“The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon” By Stephen King Review

On a six-mile hike on the Maine-New Hampshire branch of the Appalachian Trail, nine-year-old Trisha McFarland quickly tires of the constant bickering between her older brother, Pete, and her recently divorced mother. But when she wanders off by herself and then tries to catch up by attempting a shortcut, she becomes lost in a wilderness maze full of peril and terror.

To be honest I didn’t know a lot of about this book before going into it. And that turned out to be the best thing for me.

The plot here isn’t a horror but rather a thriller about a child being lost in the woods for long time. The plot is for sure eerie because the thought of a child being lost woods is really scary.

This book made me realise that I would be fucked if I was lost in the woods. I have no survival skills and I wouldn’t know what to do if I was lost in the woods other than have a full on panic attack.

The main character in this book is probably the worst character ever written by Stephen King. Her thoughts never felt like the thoughts of a nine-year-old but rather as an old veteran of camping.

The side characters here, were gone for the most of the time so I didn’t even have a chance to really pin point them or have a lot of thoughts about them other than if I like them or not. And let me tell you that I didn’t like them.

The writing style didn’t go well with me. Because it felt like Stephen King was trying way too hard to rebrand to a different genre than of the horror.

Overall I had expectations for this book because it was written by my favourite author of all time. But it didn’t live up to any of them.

I found this book boring and uninterested. This book didn’t go well with me. But there were moments which I liked. But these moments were very rare.

“Star Wars: The Mandalorian Junior Novel” By Joe Schreiber Review

After the fall of the Empire but before the emergence of the First Order, a lone bounty hunter known as The Mandalorian travels the outer reaches of the galaxy. When his newest bounty hunting target turns out to be a small Child, the Mandalorian decides the Child must be protected at all costs. Relive all the excitement of the first season of the smash-hit streaming series in this action-packed junior novel by Joe Schreiber! Includes an insert of color photos from the show!

If you love The Mandalorian series as much as I do than you will love this book as well. This book is the novelisations of the first season of the series.

This book is very quick to read, it’s interesting, its enjoyable and so much more. This book is as well a very easy read because this book is meant for kids between the ages of 9 and 12 if I remember correctly. But the age doesn’t matter as long as you are a star wars fan as I am.

The plot here is the same as in season one of The Mandalorian. Some moments from the series aren’t in the book, but the plot itself is there in this book. Because of some moments from the show aren’t here in the book it makes this book a little less fun than the show but still it is worth the time and money.

The characters here are the same as in The Mandalorian series. But to be honest the characters are better done in the show than in this book but I still loved the characters and their development during the book.

However there are couple of moments here and there where this book gives us a little extra insight into the characters as it goes on. There aren’t a lots of these moments but they are there.

The writing style in this book is very easy and simple as I’ve mentioned above. Because it was meant for the younger readers of the franchise. But it is good if you want to turn of your brain and do something fun while relaxing after a difficult day.

“Carrie” By Stephen King Review

A modern classic, Carrie introduced a distinctive new voice in American fiction — Stephen King. The story of misunderstood high school girl Carrie White, her extraordinary telekinetic powers, and her violent rampage of revenge, remains one of the most barrier-breaking and shocking novels of all time.

To be fully honest here, I wanted to read this one for ages it feels like. And now I finally did.

I had a lot of expectations for this book which unfortunately this book didn’t live up to them. Sure it was okay but nothing more than that.

This book was fun, inserting, enjoyable and most of all it had the eerie feeling to it. From the first sentence in this book, you can feel the huge eerie vibe to it and you know that the events in this book won’t be good.

This is the first book written by Stephen King, so of course its rough at the edges and it doesn’t have the same scariness as his later work had but while reading it you can tell that it is a Stephen King book and that the master of terror is in the making.

In my opinion Stephen King in this book overuses detail-cheating adverb, which made me give a lower rating than I wanted due to it distracting me at times and pulling the attention away from the main action.

The narration throughout this book is good, it wasn’t the same level of amazing as Stephen King’s later work but it was still surprisingly good for being the first book written by Stephen King.

The plot here was good, it has a huge scary moment which I think everyone knows which moment I talk about. The scene is the main reason why this book is the modern day classic which this book should be.

The characters here was okay for the most part. They weren’t the best but they weren’t the worse neither.

There were moments that were boring and uninteresting. Which really disappointed me. Because I was expecting so much more from Stephen King.

The ending here was just wow, it was very good. I can’t really say a lot without making spoilers. But the ending was a huge reward after reading this book.

“Dead to the World” By Charlaine Harris Review

Sookie Stackhouse is a cocktail waitress in Bon Temps, Louisiana. She has only a few close friends, because not everyone appreciates Sookie’s gift: she can read minds. That’s not exactly every man’s idea of date bait – unless they’re undead; vampires and the like can be tough to read. And that’s just the kind of guy Sookie’s been looking for. Maybe that’s why, when she comes across a naked vampire, she doesn’t just drive on by. He hasn’t got a clue who he is, but Sookie has: Eric looks just as scary and sexy – and dead – as ever. But now he has amnesia, he’s sweet, vulnerable, and in need of Sookie’s help – because whoever took his memory now wants his life.

