“Cannon Hawke: Beginnings” By Olivia Chadha & Koi Turnbull Review

I gotta admit that one is probably one of the worst comic books I have read so far in my life. But of course I’m gonna explain everything in this review.

This comic book struggles to capture the reader’s interest because of how uninteresting it is. And how the author struggles to find the right way to present the story of the plot.

This comic book had a lot of potential to be good, but the narrative which was chosen it leaves much to be desired.

The plot in this comic book in a way is muddled and lacks a clear direction, which made it difficult for me personally to become invested in the story. And at the same time some key events in this comic book feels very rushed or at times also poorly explained, leading to confusion rather than excitement

The pacing of this comic book is very uneven, since there are moments in this comic book were the pacing is very slow and it drags on and on without stopping, but at other times the pacing becomes very fast and it just glosses over things which would make readers interested in the plot if they were explored more in depth.

The pacing is uneven, with slow sections that drag on and pivotal moments that are glossed over, leaving readers feeling disconnected from the action.

The characters in this comic book feel very shallow and flat. They are very one-dimensional and like they don’t have a lot of personality to them. The characters in this comic book lacks depth and relatable experiences and their motivations are often unclear, making it hard to find them likable or even interesting.

The character development in this comic book is non-existing. Since the characters doesn’t change at all throughout this comic book. And they are the same at the end as they were at the beginning.

The dialogues in this comic book feels very forced and very unrealistic. The conversations in this comic book often feel like filler, contributing little to character development or plot progression.

The artwork in this comic book aren’t that good as I hoped it would be. Because the artwork doesn’t compensate for the weak storyline and characterizations. And at the same time the artwork is very inconsistent throughout this comic book.

“Deadly #1” By James Fosdike Review

Australia’s population flees as the earth becomes toxic. Only the Aboriginals remain, determined to resuscitate the dead land, a land riddled with mutant carnivores, punishing heat, and lethal air. Vaughn discovers a lone child who can breathe the air without consequence – but he’s not talking.

I gotta admit that I had some high hopes for this comic book after I read the summary of this book but before reading this comic book. Because this comic book is sort of a apocalypse comic book, where Australia becomes a toxic waste land and only a few people remain there. But after reading this book is very disappointing to say at least. But let me explain everything in this review.

The premise for the plot was very good and interesting for me. But after reading this comic book I gotta sat that the author didn’t do a good job on this comic book. It would have been much better if the narrative of this comic book was different and started with telling the readers what happened which lead to the Australia becoming toxic and why only few people remained there. But no that doesn’t happen, instead it start right in the middle of it and we follow a character which find a child and tries to keep that child alive. Its very confusing to say at least, I personally didn’t know what was happening for the entire comic book.

To make it simple, the plot is convoluted and poorly executed which makes the entire comic book difficult to follow or get invested in the characters we get in this comic book.

Instead of getting a coherent plot in this comic book, we as readers are presented with a series of disjointed events that lack coherence and depth which why I said above that I was confused for the majority of this comic book.

The characters in this book are very boring and annoying. The reason behind this is that we don’t learn anything about them and we just follow them through random events in this comic book. The characters in this comic book feels like they weren’t done in a way, they felt like they were just outlines of characters without any specific traits or backstories.

Character development is almost nonexistent in this comic book, because the  protagonists feel very flat and one-dimensional, with motivations that are unclear or clichéd which of course I mentioned above.

The dialogues in this comic book are very weak, because they feel very stilted and lacks the authenticity which would make us as readers interested in them. We don’t get any form for engaging conversations, but what we do get is the dialogues which come off as awkward and like something a toddler would say as they learn to talk and they just throw in random words in the conversation as they go.

The artwork here is pretty bad, because it doesn’t help to improve the plot or improve anything for that matter. The artwork in this comic book lacks consistency and polish, making it hard to appreciate the visuals in the context of the story.

“The Motorcycle Samurai: The All-Star Hanukkah Special” By Chris Sheridan Review

Celebrate the festival of lights with an all-new MOTORCYCLE SAMURAI! ALL-STAR and his little friend, The Smasher, fight to free THE NEUTRON NINE and bring light back into the world.

I gotta admit that I wasn’t a big fan of this comic book. Is sort of a fantastical retelling of the origin of Hanukkah. But I don’t know much about the holiday, so I might be wrong here. Even thou I wasn’t a big fan of this comic book, I still think that it wasn’t the worst comic book I’ve read in my life. But I’m gonna explain everything in this review as always.

This comic book has in a way a unique concept for the plot but I wasn’t so much into it. If you don’t know, the concept of this comic book is a  blending motorcycle culture with a festive Hanukkah.

I found the theme of this comic book to be intriguing, but the way this comic book executes the narrative it leaves much to be desired. Because in my opinion it could have been so much better if the author took a different narrative to tell the story of this comic book.

