“Ancient Oak: Preview” By Sean Patrick O’Reilly & Chris Uminga Review

A princess struggles to save her Kingdom from an ever-lasting winter. Will a stranger save the Kingdom or destroy it? The Ancient Oak is an all ages fable that teaches the importance of doing the right thing.

Let me start this review by saying that this one is just a preview for the entire comic book. And I read it because I wanted to see if the full comic book was worth the money and time I would spend on it. And I’m gonna give you the answer for that at the end of this review.

I gotta admit that I really liked this preview, because it was very intriguing because of how we get introduction to a world steeped in mystery and nature.this previews gives a sneak peak which I was very interested in because you can see solely from the preview that the full comic book has a rich storytelling aspect as well as an artistic flair that the full comic book promises.

This preview you gives a captivating summary of the entire comic book which is combining elements of folklore with a modern sensibility. Which I personally found to be very interesting.

The narrative gives a sneak peak to a fun and rich enchanting world where nature plays a pivotal role. At the same time this preview you gives a balance between being accessible and thought-provoking aspect of the full comic book.

The characters we get to know in this preview have enough depth to intrigue, and their motivations are hinted at, leaving readers eager to learn more about their journeys. To be very honest here I really liked the characters in this preview so I really hope that they are at worst at least as good as in this preview.

The artwork in this comic is very beautiful, since it gives a unique style blends whimsical and dark elements, perfectly capturing the essence of the story. The artwork in this comic is bringing the characters and their environment to life which I gave this one a few extra points for. But also the artwork here is able to emotion through his art adds an extra layer of depth to the narrative, making each panel a visual delight.

But of course since this one is only the preview for the full comic book, it leaves us with a lot of unanswered questions, which may annoy a lot of people. And to be honest it did annoy me too a little bit, so thats the reason why I gave it 4 starts instead of 5 stars as I wanted to at first. Even thou it annoyed me, I understand that it can give us all the answers since its only the preview and the the thought process behind this is to leave people at a cliffhanger to get as many people as possible to buy and read the full comic book

“Star Wars: Free Comic Book Day 2015” By Miles Lane & Nicola Scott Review

Check out this precursor issue to Revenge of the Sith! With the battle between the Empire and the Rebel Alliance heating up, who will prove victorious? An explosive, high-flying adventure you have to read to believe!

I need to admit that its been a while since I read a good comic book, and you know what always does the job for me ? Of course its Star Wars comic books, I haven’t come across a bad Star Wars comic book yet at least so lets hope that it stays like this for a long time. But lets get back to the topic of reviewing this particular star wars comic book.

This comic book in a way beautifully captures the essence of what makes Star Wars so beloved. Which of course is a mix of adventure, rich character development, and the timeless struggle between good and evil.

The plot in this comic book is very engaging, interesting and very enjoyable. Because of how good is it made but also how accessible it is. At the time of writing this review, this comic book is a free on amazon for people who own an Amazon Kindle which means that you get this comic book for free which makes me give this comic book some extra points for that.

If you are looking to dive into Star Wars comic book universe, and haven’t done that already than I need to tell you that this comic book is one of the few comic book (I’ve read so far) that is very good for newcomers into the Star Wars comic book world.

I need to admit that the narrative of this comic book feels very authentic to the Star Wars lore, because tat the narrative is incorporating familiar elements while introducing fresh ideas.

The pacing of this comic book is very good. Because it isn’t too fast or too slow, its the right of amount of pacing or at least it was that for me even thou a part of me wished that this comic book could have been longer than it actually was. The pacing allows the action-packed sequences and quieter, character-driven moments to drive themselves in a way. The pacing allows both the action moments and the quieter moments to unpack themselves without forcing them to be faster or slower which I really liked about this comic book.

The artwork in this comic book is very beautiful and done in an amazing way. Its clear that the artist put a lot of time and effort to giving us as readers a good artwork which the readers would actually enjoy. The attention details in the artwork sort of brings the plot into life in a way on the pages.

This comic book delves into a lot of character relationships, particularly the bonds between heroes and their struggles. Which really made so much more interested in this comic book because of this aspect of this comic book

At the same time this comic book gave me a big nostalgia to the time when I was 5 or 6 years old and watched the Star Wars movies for the first time, which easily makes me give any star wars comic book, normal book or movie / show extra points for doing that.

