“Common Sense” By Thomas Paine Review

An immediate sensation across the thirteen colonies, Common Sense extolled Paine’s belief that government should be simple and represent the will of the people, acting not as an oppressor but as a body to protect society. His clear and persuasive argument appealed to the common people, impressing on them the importance of secession from Great Britain. Six months after Common Sense was published, independence was declared, and the American Revolution was born.

Before we get into this review I need to say that I was prepared to severely don’t like this book, but after reading it I actually think that it is a solid read.

I gotta say that after reading this book, I believe it should be forced onto current politicians to read this book because 90% of the politicians we have now seem to be lacking a lot of common sense (the pun intended by the way)

If you are interested in politics as I am, then you really should read this book because it touched on a lot of political points which everyone interested in politics should think about at some point. This book also asks a lot of political questions which are really inserting to think about like “should we seek Reconciliation with England or Independence from her?”.

The writing style in this book is pretty outdated. Because it was published in 1776, which is solid 249 years ago, so in that time the language used have changed its fair share.

I really recommend this book for everyone to read, because it talks about history and politics. Even thou a lot of this book is outdated and the heavy old English might not be likable for a lot of people.

This book is a very short read because it barely above 100 pages. And I personally read it in under 2 hours in one sitting. Which really shows that good book doesnt need to be long to still be good.

I Give This Book 3 / 5

“From the Ashes of Sobibor: A Story of Survival (Jewish Lives)” By Thomas Toivi Blatt Review

Blatt’s account of his childhood in Izbica provides a fascinating glimpse of Jewish life in Poland after the German invasion and during the period of mass deportations of Jews to the camps. Blatt’s tale of escape, and of the five horrifying years spent eluding both the Nazis and later anti-Semitic Polish nationalists, is a firsthand account of one of the most terrifying and savage events of human history.

I had a lot of expectations for this book since I like a lot holocaust books especially  about people telling their tell of how it was surviving the holocaust but this book didn’t live up to my expectations.

I don’t know what it is about this book but I couldn’t finish it because it was so torturous for me to read it.

The writing style was very off-putting because it was like very very heavy even for a book about the holocaust. Even the school books have better writing style than this book.

The plot here is all over the place in this book. Because first its talking about the main character being a jew and hiding the fact and working at a warehouse where German officers would store their motorcycles and then the next second the plot is talking about the person’s penis swelling up. Like were is the connection there ?

This book is very uninteresting and boring. And if you are looking fir a good holocaust book then this book isn’t for you.

Well I don’t want to be too harsh about this book because its a Memoir about someone’s experience under the holocaust. So this review will be very short

“The Pacific” By Hugh Ambrose Review

Between America’s retreat from China in late November 1941 and the moment General MacArthur’s airplane touched down on the Japanese mainland in August of 1945, five men connected by happenstance fought the key battles of the war against Japan. From the debacle in Bataan, to the miracle at Midway and the relentless vortex of Guadalcanal, their solemn oaths to their country later led one to the Great Marianas Turkey Shoot and the others to the coral strongholds of Peleliu, the black terraces of Iwo Jima and the killing fields of Okinawa, until at last the survivors enjoyed a triumphant, yet uneasy, return home.

This book took me awhile to read, due to its size and my low motivation for reading it.

This book is an addition to the HBO miniseries with the same name. I personally haven’t watched the miniseries as of the time of writing this review, so I can’t say much about the miniseries.

I personally enjoy books about WW2 but this book was very uninteresting and boring at times for me personally.

This book is more about presenting us with the highs and lows of the second world war. And we see the story through the eyes of those that did the fighting at the lowest levels. Which haven’t work for me personally.

The writing in this book is very the true hell, because its very boring, demotivating and tortuous. The whole writing style felt like the author was trying to give us a book which would kill your enjoyment of reading books.

When I had around 27% left of this book, I just couldn’t take it anymore and I ended up with DNF-ing it.

However it would have been much better if the author wrote multiple books about subjects rather than just squeezing everything together in one book and hope for the best.

“Spowiedź Hitlera. Szczera rozmowa z Żydem” By Christopher Macht Review

At the time of writing this review this book is only available in Polish and in German.

There is one thing to keep in mind when going into this book which is that this book is more of a historical fiction rather than fully historical.

This book has many illustrations and it is pretty quick to read. Due to the writing fond being pretty large.

Even thou this book is a historical fiction, this book is still interesting as a biography of Hitler if you don’t want to get into the massive books about Hitler.

The conversation between hitler and Eduard Bloch are pretty short but you get a huge insight into Hitler. Because the conversation really shows in a way his true face.

However this book shows us Hitler as a human and nice person who loves children and animals rather than the guy who gave the order to kill millions of innocent people in concentration camps.

The writing style in this book is pretty easy and simple. This fact makes this book so much easier to read and so much faster to read as well.

Some things which are said in this book aren’t true, and you will very easily see it if you haven seen some documentary movies about Hitler or if you simple fact check the some details.

However this book is a really good start if you want to get into historical books.

“Mirrors: Stories of Almost Everyone” By Eduardo Galeano Review

Throughout his career, Eduardo Galeano has turned our understanding of history and reality on its head. Isabelle Allende said his works “invade the reader’s mind, to persuade him or her to surrender to the charm of his writing and power of his idealism.”Mirrors, Galeano’s most ambitious project since Memory of Fire, is an unofficial history of the world seen through history’s unseen, unheard, and forgotten. As Galeano notes: “Official history has it that Vasco Núñez de Balboa was the first man to see, from a summit in Panama, the two oceans at once. Were the people who lived there blind??

So this book isn’t a typical book because it is rather a collection of very short summarises of everything.

Some of these so called short stories were good, but most of them weren’t. And it kind of annoyed me that a lots of these short stories were about religion. Because I personally I’m the biggest atheist which you can imagine.

The writing style in this book was okay but it could have been better than it actually was. But it is too late to change it now.

One of the things which an annoyed me the most with this book was that it jumped too much around. And I hate when this happened.

The reason why I read this book was that someone recommend it to me for whatever reason. And after reading it I don’t know why this person has recommended this book to me. Because I didn’t like anything about this book

I give this book 1 / 5