I gotta admit that the storyline in this comic feels disjointed, and like it is lacking a cohesive flow that would keep readers engaged and interested in the story.

The characters in this comic doesn’t feel fully developed, which made it difficult for me personally to connect with their journeys or understand their motivations.

As of the character development in this comic book, there wasn’t anything of that in this comic book. Even if it was, it was very very hard to see it because the comic book starts and ends with the characters being exactly the same.

This comic book also seems to put humor as the center element of the plot, but for me the humor in this comic book often misses the mark, because it was relying on clichés too much rather than focusing on fresh, engaging content.

At the same time the dialogue in this comic book can feel at times very forced and unnatural,  which happen to be very detracting me from the overall reading experience.

When it comes to the artwork, I liked a fair share. Because it was vibrant but at times it felt like it was overshadows the narrative, leading to a disconnect between visuals and story.

“The Gwaii Preview” By Grant Chastain & Sean Patrick O’Reilly & The Great LP Review

SPECIAL 15-PAGE PREVIEW! An all-ages book from Arcana Kids! Tanu is a sasquatch lost in the Canadian wilderness who must face the Fearsome Creatures in order to find the clues that will lead him to his mother. Using his agility, speed, jumping ability, and a mean snowball-throwing arm, the young Sasquatch must find his way back home facing the most fearsome mythological creatures ever whispered about in the wild wilderness.

Before we start this review its important to say that this one, is just a preview of the full comic book. And with that being said lets talk about this preview and if its worth buying and reading the entire comic book.

From what this preview has to offer I can tell that the entire comic book has a very fun and compelling narrative which in a way made me captivated with it. But at the same time it does have a rich and vivid storytelling ability. And solely from those things I just mentioned I’m very interested in reading the entire cmic book and just this preview.

The other thing I noticed while reading this preview is that, the author and this particular story has a very good and fun world-building aspect to it, which in a way immersing readers in a beautifully crafted environment that evokes the spirit of the Gwaii region.

At the same time this story has a fun and very interesting blend  of prose and lyrical elements, which helps the story to have a unique reading experience for the readers. And it makes this entire story a very good read for both children and adults.

The characters in this story were so very good written and illustrated. Which really gave this story another aspect to it which really made me interested in reading the entire comic book and not just this preview.

Character development is another very strong point this preview has about the entire story because the protagonists are relatable. And the journey they got on makes them undergo a significant growth throughout the story.

The narrative of this story, which is also shown in this preview shows us that it is very engaging but also at the same time thought-provoking which would work on both children of all ages and on adults.

The writing style in this preview (and I hope it remains the same way in the full comic book) is very accessible yet poetic, making it suitable for a wide range of audiences.

This preview gives us also a fun aspect of this entire comic book, which is that the story has a theme of connection to nature but at the same time it has also a heritage undertone to it. Which I really liked because it shows that it gives us a more deeper meaning to the entire comic book and most just what we can easily define in one sentence.

However the only bad thing I have to say about this preview is that the pacing of this story may occasionally lag in certain sections. And this means that it drags for way longer than it needed to at certain moments even in this preview of the entire comic book. Which really in a way made me want to skip some parts of it, just to move forward with the story.

After reading this preview I gotta say that I will be reading the entire comic book at some point in time. I don’t know if I can fit it into this year because I have a lot of comic books and normal books I want to read this year but I will buy and read the entire comic book at some point in this year or next. Which depends on the time I have this year to read and how fast I can read the books and comic books I have planed to read this year.

“FCBD 2019: Avengers/Savage Avengers #1” By Jason Aaron & Gerry Duggan Review

Free Comic Book Day 2019 is the perfect chance to dive deep into the Marvel Universe with new stories and exciting adventures alongside some of Marvel’s most acclaimed creators – and this year, Marvel is bringing you the biggest and boldest stories yet! FCBD AVENGERS #1 features a story by industry superstars Jason Aaron and Stefano Caselli that sets the stage of the main Avengers series just in time for Marvel’s highly anticipated movie Endgame, while an all-new thrilling 10-page tale from Gerry Duggan and Mike Deodato creates one of the most unique, dynamic, and deadly versions of the Avengers ever- the Savage Avengers!

I gotta admit here that this comic book is very far from being one of the good Avengers comic book I’ve read in my time.  But let me explain everything in this comic book.

This comic book gives a crossover which aims in a way to draw readers into the action-packed worlds of both the Avengers and the Savage Avenger and at the same time to explore the MCU timelines and multiverses.

I need to be honest here I say that I was never fan of the MCU multiverse plots, since I found them way to boring and unnecessary since whats the point of creating a timeline make pump out of it a dozen movies and comic books if you gonna start dropping the multiverse onto the readers and say “hey that timeline doesn’t matter anymore since we have other more important timelines”. But I guess this is a personal thing since it varies a lot from person to person if they like the multiverse or not.