This series continues to be cringe and very YA. But this book is the best book in this series so far.

In this book we get less of Bill which I became super happy about because I am not the biggest fan of Bill. And the less time we spend with him, the happier I become.

In this book we get a lot of the amazing Eric and Sookie’s chemistry which overtime I came to like and enjoy a lot.

The plot is very engaging and interesting but at the same time very simple. The plot doesn’t need any brain power to have fun with this book.

The writing style here is very typical YA. But it makes an amazing mix with the plot because they both are very simple.

The characters in this book and in this series as a whole tend to be on the annoying side when you first get into it. But after reading this book I came to like Sookie (the main character) and some of the side characters like Eric, Jason and Sam. But the majority of the characters I don’t care what happens to them.

The action in this book was the best so far in this series. There is so much happening at the end which complete made me love this book.

The beginning was on the slow side which really made me wish that it contained more action or something to make it more interesting rather than something to fill the pages with.

“Fifty Shades of Grey” By E.L. James Review

When literature student Anastasia Steele goes to interview young entrepreneur Christian Grey, she encounters a man who is beautiful, brilliant, and intimidating. The unworldly, innocent Ana is startled to realize she wants this man and, despite his enigmatic reserve, finds she is desperate to get close to him. Unable to resist Ana’s quiet beauty, wit, and independent spirit, Grey admits he wants her, too—but on his own terms.

I never thought that I will come down to read this series. But here we are. After reading this first book in the series I need to admit that most of my suspicions about this series came true.

The characters here are very very bad. Anastasia a typical dumb college student who falls in love with a guy who is a prick and who uses his partners as sex dolls. When it comes to Christian he is a rich prick who refuses to see his own faults and who thinks that he can use women as whores as long as he buys them things.

For the most part Anastasia is annoying and very blind when it comes to Christian. She refuses to see that Christian is fucked up and that he is the worst creep. But at times she is somehow likeable, these moments made me like her a little bit.

The plot, well I don’t have to say a lot about it because most likely everyone knows the plot here. There is abuse, sex and nothing enjoyable for the most part.

At times the plot have been interesting but most of the time while I was reading it I was thinking “why am I reading it?”. That pretty much summarises my whole feeling about this book.

The writing style was the best thing about this book. It was very good, and it made this whole book so much better. The writing style made you feel like you been there and watching everything that happened rather than reading a book.

There wasn’t so much drama in this book as I’ve suspected, which really made me glad  because if it was a lot of drama in this book I would quickly DNF it.

“The Complete Fairy Tales ” By Hans Christian Andersen Review

Hans Christian Andersen was a Danish author and poet. Although a prolific writer of plays, travelogues, novels, and poems, Andersen is best remembered for his fairy tales, a literary genre he so mastered that he himself has become as mythical as the tales he wrote. Andersen’s popularity is not limited to children; his stories – called eventyrs, or “fantastic tales” – express themes that transcend age and nationality.

To be fully honest here I didn’t have a lot of expectations for this one. Which turned out to be a good thing.

Ive already reviewed each fairy tale, so in this book we will talk about this book as a whole rather than going deep down in each fairy tale.

This book is a collection of all the fairy tales which Hand Christian Andersen written. And to be honest I wasn’t the biggest fan of the 99% of them. The reason might be reading children’s fairy tales as an adult.

The cover of this book is completely stunning and it would be an amazing add to my bookshelf to keep even thou I wasn’t a fan of it.

In my opinion fairy tales doesn’t make a good story because they are meant to be show morality rather than being entertaining. However it this book would make an great gift for a child below the age of 12.

The majority of the fairy tales are very depressing. And they made me sad at times while reading them and after finishing them.

The writing style to Hans Christian Andersen is very easy and simple. Which means that all ages can read it.

All the fairy tale are easy to read and at the same time pretty quick as well.

“Billy Summers” By Stephen King Review

Billy Summers is a man in a room with a gun. He’s a killer for hire and the best in the business. But he’ll do the job only if the target is a truly bad guy. And now Billy wants out. But first there is one last hit. Billy is among the best snipers in the world, a decorated Iraq war vet, a Houdini when it comes to vanishing after the job is done. So what could possibly go wrong?

The best way to describe this book is to say that it is Stephen King’s story meeting up with Jack Reacher.

This book started off very good, but the more it went on the worse it got for me personally. Because it begins as a very good hitman story and then it turns out to this loving grandpa story where this hitman turns into this badass grandpa.

To be honest I didn’t care for the characters in this book. Because they were really like flat. Of course they had very good backstories for the most part but they weren’t speaking to me.

