“The Secret” by Rhonda Byrne Review

The Secret contains wisdom from modern-day teachers—men and women who have used it to achieve health, wealth, and happiness. By applying the knowledge of The Secret, they bring to light compelling stories of eradicating disease, acquiring massive wealth, overcoming obstacles, and achieving what many would regard as impossible.

This book is another sort of a mix of nonfiction and self help book which as we all know some people will love and others will hate it. And there is nothing between hate or love when it comes to books like this.

The whole idea is pretty good. Because it’s for the most part that “good attracts good” and “bad attracts bad” which sort of make sense which a lots of self help book lacks now on days.

The writing style is bad, for the most part the writing is nothing but “do this and this will happened if you believe”. The writing style will make some people hate this book. Because it almost feels like the author didn’t care about putting good enough effort to this book. And all she did want is to collect pay checks for this book.

This book could have had the potential to be so much better if the author would just cut out the quotes of other people and but more effort in the writing style.

The whole book for the most part is just a collection of quotes from doctors, scientist, random people and the rest of humanity. And there is no origin story to “the secret” or something supporting that’s the real thing. All we get is that Albert Einstein believed in it and it’s real.

There is no background to it and no evidence to it. If you want to believe it, no one on this blog is telling you that you can’t. I’m just saying that some people needs evidence supporting everything.

I give this book 4 / 5

“Inkub” by Artur Urbanowicz Review

Two eras. Two stories. One village. One witch. One curse. Imagine you can do anything. Even cheat death. A young district attendant, who soon commits suicide, has a keen interest in the mysteries of the village. The case of his death is being investigated by Vytautas Česnauskis, a policeman of half Lithuanian origin from the municipal headquarters in Suwałki. He discovers that Jodozior’s dark history has its roots in the seventies

This book has around 730 pages, which may scare off some people. Because you will need at least 2 – 3 weeks to finish it. And this size scared me at the beginning and I needed couple of weeks to actually start reading it. But when I began reading it, I read this book in 2 weeks.

The whole plot of this book felt to me at least really overrated because there are dozens and dozens of books about witches, curses and haunted houses. But Artur Urbanowicz in this books shows us that you can actually write something original, unique and good in the topics which now on days are overrated.

Ive done some research and I found out that this story is based on a true real life legend of a village in the Suwałki County in Poland. The whole legend is very similar to this book when it comes to the basics here. Which are allegedly a witch living in a small village who had create a curse on a village. But let’s go back to the book.

In this book Artur Urbanowicz really shows that not only Stephen King can write brilliant, scary and creepy books with eerie moods to them.

This book is written in a similar way to “It” by Stephen King because it involves two different time periods in it. And every chapter goes from 1971 to 2016 and back to 1971. However I personally felt that this was very annoying in “It” by Stephen King because it was too long and a lots of parts could have been edited out, but this book was different then “It” by Stephen King. Everything which is in this book feels like it needs to be there just to see the whole picture of this book which it presents to its readers.

Because of the reason that this book goes back and forth between 1971 and 2016, the reader feels like we are lost somewhere in time. Because of the reason that we see the two stories from two different points in life happening side by side.

This book (at the time of writing) has not been translated to English or any other language except of polish. But I do hope it will be soon for all fans of the horror genre. Because this book is something which every horror reader and horror fan should read. Because this book shows that a you can get a different perspective on a topic which now on days with all these games, books and tv shows have been over used so many times.

I need to say that it is sort of hard to get into this book for the first couple of chapters but as the story reveals that there might be something more to the infamous village it sort of drags you in and you cant stop reading it.

The writing style itself can be compared with Stephen King. Because this book holds onto you until you finish it, and it really stays in your mind for a long time. The writing style in this book makes you feel like you are a part of the story and like you are following the main characters from 1971 and 2016.

The atmosphere in this book seems like a cross between Edgar Allan Poe and Stephen King. Because you have the witch character which

sort of gives you the gothic vibe because of the black dress she uses and as well as the demons, ghosts and hallucinations which Stephen King really loves you use in his books.

The ending is a banger. Because it ends with a juicy and big cliffhanger. Which really makes you want that this book would have a sequel to it, but you know after finishing this book that the sequel would ruin the whole fun you had with this book.

For a really long time I personally was waiting to read so good book as this one. Since “outsider” by Stephen King which was in November of 2020, I haven’t read anything that good.

