is a tense situation. The vampire queen of Louisiana is in a precarious position, her power base weakened by hurricane damage to New Orleans. And there are some vamps who would like to finish what nature started. Soon, Sookie must decide what side she’ll stand with. And her choice may mean the difference between survival and all-out catastrophe.

This book was disappointing in a way. Because there were even more drama than in the previous book and even less action.

This book was for sure interesting and the mystery was intriguing. But the ending here was too fast and too abrupt for me personally.

The first 2 / 3 of this book was about the normal life to Sookie and how pissed off she is on Bill. And the last 1 / 3 was about an vampire hotel. The action in this book didn’t take more than 5 pages all together. 

However this book doesn’t disappoint with givings us more information and details on vampires, werwolves, fairies and in general the entire world of this series. 

The characters here are becoming more and more likeable. While reading the first book in this series I didn’t like Sookie but now I just love here. It might be because I used the time to read the series I just became used to her.

Every character gets more and more development with each book which makes men love them more and more. And because of this I grow to enjoy this series more and more. 

In this book we get way too little of Eric. But am glad that we get very little of Bill because for me he is the worst asshole there could be.

However the descriptions in the last part of this book were painful but also ridiculous during some moments.

The plot here goes up in a way for me because the plot starts to of in the fire section direction of a lot of deaths and violence in a way. I like it because I prefer vampires who wants to kill you and not kiss you.

Overall this book is very enjoyable, interesting and fun to read but at the same time it is very frustrating.

If I have to choice this book wasn’t my favourite book in this series. It might be one fact the second worst in this series so far for me personally.

“Zero to One: Notes on Startups, or How to Build the Future” By Peter Thiel Review

If you want to build a better future, you must believe in secrets. The great secret of our time is that there are still uncharted frontiers to explore and new inventions to create. In Zero to One, legendary entrepreneur and investor Peter Thiel shows how we can find singular ways to create those new things. 

To be fully honest I wanted to read this book for couple of years now, and I finally got the chance to do so. And after reading this book, I couldn’t help myself to put it as one of my favourite business books. 

This book is very enjoyable, interesting, knowledgeable and very easy to read. I read it one sitting which shows that its a really quick read. 

You will learn a lot from it. However some of the things might not go 100% with you but you will still learn at least something. 

The author gives us many good insights like “A great founder can bring out the best work from everybody at his company. But also many more which will make you think about a think or two. 

The writing style is very simple, which means that everyone will understand it. No matter if its a 15-year-old reading this book or a 60-year-old. The language is very easy, and it also has a lot of diagrams.

This book isn’t only a “how-to start a start-up” but this book also tells us how to survive the start-up phase of your company and make it one of the biggest companies in the world.

Even if you aren’t planning to start a company or a start-up this book is still worth reading, because it gives us insight on how companies like Apple, Google and Amazon went from small companies which no one really knew to being the biggest companies in the world.

“Cujo” By Stephen King Review

Outside a peaceful town in central Maine, a monster is waiting. Cujo is a two-hundred-pound Saint Bernard, the best friend Brett Camber has ever had. One day, Cujo chases a rabbit into a cave inhabited by sick bats and emerges as something new altogether. Meanwhile, Vic and Donna Trenton, and their young son Tad, move to Maine. They are seeking peace and quiet, but life in this small town is not what it seems. As Tad tries to fend off the terror that comes to him at night from his bedroom closet, and as Vic and Donna face their own nightmare of a marriage on the rocks, there is no way they can know that a monster, infinitely sinister, waits in the daylight.

I had a lot of expectations for this book which it didn’t live up to. Which really disappointed me because it was written by Stephen King my all time favourite author by far.

The story line in this book was not the greatest to be honest. The main theme in this book is a rabid dog named Cujo but we only see Cujo in 5% of this book. And the rest of it is just characters running around and freaking out about different things. Which really bored me out while reading it.

The characters in this book are very flat, very boring and very annoying. Which is the worst possible combination to ever exist. 

This book was one of Stephen King’s earliest books so I can give him a pass on this book. This book was also written during the time where Stephen King had alcohol problems. 

The writing style in this book really dint feel like something written by Stephen King. It might be because of the alcohol problems which I’ve talked already about. 

This book has over 400 pages but I read it in one day which means that it is a quick read once you make up your mind to read it in one day.

“The Last Command” By Timothy Zahn Review

This book is the last book in the 1990s Thrawn trilogy.

This book was very interesting and enjoyable. But also is a page turner. I read it in 3 sittings.

This book as the rest of the trilogy brings the old nostalgia or watching star wars for the first time. Because this book have all the things which the original star wars trilogy had which of course is bad vs good, heroism, action, battles, power struggle, romance, amazing characters and so much more. 

The plot in here is very good, and I personally had a very hard time trying to put it down once I’ve started reading. 

There is a lot of things happening in this book, and we get a lot of new character introduced. There are battles, there are amazing space ships journeys. 

The OG characters in this book which are of course Luke, Leia, Han, C-3PO, R2-D2, Chewie are still the amazing characters which we got to meet in the original trilogy. If I’m gonna be fully honest with you, they are even better in this book and this trilogy than in the original movie trilogy. 

We also get a lot of new characters in this book, (and series of course) like Mara Jade, Grand Admiral Thrawn but in this book Leia gives birth to twins Jacen and Jaina Solo. Which means that the Skywalker legacy becomes bigger. And I personally can’t wait to read more books with the twins and learning more about them.

In this book Mara Jade plays a much larger role than she did in the first two books in this trilogy. Which I loved, because we get a bigger chance to getting to know her and she is so good character with an amazing backstory which really makes her to an intriguing character.

The writing style here is amazing. This book and this trilogy really shows how good of an author Timothy Zahn really is. Because it feels like Timothy Zahn really know what words to use to grab your attention and not let you go until you finish.

The ending is so good that I don’t have words to describe it. And I can’t say too much without spoiling anything. But is the perfect ending to this trilogy and it fully left me satisfied that I read this book and the trilogy. 

However I have one problem with this book and trilogy as a whole. And that problem is that this trilogy should be canon not legends.

“Definitely Dead” By Charlaine Harris Review

Since Louisiana cocktail waitress Sookie Stackhouse has so few living relatives, she hates to lose one – even her cousin Hadley, undead consort of the vampire Queen of Louisiana. Hadley’s left everything she has to Sookie, but claiming that inheritance has a high risk factor. Some people don’t want her looking too deeply into Hadley’s past, or Hadley’s possessions. And they’re prepared to do anything in their power to stop her. Whoever it is, they’re definitely dangerous – and Sookie’s life is definitely on the line.

The plot here was kind of disappointing in a way because it contained too much drama and family problems than anything else. But every once and awhile we got some very fun and juicy moments which I personally came to enjoy a lot.

Of course there could be more action in this book than it actually was. In my opinion it would have made this book better. However this book doesn’t disappoint with givings us more information and details on vampires, werwolves, fairies and in general the entire world of this series.

The characters here are becoming more and more likeable. While reading the first book in this series I didn’t like Sookie but now I just love here. It might be because I used the time to read the series I just became used to her.

Every character gets more and more development with each book which makes men love them more and more. And because of this I grow to enjoy this series more and more.

In this book we also get a new character named Quinn, and he is the definition of an hot shapeshifter.

In a way I wished that this book would contain more of the vampire and werwolf action rather than spending 2/3 of this book on a cousin being killed and spending the time with on moving her stuff away from the apartment.

This book is very enjoyable, interesting and fun to read but at the same time it is very frustrating.