The writing style here was very good. It was the best part of this book for me at least. It was pretty on the level with Stephen King.

This book is a really quick read and it is good to read if you looking for a book where you can turn off your brain for a bit.

There is a big wink to The Shinning at the end of this book where the Overlook Hotel is mentioned.

“Club Dead” By Charlaine Harris Review

Things between cocktail waitress Sookie and her vampire boyfriend Bill seem to be going excellently (apart from the small matter of him being undead) until he leaves town for a while. A long while. Bill’s sinister boss Eric has an idea of where to find him, whisking her off to Jackson, Mississippi to mingle with the under-underworld at Club Dead. When she finally catches up with the errant vampire, he is in big trouble and caught in an act of serious betrayal. This raises serious doubts as to whether she should save him or start sharpening a few stakes of her own

The book series gets better and better with each book so far. Im still not the biggest fan of this series but I find it enjoyable.

The plot here is good but it had the potential to be even better if some of the events would be better written and described.

The writing style here is okay. To be fully honest the written style in this book and in this whole series so far is very typical YA style. But it is a good mix with the easy plot.

The characters here are meh. The only character which I really like in this book and in this whole series so far is Eric and the rest of the characters in this book are okay. But they could have been better.

All of the characters tend to be more on the annoying side than on the likeable side but I still had my fun with them.

This book and this whole series is a very good pick when you want to escape the reality but you don’t want to use brainpower.

This book was a very slow especially in the beginning. Which really made me want for it to be faster and more action than what it really was.

“Regretting You” By Colleen Hoover Review

Morgan Grant and her sixteen-year-old daughter, Clara, would like nothing more than to be nothing alike. Morgan is determined to prevent her daughter from making the same mistakes she did. By getting pregnant and married way too young, Morgan put her own dreams on hold. Clara doesn’t want to follow in her mother’s footsteps. Her predictable mother doesn’t have a spontaneous bone in her body.

So I finally decided to read a Colleen Hoover book after watch all the hype with her books on TikTok for months. And I need to say that this book was what I expected it to be.

After reading this book I’ve learned that 99% of the hyped authors or books aren’t for me. Because every time I end up being disappointed in waisting my time and money.

The entire plot in this book is the husband cheating on his wife with her sister and having a kid with her. But the wife learns about this after her husband and sister get killed in a car accident. Because of this the wife stars to have an affair with her sister’s fiancé and her daughter starts to act up and become an insufferable teenager who drinks, takes drugs, is pissed all the time at everyone etc.

However I need to say that the plot was okay at times, but most of the time I wanted to DNF this book, because the majority of this book was a torture.

The characters in this book were super weak, boring and stupid. Miller and Jonah were pretty decent characters which really surprised me. Clara and Morgan the two main characters here were super insufferable. Because they made more stupid choices with each page.

Clara and Morgan truly made me feel at times that Colleen Hoover didn’t have any idea about writing a female character. And at times it felt like Colleen Hoover painted female characters in this book just as these crying maniacs who could only argue with each other and cry.

Clara was particularly an incredible bad character. She is 16 / 17 years old in this book but all the time she was super immature, and she blamed everyone else for her own mistakes. At one point she yelled and blamed her boyfriend for using her even thou she used him for sex to hurt her mother.

Morgan is the wife of the story. When she found out that her husband cheated on her with her sister and got her sister pregnant. She decided to let her 16-year-old daughter hate her and act up and do drugs and drink alcohol instead of her telling her the truth about her dad and aunt.

The writing style here was probably the best thing about this book. It wasn’t the good or even close to it. But it was far better than the plot and all of the characters in this book.

“On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft” By Stephen King Review

“Long live the King” hailed Entertainment Weekly upon the publication of Stephen King’s On Writing. Part memoir, part master class by one of the bestselling authors of all time, this superb volume is a revealing and practical view of the writer’s craft, comprising the basic tools of the trade every writer must have. King’s advice is grounded in his vivid memories from childhood through his emergence as a writer, from his struggling early career to his widely reported near-fatal accident in 1999 — and how the inextricable link between writing and living spurred his recovery. Brilliantly structured, friendly and inspiring, On Writing will empower and entertain everyone who reads it — fans, writers, and anyone who loves a great story well told.

This book was a very short story about Stephen King’s life and some of his advises which he has for people who want to become writers.

This book have a lot of really good advice for people who want to start writing books which I personally enjoyed reading.

This book is a really quick read. It is as well interesting, enjoyable and fun to read. But there are couple of moments here and there which made me personally bored.

This book gives us a view to him as a person and what he does when he is writing his amazing novels. Which I personally liked to learn about.

The writing style here was pretty okay. It felt like classic Stephen King writing style but I personally felt like there was something missing when it comes to writing style in this book.

For the most part this book was a mix of an autobiography and an advice book to new writers or people who want to become authors.