I give this book 5 / 5

“The Art Of War” by Sun Tzu Review

This book is military strategy book which is based on Chinese warfare and military thought. Since that time, all levels of military have used the teaching on Sun Tzu to warfare and civilization have adapted these teachings for use in politics, business and everyday life.

Its important to say that for some people this book may be out of their comfort zone because it is a military based book which basically tells us how we should lead a military army in the right way. However this book is good to show us how a good leader should behave. No matter if that person is leading an army, a business or just a group projects at work or school.

It is save to say that this book will more or less help you to master some strategist which are mentioned in this book. But for some people this book might be boring or the stuff which are told in this book will not help you out.

The whole book goes around the idea of “The wise warrior and leader avoids battles and wars”.

Sometimes books about war tactics or war in general might be harsh, boring, confusing, destruction, death and all sad things that are results of a war. However this one is different, I would recommend this book to people who wants to get into the war genre field. Because this book is unique and gives you new ideas as well as linking it to the war tactics theme.

This book as well gives us an amazing insights to the war tactics field as well as the insights to the ancient Chinese military.

The writing style is amazing, it really sets the vibe to this book which drowse you in even more into this book. After reading this book, I really wish that more war books could have been writing like this one or even similar to this one.

Of course this book is one of the classics which everyone needs to read in their life time.

You will learn few things while reading this book. You will also become a somehow better leader after reading this book, or must of you.

I give this book 4 / 5

“Hidden Bodies” by Caroline Kepnes Review

Joe Goldberg is no stranger to hiding bodies. In the past ten years, this thirty-something has buried four of them, collateral damage in his quest for love. Now he’s heading west to Los Angeles, the city of second chances, determined to put his past behind him. In Tindsel town he had blended in effortlessly with the other young upstarts. He eats guac, works in a bookstore, and flirts with a journalist neighbor. But while others seem fixated on their own reflections, Joe can’t stop looking over his shoulder. The problem with hidden bodies is that they don’t always stay that way. They re-emerge, like dark thoughts, multiplying and threatening to destroy what Joe wants most: true love. And when he finds it in a darkened room in Soho House, he’s more desperate than ever to keep his secrets buried. He doesn’t want to hurt his new girlfriend—he wants to be with her forever.  But will everything go as planned ?

Let’s start this off with saying that this book is the sequel to “You” written by the same author. If you have been on this blog in the past you might know that “You” the first book in the You series is one of these books which got 5 out of 5 starts on this blog. Which isn’t something which happens often here.

Going into this book I personally had high expectations for this book since the first book in this series got 5 out of 5, the first book got the ultimate score on this blog. This book lived up to the expectations I made for it but this book got 4 out of 5.

This book is the second book in the “you” series, and it is just as mind-blowing as the first book in the series. But the thing in this book is that we have much more characters which are annoying at times but they definitely bring much to the plot itself. So it is up to you if you want to take that ride with annoying characters which should probably have been written better or presented to us in a different perspective.

What some readers might not like about this book is that this book changes the goal of it. Because it starts with Joe being in love with a character named Amy, then he what’s to kill her and at the stuff happens between him, Amy and a woman in his life. But of course there are much stuff happening in this book between the first page and last page. Another point in the topic why sine people might not like this book is because of Joe’s character. The whole deal here is that, Joe in the first book had a very unique path of development. And it was very clear that he was a twisted, unique and very possible ill man who did a lot of irredeemable and horrible things but yet he was very likable character which you had something similar with. But in this book Joe feels like someone similar to the person he was in the first book but not the exactly the same person as in the first book. Its hard to explain this, but in this book something feels very different with Joe.

This book also leaked the second person narrative which the first book had. The first book was written from Joe’s perspective and as he was telling the story to Beck. But this book leaked that. This book was written from Joe’s perspective as the first book, but this one leaked the story telling to another character in the book as the first book. Some things needed to change, it is obvious but an author cant just erase one of the main things why the first book in this series was so hyped and so well liked.

The writing itself was better in the first book than it was in this book. But in the end I personally feel like writing style was fair for the book but it could have been just as good as in the first book. In the end the writing style was good.

Every character expect of Joe in this book seems like they could have been replaced with any stereotypical Los Angeles. Or in in other words  all character expect of Joe in this book is more or less these wannabe with interpersonal issues characters. But in the end it is up to you and what you like. If you ask me, then for 80 % of the book I didn’t have any problems with most of them. But yes they are  the stereotypical Los Angeles wannabes types.