But what I liked about this comic book was the idea of merging the Avengers with a more brutal, savage team which I found to be very intriguing. Because in a way to gives us a dynamic clash of styles and personalities that could lead to exciting interactions.

The second thing I liked about this comic book was the artwork in this comic book. Since I found it to be a boast to the vibrant and energetic style of this comic book. But at the same time the artwork in a way is effectively showcasing the action and character designs. And of course the artwork gives us a highlight, capturing the essence of each character.

But what I really didn’t like about this comic book was the fact that the narrative feels disjointed and lacks a cohesive thread,  which makes it difficult in a way for readers to fully engage with the plot.

There were also pacing inconsistencies in this comic book. Because at times the pacing feels very rushed which makes it gloss over things which I found to be interesting but at other times it feels like it drags for too long at times which makes the whole comic book feel almost boring and uninteresting.

The other issue I found with this comic book was that certain key characters in this comic book seem to lack depth, resulting in interactions that feel superficial. And because of this I found it hard to connect with them and like them like I did in other comic books or even movies.

At the same time this comic book had a good premise, but the way it was executed and presented to us feels disappointing. It fails to capitalize on the potential drama and excitement that could arise from the clash between the two teams.

“Batman Special Edition (FCBD) #1: 2021” By John Ridley & James Tynion IV Review

The Batman creative team of James Tynion IV and Jorge Jimenez take their epic run to the next level. Gotham City is on the brink of a violent evolutionary path and the danger level to Batman and his allies reaches a fever pitch. The Magistrate now have full support from the mayor to handle high level law enforcement in Gotham and have branded the Dark Knight as Enemy #1. Plus, the Scarecrow has his own terrifying agenda as he takes this chaotic moment to launch his master plan. This is the first look at the epic FEAR STATE event that runs across the Batman titles beginning this Fall. The new Dark Knight, Jace Fox has arrived in this sneak peek of the upcoming I AM BATMAN series written by Academy Award-winner John Ridley with stunning art by Travel Foreman. Fans will get a taste of this blockbuster storyline starring the next Dark Knight.

I gotta admit that this comic book was a okay read for me. Even thou it wasn’t the best comic book I’ve read in my time.

This comic book is able to offer us a engaging story and very impressive artwork. But at the same time it falls short of fully capturing the depth and complexity that Batman fans often expect.

This comic in a way gives us new elements to Batman’s character and his relationships, particularly with supporting characters. Which I found to be very interesting. But at the same time it gives us more exploration of themes like legacy and responsibility which of course is a huge part of the Batman lore.

But at the same the the artwork in this comic book is very good, since its very beautiful and plays very well with the whole Batman theme of this comic book. At the sane time the artwork in a way complements the narrative’s tone of this comic book. There are a lot of times during this entire comic book where the artwork help to elevate key moments, making the action sequences and emotional beats more impactful.

However I have to admit that this comic book has a few issues here and there. One of those problems is the pacing of this book. Because at times it feels very rushed which makes it just gloss over certain intriguing aspects which weren’t explored in depth as they should have been.

The other problem for me with this comic book is that some character motivations could have been fleshed out more to enhance reader engagement. Because at times they feel very shallow and like there weren’t a lot of thought put into them.

The last problem I personally had with this comic book is the familiar tropes this comic book has. Above I said that the plot introduces new ideas which I liked. But the way the new ideas are introduced to us, makes it very similar to some Batman tropes we have seen a million times in other batman comic books or even batman movies.

“FCBD 2021: Avengers/Hulk #1” By Jason Aaron & Donny Cates Review

In a land beyond time, a shining tower stands, deploying its operatives across the Multiverse to hold against the encroaching darkness! Who is the mysterious Avenger Prime, and how will his advent impact on the past, the present, and the very future of the mighty Avengers? Plus, Donny Cates and Ryan Ottley present a story that leads into their upcoming run on HULK.

I gotta admit that this was far from being a good Marvel comic book, of course I haven’t read a lot of them yet but those I’ve read so far were so much better than this one.

We get two plot lines in this comic book, one is following the Avengers franchise continuation and the second it follows no other than Hulk.

This comic book had the potential to be very good because I found both stories to be fun and interesting. But I had a lot of problems with the pacing and coherence with both of those two storylines in this comic book.

There are times where both plots in this comic book feel disjointed in a way and they also feel like they somehow lack a clear direction of where they want to go with the plots presented in this comic book.

At the same time both plots feel very rushed in a way, and because of this some of the important and fun moments in the both plots are being glossed over rather than giving the readers a more in-depth experience if you will.