“FCBD 2022: Avengers/X-Men #1” By Kieron Gillen & Gerry Duggan Review

Featuring stories by an all-star lineup of creators including writers Kieron Gillen and Gerry Duggan and artist Dustin Weaver, FREE COMIC BOOK DAY: AVENGERS/X-MEN #1 will lay the groundwork for an event that will erupt across the Marvel Universe in 2022 and drastically alter the relationship between Earth’s Mightiest Heroes and mutantkind.

This comic book is a crossover (if you will) between Avengers and X-men but you could also call this comic book for having 2 different stories in it. But we are here for the review, so lets get into the review without making the review longer than it needs to be.

The artwork in this comic book is very dynamic and fun. It captures the heroic essence of both stories in this comic book. And for me the artwork was my favorite part of this comic book for me. But its also important to say that the artwork at times doesn’t compensate for the lackluster storytelling in both of the stories in this comic book.

The narrative in this comic book isn’t the greatest. Because there are a lot of times in this comic book where it feels like the author of this comic book is struggling to find a cohesive narrative that does justice to such iconic characters as we get in this comic book and both of the stories.

The plot in this comic book feels very rushed and disjointed. Because it doesn’t go into much of details of the plot and at the same time it glosses over the parts of the plot which I found to be interesting and fun. At the same time the plot in this comic book lacks the depth and nuance that fans have come to expect from these franchises.

The plot in this comic book also gives us very predictable tropes, and at the same time the plot in this comic book offers us very little in terms of fresh ideas or engaging conflict.

The easiest way to explain in this comic book is to say that the plot feels very superficial skimming of the surface rather than giving us as the readers a fully developed plot.

The characters in this comic book feel more like caricatures of themselves rather than be the amazing character we are used to getting in other comic books about them and in the Marvel movies about both the Avengers and X-men.

There is another thing which annoyed me a to about the characters in this comic book. And the thing is that the interactions between characters, lack the chemistry and tension that fans crave.

The dialogues in this comic book feels very forced and unrealistic in a way, its almost like the writer was trying way too hard to give us good and heroic dialogues which would sound badass coming from a superhero but in reality its just not great.

Both the Avengers and X-men have their rich history, a deeper exploration of their relationships which would easily be a great comic book if only the writer knew what he was doing, but after reading this comic book I gotta say that I dont think that the writer knew what he was doing with this comic book.

“Free Comic Book Day 2022: Spider-Man/Venom #1” By Al Ewing & Ram V. Review

Fans who pick up FREE COMIC BOOK SPIDER-MAN/VENOM #1 will see the very beginning of the major storylines writer Zeb Wells and legendary artist John Romita Jr. have planned for their run on AMAZING SPIDER-MAN, including Tombstone’s first steps towards becoming Spidey’s most terrifying villain. FREE COMIC BOOK SPIDER-MAN/VENOM #1 will also give fans a chance to check out the thought-provoking work Al Ewing, Ram V, and Bryan Hitch are doing on VENOM! The groundbreaking changes this mastermind trio has in store for the symbiote mythos starts here!

I gotta admit that this comic book, is a very decent comic book from Marvel. The recent comic book I’ve read and reviewed weren’t that great as you might have noticed if you read my recent comic book reviews. But this one is pretty decent and so much better than them.

In a way this comic book offers us as readers an intriguing glimpse into the dynamic relationship between two of Marvel’s most iconic characters. But even thou I found this book to be fun and interesting it isn’t without its bad moment here and there throughout this comic book.

The storytelling in both the spider-man part and in the venom part is very good because both of the storylines are showcasing their contrasting personalities and moral complexities. But still both of the stories had their downsides at times, which in a way affect the rating I gave this comic book because of how I didn’t enjoy moments which weren’t that good.

The dialogue in both of the storylines presented in this comic book are in a way sharp, with moments of humor that feel true to character, particularly in the interactions between Spider-man and Eddie Brock aka Venom.

The narrative in both of the storylines in this comic book could have been better than what we actually got here. Because it feels rushed at times. It felt like the writer tried to cram too much plot and story into a limited space which of course this comic book is.