Joe is still a creepy, unsettling, and extremely unique character. But he was better described and presented to readers in the first book. But still he is the same character which you are not sure you should admit to liking. And there are a lot of parts in this book where you think to yourself “Joe, you smarter, sick, twisted bastard that’s a good trick”.

The plot itself might be annoying or boring for some people. Because the whole plot is more or less like “I’m doing this, I’m going after that person. Oh wait. I’m gonna go for this instead”. But I think that most of people who loved the first book in this series will find the plot of this book also interesting.

Ending itself was too early. It almost seems like the author wanted to just be done with this book together with leaving us on a huge cliffhanger.

The first book was very hard to put down but this one was hard to put down at most parts. I personally feel like the author should have put more work into this book and make it at least as good as the first book.

A treat to us was to see how much Joe have changed from the first book. We can se a huge and clear character development in Joe, he was super interesting, charming and likeable. But there were much more to him in the first book.

This book gets 4 / 5

“Rich dad, Poor dad” by Robert Kiyosaki Review

Rich Dad Poor Dad is Robert’s story of growing up with two dads — his real father and the father of his best friend, his “rich dad” — and the ways in which both men shaped his thoughts about money and investing. The book explodes the myth that you need to earn a high income to be rich and explains the difference between working for money and having your money work for you

This is a business book, which more or less will give you an idea about how to get a better finical control over your life. This book may motivate you, but actually learn more about economy and how it works.

There are some parts of this book where some people may think that Robert Kiyosaki is trashing highly educated people and the working class. But this isn’t the goal with this book, this book is written for people who wants to learn something but if you have negative attitude against this book or against learning something new possible then probably you misunderstand this book and think that the author is trashing highly educated people and the working class.

This book may make you excited for learning more about about your financial future, which it needs to get a point for.

This book also makes some points about how much the education system sucks now on days. Because students are learning about working for some else, and how to be the perfect lawyer, doctor, car mechanic etc. But the truth is that not ever student will be a lawyer, doctor or car mechanic.

However the investing advices in this book are pretty poor, because it the author makes it seem like investing in real estate and stocks like a very easy thing, but I can tell you (as someone who is for the moment learning about investing) that it is much more into investing than this book shows.

But this book isn’t only about money, it is also about how we are taught to think; how we are programmed by schools, family, and friends to look at the rich as greedy no good bloodsuckers and opportunities as risks.

This book makes us think about why we actually buy more clothes, jewelry etc than we actually need. But it also makes us think that the best way to actually make some cash is when we pay ourselves first.

If you read this book close enough, you will notice that the best thing we can do is not giving up on our dreams and just find other ideas on how to achieve our goals.

The writing style is very simple, the whole book is about a very complicated topic but this book is written in a such way that everyone will understand almost everything.

Many people will find this book hard to get into or something similar because you need to have some kind of motivation to read this book no matter if the motivation is about getting rich or simple just to learn something.

This book have a lot of negative opinions but not think about them if you want to read this book, because every big idea or a popular person have these. Elon Musk have them, Jeff Bezos have them, Eminem have them, Kanye West have them, Barack Obama have them etc. I would give the advice to just read this book and make up your own mind.

I give this book 5 / 5

“Mockingjay” by Suzanne Collins Book Review

The final book in the ground-breaking HUNGER GAMES trilogy, this new foiled edition of MOCKINGJAY is available for a limited period of time. Against all odds, Katniss Everdeen has survived the Hunger Games twice. But now that she’s made it out of the bloody arena alive, she’s still not safe. The Capitol is angry. The Capitol wants revenge. Who do they think should pay for the unrest? Katniss. And what’s worse, President Snow has made it clear that no one else is safe either. Not Katniss’s family, not her friends, not the people of District 12

This is the third book in the “Hunger games” trilogy. And by far it is the second best.

This book is good at pointing out wise things about propaganda, grief, war, trauma and power of healing. But of course it is a fictional book so these things are good enough for a fictional story which in the end doesn’t mean anything.

It is a YA book, and I know that not everyone is the biggest fan of these kind of books. So keep that in mind.

The characters, are almost the same persons as they were in the first book. So the character growth is very poor in this book. There are some annoying characters, and almost all characters take very stupid decisions. The only character in this book who is reasonable and thinks logically is Gale and the rest of the characters have lost their brains somewhere. The descriptions of the characters isn’t better.