Because of those problems I mentioned about, both plots in this comic book makes it difficult for me at least to fully engage with the plot or get invested in the conflicts presented and invested in the characters we get in both plots.

I liked the artwork in both plots, but at times the artwork doesn’t quite elevate the both story in this comic book in a way. Which left me personally kind of disappointed. The artwork feels very dynamic with the plot and characters together, but there are times when the artwork feels very chaotic and cluttered especially if it comes to the hulk part of this comic book.

We all know at this point in 2025, that both Avengers and Hulk are pretty big and well established heroes. But this comic book makes them come off as superficial and as if they are lacking the depth and nuance that fans expect.

“Tank Girl: Free Comic Book Day 2018” By Alan C. Martin & Jamie Hewlett Review

As Tank Girl settles around the campfire with her friends to celebrate her big birthday, she recounts tales from her past that illustrate how she became the loveable, unhinged idiot that she is today. Written by series co-creator Alan Martin, with artwork by fan-favorite series artist Brett Parson and friends. Features classic cover by Jamie Hewlett.

I gotta say that this comic book was more of a “miss” for me rather than a “hit”. This comic book had some good moments to it but for the most part I found this comic book to be more on the boring side than anything else.

Its important to say that this comic book was my first time coming across Tank Girl, since I haven’t read any of the Tank Girl comic books before reading this one. Which might explain why I did give this comic book such a low rating as I did.

This comic book gives us a glimpse into the chaotic and irreverent world of Tank Girl, which for me didn’t work because I never read any of the Tank Girl comic books before this one as I said above so a big part of me not liking this one is because of the reason.

I gotta say that this comic book doesn’t give us a lot of action or anything close to action. The nearest we got into action was the Tank Girl punching her childhood bully on her each birthday every single year. Not thats a childhood issues being unresolved if you ask me and not really “action”.

What I liked about this comic book is the punk aesthetic and offbeat humor which this comic book has. And I gotta admit that I gave this comic book extra for.

The artwork in this comic book isn’t the best I’ve seen in a comic book. I don’t know if the artwork is the same in the rest of Tank Girl comics but I wasn’t a fan of it personally.

“Absolute Power 2024 FCBD Special Edition #1” By Mark Waid & Mikel Janín Review

The prelude to the biggest DC Comics event of 2024 is here! It’s a story 30 years in the making… and in this special Free Comic Book Day tale, the final domino to fall in an epic scheme comes tumbling down, and the DC Universe will never be the same. More details coming soon!

I gotta admit that the plot of this comic book is very very interesting, tis book isn’t as much about the DC Comics superhero as much as it is about Amanda Waller and all the shady things and experiments she been doing. Which for me personally was very interesting because I always thought that Amanda Waller was one of the most underrated characters from the DC Comics Universe.

The plot in this comic book is engaging, interesting, enjoyable and thought-provoking because this comic book talks about moral complexities of power and responsibility.

The dialogue in this comic book is very good because it the dialogues used in this comic book felt very realistic and something I would use in real life. Which in a way got me to give this comic book some extra points for.

The characters here are very good, because they have in a way a lot of depth and personality to them which can be seen through the drawings and dialogues of this comic book.

The narrative which is being used in this comic book has a sense of urgency and drama to it which I really liked because it kept me sitting at the edge of my sit during the entire read of this comic book.

“Free Comic Book Day 2021: Spider-Man/Venom #1” By Zeb Wells & Ram V. & Bryan Hitch & Al Ewing Review

Free Comic Book Day is the perfect chance to dive deep into the Marvel Universe with new stories and exciting adventures alongside some of Marvel’s most acclaimed creators – and this year, Marvel is bringing you the biggest and boldest stories yet! Plus, a Venom story written by Al Ewing & Ram V with art by Bryan Hitch that leads directlt into their run on VENOM. Starring Spider-Man and Venom!

I need to admit that this comic book is easily now my second favorite comic book so far in my life at least. Because it is very very good.

The spider-man part of this comic book is about spider man having a new suit and going into a hostage rescue missing. And I gotta say that a part of me didn’t want it to end because I found it to be so interesting and enjoyable. The entire spider man part really got me sitting on the edge of my sit during the entire read of that part.

As for the venom part of this comic book, I gotta say that it is just as interesting as the spider-man part of this comic book. But the plot of that really was something new to be since I never actually got around to where Eddie Brock and venom being the king(s) of all the symbiotes. Which really got me interested in that aspect and a part of me wished that the venom part of this comic book would have been much longer so that we really could put myself into the plot and how much potential it has for at least a very good short movie about venom.

There is a lot of action in both of the parts of this comic book, and the action is very very good. And I personally really loved reading that.

At the same time I gotta admit that the The artwork in this comic book, was very very good. It was very stunning and so beautiful which really speaks about how much time and effort the artist behind the drawings at put into this comic book.