The artwork in this comic book is very good since its vibrant and sort of has the dynamic panel layouts to it which makes the plot a little bit more interesting. However, there are moments where the art feels overly stylized, potentially alienating readers who prefer a more traditional comic book aesthetic.

However the plots in both of the storylines feel more like an appetizer to get into Spider-man and Venom comic books rather than this comic book being a full storyline in itself.

“MAD Magazine 2024 FCBD Special Edition #1” By Various Review

America’s longest-running satire magazine continues to skewer everything pop culture, this time in comic book size! This Free Comic Book Day special edition of MAD features a wide variety of classic favorites like “Spy vs. Spy”, and “A MAD Look at…” by Sergio Aragonés. Plus, some maniacal mockeries of some of your favorite DC Superheroes, and a whole lot more from the Usual Gang of Idiots. This special edition will surely cure what ails you with a shot of humor in the jugular vein. And it is even cheaper than the usual CHEAP! Because it is FREE! So, you really would be an idiot if you didn’t go out and grab one!

I need to admit that I’ve heard a lot if good things about the Mad magazine, since its sort of like a satirical humor on superheroes, but after reading this one, I gotta admit that I wasn’t fun of this comic book if you can call it that.

I don’t know if it is just me, but I felt like the entire comic book felt very disjointed in a way. Because it was very confusing to me at first, since I never read this magazine before but after a while I started to get the hang of the comic book.

I know that a lot of people think that the magazine is funny, it could be just me or the this comic book but I didn’t find it funny. It safe to say that the humor in this comic book was clearly not meant for me. The humor in this comic book comes across as stale and uninspired.

But I have to admit that I liked some of the sketches and parodies in this one since they had sharp with, but the majority of them didn’t. And because of the fact that I didn’t like the majority of them, the entire comic book seemed boring and torturous to me which explains the low rating I had given this comic book.

The artwork in this comic book is very inconsistent. Because at times the artwork is very good but there are other times where the artwork looks like something drawn by a toddler. The inconsistency in this comic book really annoyed me because I don’t like it when a book, magazine or a movie I’m spending time on is different at times.

The pacing in this book is very uneven. Because some segments of this comic book drag on unnecessarily long.  While others are rushed, preventing any real connection with the material. Which really makes it difficult to immerse oneself in the humor or appreciate any deeper commentary the pieces might have been aiming for

“Spidey And His Amazing Friends (2024-) #1” By Steve Behling Review

It’s Spidey time! Swing into adventure with Spidey, Ghost-Spider, and Spin as they team up with heroic friends and face-off against Green Goblin, Doc Ock, and more! This new monthly comic features easy-to-read stories starring Peter, Gwen, and Miles from SPIDEY AND HIS AMAZING MY FIRST COMIC READER, perfect for young Spidey fans of all ages. Readers will also love testing their super smarts and skills with loads of fun bonus activities!

I gotta admit that this comic book was maybe not meant for me to read. Since its easy to see that this comic book is meant for children rather than adults. But since I already read it, I’m gonna review it anyways.

The plot in this comic book felt very rushed and at the same time very underdeveloped. Since it didn’t go anywhere deep with the plot but rather showed Spiderman with his 2 friends flaying through the city and not doing anything specific with the plot. As I said above its meant for children, but still you should have something fun and interesting about this comic book to make it fun for young readers to read this book rather than just be stuck at the fact that this comic book is about spider-man and nothing else that makes this comic book fun to read.

The plot, aims to introduce a new generation of readers to the beloved characters, but in doing so this comic book lacks the depth and creativity that fans have come to expect from Spider-Man stories. Which of course I already mentioned.

The dialogue in this comic book are very simplistic and often cringeworthy, which leads to be a failing process of capturing the wit and charm that make Spider-Man such an enduring character.

The only good thing about this comic book is the artwork that it has. But other than the vibrant and fun artwork, the artwork doesn’t help this comic book in another way. The artwork doesn’t to anything to elevate the overall experience of reading this comic book.

The main 3 characters of this comic book feel very generic and they seem like they don’t have any personalities to them other than being spider-mans.