This book is a good example that the author put quantity over quality. This book would be so much better if it had less characters and if these characters who were in this book would have more depth.

The writing style in this book is more or less decent and nothing to really be hyped with. Writing style is on the level with something a high school student would write.

There is a huge drag in the middle of this book, which really brings this book down. And it feels like the author tries to drag out this book for so long as it is possible.

The ending wasn’t satisfying or at least it wasn’t for me. The ending we got wasn’t something good. It was for the most part disappointing and boring.

Plot holes are very relevant in this book. Probably the most important thing in this book wasn’t shown to us, I’m talking about the trail of Katniss. We only got shown the days before and after the trail.

Katniss in this book, felt like she forgot everything she been through in the past 2 books. And in this book she turned into a very boring and annoying character.

The PTSD in this book was so poorly done, it basically felt like someone was just sad after failing an exam.

However I need to say that this book was probably the best book of the whole trilogy.

I give this book 3 / 5

“The Turn Of The Key” by Ruth Ware Book Review

When she stumbles across the ad, she’s looking for something else completely. But it seems like too good an opportunity to miss—a live-in nannying post, with a staggeringly generous salary. And when Rowan Caine arrives at Heatherbrae House, she is smitten—by the luxurious “smart” home fitted out with all modern conveniences, by the beautiful Scottish Highlands, and by this picture-perfect family. Writing to her lawyer from prison, she struggles to explain the unravelling events that led to her incarceration. It wasn’t just the constant surveillance from the cameras installed around the house, or the malfunctioning technology that woke the household with booming music, or turned the lights off at the worst possible time. It wasn’t just the girls, who turned out to be a far cry from the immaculately behaved model children she met at her interview. It wasn’t even the way she was left alone for weeks at a time, with no adults around apart from the enigmatic handyman, Jack Grant.

The whole plot that the big and isolated mansion which might be haunted together with the concept of a new nanny coming to this house to work there is brilliant. The thing that the nanny is left alone with kids without any adults around expect of the handyman for weeks at a time makes this plot and story more interesting.

There is one plot hole which I at least have noticed while reading this book. But I won’t say what the plot whole is because I don’t want to spoil the book for you. However this plot hole isn’t that big that it will destroy your experience with the book.

The whole story is dark, it involves a lot of deaths and if you get triggered by child death or death in general then maybe you shouldn’t read this book. But if you have no problem in deaths in fictional books then I guess that you won’t be disappointed in this book.

For the most part this book is creepy, atmospheric and it has a creepy mood to it. This book reminded me at the beginning of the “The Haunting of Bly Manor”. This book makes you question if there is actually something paranormal involved in it or if it is just the kids doing pranks on the new nanny. This book also makes you think if the new nanny is overreacting some stuff or if her behavior is on point.

The whole book have sort of an old timely hasted mansion to it with the modern technology which is smart house and a Tesla model X in the background.

The characters are pretty good. There feel some how realistic, there are only few of them and two of them are in this book briefly. For the most part in this book we have only 2 adult characters and 4 child characters. Characters in this book are well written and also very well described. Every character here feels like she / he have it own soul and they are for the most part different from each other.

It is important to say that the format of this book is through letters of the nanny’s writing to a lawyer from prison. In these letters she is describing what had happened since day 1 and why she is innocent. So there is no chapters in this book, the chapters in this book are in the form of a new letter being written to the lawyer. And we get to know this story through what the main character written in the letters.

The ending comes with a twist in it, which maybe will surprise you because we get to know what really happened and why the nanny decided to take the job opportunity at Heatherbrae House. I personally wasn’t the biggest fan of the twist but I had appreciated it because it was for the most part okay.

However this book doesn’t have any scary parts, but it doesn’t fail to keep you on the edge of your seat. If you are looking for a scary book then pick something different.

If you are looking for a decent and quick read, then this book is for you. I think that if you enjoyed “The Haunting of Bly Manor” series you will also enjoy this book. And of course if you are a big fan of Ruth Ware then I will also recommend this book to you.