The action scenes in this comic book come across as flat and uninspired, because anytime the action comes around in this comic book the plot rushed through them and doesn’t bother making the action fun but rather what Spider-man has to suffer through.

The pacing of the plot in this comic is very disjointed, because it either drags on for too long at times or just gives us a abrupt transitions that leave us readers feel very annoyed than anything else.

The narrative in this comic book does lack coherent flow in a way, which of course doesn’t make us as readers invest in the characters or their journey.

“FCBD 2019: Spider-Man/Venom #1” By Donny Cates & Tom Taylor Review

Everyone knows Miles Morales, who rose to fame in Marvel’s acclaimed animated sensation Into The Spider-Verse – and with a second feature film arriving this year, Peter Parker will once again suit up to save the world with his web-slinging super powers! In a special FCBD story, creators Tom Taylor, Saladin Ahmed, and Cory Smith take these superstar heroes of the Spider-Verse in a shocking new direction, with a story that will build to one of Marvel’s most fantastic and epic tales later this year! And prepare for absolute terror within the pages of FCBD, as an original Venom story by Donny Cates and Ryan Stegman sets the stage for what will become one of the most fearsome events in the Marvel Universe.

I gotta say that Marvel Comic books can do much better job than this comic book does. But of course I’m gonna explain everything in this review.

In a way this comic book  attempts to merge the worlds of Spider-Man and Venom. But in doing so it struggles to effectively capture the essence of both characters. Because as we all know both Spider-man and venom are very iconic characters from the Marvel universe at this point and this comic book doesn’t do its justice towards both of those characters in a way.

The plot we got in this comic book had a potential. But the way the narrative presents both of the stories in this comic book makes both of the plots boring and uninteresting in way, it would have been much better if we got a different narrative in both of the stories which would have made both stories so much better and so much more interesting.

There are times when the plot in both of the stories feel very rushed and even underdeveloped at times. Which really didn’t help me liking this comic book better than I already did.

The dialogues in both of the stories sometimes come off as forced or lacking depth, which made me little bit bored out and uninteresting form the overall enjoyment of both of the stories we get in this comic book.

The artwork in this comic book is good, but at times it feels very disconnected from the narrative which left me with feeling a little disappointed in the overall reading experience of this comic book.

The characters in this comic book felt in a way like a watered down versions of themselves. Which really disappointed me, because Venom is one of my top favorite characters from the MCU. And seeing him being watered down really made me dislike this comic book in a way.

In this comic book we also get the multiverse thing which MCU start doing in the last decade which really pissed me off, since I am not a fan of the multiverse and I prefer stinking to the original storyline rather than to the confusing and slightly annoying multiverse aspect of the MCU

“Cannon Hawke: Beginnings” By Olivia Chadha & Koi Turnbull Review

I gotta admit that one is probably one of the worst comic books I have read so far in my life. But of course I’m gonna explain everything in this review.

This comic book struggles to capture the reader’s interest because of how uninteresting it is. And how the author struggles to find the right way to present the story of the plot.

This comic book had a lot of potential to be good, but the narrative which was chosen it leaves much to be desired.

The plot in this comic book in a way is muddled and lacks a clear direction, which made it difficult for me personally to become invested in the story. And at the same time some key events in this comic book feels very rushed or at times also poorly explained, leading to confusion rather than excitement

The pacing of this comic book is very uneven, since there are moments in this comic book were the pacing is very slow and it drags on and on without stopping, but at other times the pacing becomes very fast and it just glosses over things which would make readers interested in the plot if they were explored more in depth.

The pacing is uneven, with slow sections that drag on and pivotal moments that are glossed over, leaving readers feeling disconnected from the action.

The characters in this comic book feel very shallow and flat. They are very one-dimensional and like they don’t have a lot of personality to them. The characters in this comic book lacks depth and relatable experiences and their motivations are often unclear, making it hard to find them likable or even interesting.

The character development in this comic book is non-existing. Since the characters doesn’t change at all throughout this comic book. And they are the same at the end as they were at the beginning.

The dialogues in this comic book feels very forced and very unrealistic. The conversations in this comic book often feel like filler, contributing little to character development or plot progression.

The artwork in this comic book aren’t that good as I hoped it would be. Because the artwork doesn’t compensate for the weak storyline and characterizations. And at the same time the artwork is very inconsistent throughout this comic book.

“Deadly #1” By James Fosdike Review

Australia’s population flees as the earth becomes toxic. Only the Aboriginals remain, determined to resuscitate the dead land, a land riddled with mutant carnivores, punishing heat, and lethal air. Vaughn discovers a lone child who can breathe the air without consequence – but he’s not talking.

I gotta admit that I had some high hopes for this comic book after I read the summary of this book but before reading this comic book. Because this comic book is sort of a apocalypse comic book, where Australia becomes a toxic waste land and only a few people remain there. But after reading this book is very disappointing to say at least. But let me explain everything in this review.

The premise for the plot was very good and interesting for me. But after reading this comic book I gotta sat that the author didn’t do a good job on this comic book. It would have been much better if the narrative of this comic book was different and started with telling the readers what happened which lead to the Australia becoming toxic and why only few people remained there. But no that doesn’t happen, instead it start right in the middle of it and we follow a character which find a child and tries to keep that child alive. Its very confusing to say at least, I personally didn’t know what was happening for the entire comic book.

To make it simple, the plot is convoluted and poorly executed which makes the entire comic book difficult to follow or get invested in the characters we get in this comic book.

Instead of getting a coherent plot in this comic book, we as readers are presented with a series of disjointed events that lack coherence and depth which why I said above that I was confused for the majority of this comic book.

The characters in this book are very boring and annoying. The reason behind this is that we don’t learn anything about them and we just follow them through random events in this comic book. The characters in this comic book feels like they weren’t done in a way, they felt like they were just outlines of characters without any specific traits or backstories.

Character development is almost nonexistent in this comic book, because the  protagonists feel very flat and one-dimensional, with motivations that are unclear or clichéd which of course I mentioned above.

The dialogues in this comic book are very weak, because they feel very stilted and lacks the authenticity which would make us as readers interested in them. We don’t get any form for engaging conversations, but what we do get is the dialogues which come off as awkward and like something a toddler would say as they learn to talk and they just throw in random words in the conversation as they go.

The artwork here is pretty bad, because it doesn’t help to improve the plot or improve anything for that matter. The artwork in this comic book lacks consistency and polish, making it hard to appreciate the visuals in the context of the story.

“The Motorcycle Samurai: The All-Star Hanukkah Special” By Chris Sheridan Review

Celebrate the festival of lights with an all-new MOTORCYCLE SAMURAI! ALL-STAR and his little friend, The Smasher, fight to free THE NEUTRON NINE and bring light back into the world.

I gotta admit that I wasn’t a big fan of this comic book. Is sort of a fantastical retelling of the origin of Hanukkah. But I don’t know much about the holiday, so I might be wrong here. Even thou I wasn’t a big fan of this comic book, I still think that it wasn’t the worst comic book I’ve read in my life. But I’m gonna explain everything in this review as always.

This comic book has in a way a unique concept for the plot but I wasn’t so much into it. If you don’t know, the concept of this comic book is a  blending motorcycle culture with a festive Hanukkah.

I found the theme of this comic book to be intriguing, but the way this comic book executes the narrative it leaves much to be desired. Because in my opinion it could have been so much better if the author took a different narrative to tell the story of this comic book.

I gotta admit that the storyline in this comic feels disjointed, and like it is lacking a cohesive flow that would keep readers engaged and interested in the story.

The characters in this comic doesn’t feel fully developed, which made it difficult for me personally to connect with their journeys or understand their motivations.

As of the character development in this comic book, there wasn’t anything of that in this comic book. Even if it was, it was very very hard to see it because the comic book starts and ends with the characters being exactly the same.

This comic book also seems to put humor as the center element of the plot, but for me the humor in this comic book often misses the mark, because it was relying on clichés too much rather than focusing on fresh, engaging content.

At the same time the dialogue in this comic book can feel at times very forced and unnatural,  which happen to be very detracting me from the overall reading experience.

When it comes to the artwork, I liked a fair share. Because it was vibrant but at times it felt like it was overshadows the narrative, leading to a disconnect between visuals and story.