I give this book 3 / 5

“Catching Fire” by Suzanne Collins Review

Against all odds, Katniss Everdeen has survived the Hunger Games. She and fellow District 12 tribute Peeta Mellark are miraculously still alive. Katniss should be relieved, happy even. Yet nothing is the way Katniss wishes it to be. Gale holds her at an icy distance. Peeta has turned his back on her completely. And there are whispers of a rebellion against the Capitol – a rebellion that Katniss and Peeta may have helped create. Much to her shock, Katniss has fueled an unrest that she’s afraid she cannot stop. And what scares her even more is that she’s not entirely convinced she should try. As time draws near for Katniss and Peeta to visit the districts on the Capitol’s cruel Victory Tour, the stakes are higher than ever. If they can’t prove, without a shadow of a doubt, that they are lost in their love for each other, the consequences will be horrifying. Katniss is about to be tested as never before.

The second book in “The Hunger Games” trilogy. And its getting downhill.

There were obvious that this book was heavily targeting toward the Twilight crowd. And it is also a sign that you should stop here and don’t read the last book.

The characters are even more annoying than in the first book. like Katniss was in this book a huge dick and she was selfish. Katniss and Peeta feels almost too perfect for the games. Katniss is the perfect hunter and Peeta is the perfect person to get people on his side. You know what I mean?

In the end this book lacks charm, engagement and the unique part. This book is a typical book written just for the cash.

This book would be much better if it went deeper, explaining a little more about the history of the games etc. And basically it would be better if this book was adding more to the story, not just telling what had happened after the events of the first book and nothing more than that.

The beginning was some kind of fine and similar to the first book in the trilogy but after that the book goes downhill. And it basically ends up with Katniss being an asshole at the end.

Once again the author fails to explain more about the hunger game itself which Katniss and Peeta are in. This annoy me because the author spends 80 pages talking about what costumes Katniss and Peeta got but when it comes to the game itself the author uses like 10 pages on it and after that it is all over.

The writing style and descriptions in this book are better than in the first book. But still it wasn’t on the level with Stephen King or Dan Brown. There are a lots of missing things which could improve the writing in this book. When it comes to the twist in the middle, was kind of a drag and lazy.

“The Hunger Games” by Suzanne Collins Review

In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV. Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives alone with her mother and younger sister, regards it as a death sentence when she steps forward to take her sister’s place in the Games. But Katniss has been close to dead before—and survival, for her, is second nature. Without really meaning to, she becomes a contender. But if she is to win, she will have to start making choices that weight survival against humanity and life against love.

Let me just start this review by saying that this whole series or at least the first book is way overhyped.  And I personally wouldn’t recommend this series to anyone who is over the age of 20.

It is an enjoyable read, but there are a lot of stuff missing. There were a lot of silly and cringe parts.

The characters are okay. Katinss is okay as a main character but she is also annoying at time. She annoying by acting like a 5-year-old at times. However we need to appreciate her ruthlessness and that she wanted to protect her sister. But in the end that Suzanne Collins could use some more effort to creating these characters. Because we just cant care about the characters in this book.

The writing style is okay for the most parts. I mean this wasn’t something to brag about because we can read it but no one said that we will enjoy it.  It felt sometimes that the writing was something a teen in high school had written for an boring assignment.

However the dystopian setting together with the rebellions rising up makes this whole franchise more interesting.

I give this book 2 / 5

“Misery” By Stephen King Review

93Paul Sheldon. He’s a bestselling novelist who has finally met his biggest fan. Her name is Annie Wilkes and she is more than a rabid reader – she is Paul’s nurse, tending his shattered body after an automobile accident. But she is also his captor, keeping him prisoner in her isolated house.

Another classic horror novel written by Stephen King.

The story in this book is marvelous, and its defiantly interesting. The whole story is told from an author’s POV.

The writing style is of course typical Stephen King. Which more or less means that it was good. But in the end it could have been better, because there were parts in this book which could have been cut out. And the action could have happened faster, because there were chapters which felt like a huge stretch of time.

The characters here are meh. Annie was brilliant and Paul was annoying at times. Annie is sort of a Norman Bates gone completely wild. There were times when Paul makes some really dumb decisions, which felt like a 10-year-old would take smarter decisions.

The writing style is of course typical Stephen King. But, which for me personally was a huge waste of story because the whole story could have been written from Annie’s perspective and at the end we could shift to Paul’s perspective. But that’s just my opinion.

This book isn’t scary, it is rather unsettling and have some strange vibe to us that makes us think that there are a lot of strange people in the world.

I give this book 3 / 5
